Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate in adequate dispersion of spacers and uniform gap control by spraying the spacers after the application of oriented films and before the baking stage thereof. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 are formed on a pair of transparent substrates (glass or plastic) 1 and the liquid crystal oriented films 3 are formed thereon. The spacers 5 are then sprayed on the oriented film 3 of the one substrate 1. The baking and drying of the two substrates 1 are executed after the spacer spraying process and a sealing agent 4 is applied on the substrate 1 without sprayed with the spacers. The two substrates 1 are thereafter disposed to face each other and are stuck to each other to form an empty cell. A liquid crystal 6 is injected into this empty cell and the cell is sealed. The spacers 5 are brought into tight contact with the oriented films 3 by the solvent of the oriented films 3 when the spacers 5 are sprayed right after the application of the oriented films 3 in such a manner. There is no movement of the spacers 5 even during the subsequent production process and after the completion of the product. The uniform gap control is thus executed.

First, a transparent electrode 2 is formed on a pair of transparent substrates (glass or plastic) 1 (step a), a liquid crystal alignment film 3 is formed thereon (step b>), and baked (step C).Next, The encapsulant 4 is printed on one side (step d), and the spacer 5 is sprayed on the other side (step e).After this, both are placed facing each other and bonded together to form an empty cell (step f). Liquid crystal 6 is injected into this empty cell and sealed (step q).

However, in such a manufacturing method, since the spacers 5 are dispersed after the alignment film 3 is fired, the surface of the alignment film 3 has no adhesive property, and the spacers 5 easily move or separate from the surface of the alignment film. , the dispersion state and density of the spacers 5 may become significantly non-uniform.

In the present invention, a transparent electrode is formed on a pair of transparent substrates, an alignment film is applied thereto, the inner substrates are placed facing each other, and the inner substrates are bonded together using a sealant while controlling the gap using a spacer to create an empty cell. A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal cell in which liquid crystal is injected into the cell and sealed, is characterized by spraying spacers after applying an alignment film and before a firing process.

When the spacers 5 are sprayed immediately after the application of the alignment film 3, the spacers 5 become aligned with the orientation WA3 due to the solvent of the orientation WA3.
3, the spacer 5 does not move during the subsequent manufacturing process and after finishing the product, and the gap is uniformly controlled.
