In FIG. 2, a reproduced video signal from a video tape recorder 1 is inputted to a black burst signal detection circuit 3 through a video signal input terminal 6. The black burst signal detection circuit 3 detects whether or not the input video signal is a black burst, converts the result into a binary logic signal, and outputs the result to the stop position control circuit 4. The stop position control circuit 4 allows several settings to be made by the operator. The setting is the guard band (2 in Figure 3).
) and the number of consecutive frames of the black burst signal for detecting the event, and whether the leading edge of the event is the stopping position or the trailing edge of the event is the stopping position. The stop position control circuit 4 controls the video tape recorder 1 through the control signal input/output terminal 6, and has the function of stopping the tape at a designated position using the playback time code value.

Here, when the operator gives a cue up command to the stop position control circuit 4, the stop position control circuit 4 operates the video tape recorder 1 to advance the tape. The black burst signal detection circuit 3 monitors the reproduced video signal and notifies the stop position control circuit 4 that the tape has passed the front end of event 2 (the position shown in FIG. 3b). The stop position control circuit 4 obtains the time code value at this moment from the video tape recorder 1 through the control signal input/output terminal 6 and stores it. Next, video tape recorder 1
and rewind the tape until the tape obtains a time code value indicating the leading edge of event 2 (position in Figure 3b).
