Abstract

PURPOSE:To hardly generate a spacing between a medium and a magnetic gap and to obtain a stable sliding state by tightening sliders provided with grooves in leg parts by sealing members, thereby curving the sliding contact surfaces to a projecting shape. CONSTITUTION:The groove parts 15 having a prescribed depth, width and number are formed in the leg parts of a pair of the sliders 13, 14 which crimp both side faces of a core chip 11 formed with a magnetic gap (g), by which the strength of the sliders 13, 14 is degraded. The leg parts of the sliders are tightened in the traveling direction of a medium by the spring claws 16a of shielding materials 16, by which the projecting curved surfaces of about several Angstrom are formed on the surfaces for sliding contact with the medium. As a result, the spacing is hardly generated between the recording medium and the magnetic gap (g) and the sliding state is stabilized, by which the recording and reproducing are stably executed. The contact of the edge parts of the curved surfaces with the recording medium is substantially prevented and the flawing of the medium is prevented.

Traditionally, magnetic heads used in FDD devices have a pair of cores la and lb made of ferromagnetic material such as ferrite, and a metal magnetic material such as sendust on the joint surface, as shown in Figures 5 to 7. After depositing a film (not shown), they are joined together via a non-magnetic film of 5in2 or the like serving as a gap spacer to form a magnetic gap g on the top end surface of the core la.

An inverted-shaped slider 3.4 made of a non-magnetic material such as ceramic is attached to both sides of the core chip 2, which is integrally bonded with the core chip 1b. After polishing to the desired gap depth, the slider edge part is polished using a lapping machine, etc. Polishing is performed on the R surface P.
1. P2 is formed.

The top end surface of the core chip 2 and the top end surfaces of the sliders 3 and 4 are on the same plane, forming a flat medium sliding contact surface 6. Air vent grooves 7 are formed in the medium sliding contact surface 6 along the running direction of the magnetic recording medium, and these air vent grooves 7 stabilize the running state of the medium with respect to the magnetic gap g of the core chip 2.

Incidentally, in the magnetic head 1 described above, the medium sliding contact surface 6 formed by the top end surface of the core chip 2 and the top surface of each slider 3, 4 is smooth and flat. Moreover, since the magnetic gap g is located approximately at the center of the medium sliding contact surface 6, the recording medium slides into sliding contact with the sliding contact surface 6, indicating the arrow A.
When sliding in the sliding direction, spacing tends to occur between the recording medium and the magnetic gap g (therefore, there was a problem that stable recording and reproduction could not be performed).

Moreover, when the above-mentioned spacing occurs, the magnetic head 1 fixed to the gimbal spring tilts along the sliding direction A, causing the edge portion P1 . Although P2 had a slight curvature, it easily came into contact with the recording medium and scratched the surface of the medium.

The present invention comprises a core chip with a magnetic gap formed on the top surface and a pair of sliders sandwiching both sides of the core chip, and each leg of the pair of sliders has a magnetic gap along a direction perpendicular to the sliding direction. Grooves with a predetermined depth, width, and number are provided to reduce the strength of the slider in the sliding direction, and a structure is provided in which the slider is tightened by a shield material that covers the legs of the slider, thereby reducing the sliding contact of the slider. It is characterized in that the surface is curved into a convex curve in the medium running direction.

In manufacturing the above magnetic head, first, as shown in FIG.
Concave grooves 15 of a predetermined depth, width, and number are provided in each leg of the pair of sliders 13 and 14 in a direction perpendicular to the medium running direction in advance to reduce the slider strength in the medium running direction, and to reduce the strength of the slider in the medium running direction. In addition to sandwiching the surfaces, the top surfaces of the slider 13, 14 and the core chip 11 are formed into smooth flat surfaces. Thereafter, by covering the legs of the sliders 13 and 14 with shielding material 16 made of ferromagnetic metal such as permalloy whose inner surface in the medium running direction has a spring-like claw structure, the sliders 13 and 14 and the core chip 11 are The medium sliding contact surface has a convexly curved surface shape.

According to the present invention, in a magnetic head having a magnetic core sandwiched between a pair of sliders, the medium sliding contact surface is curved convexly along the sliding direction, and the magnetic gap is formed into a curved surface. By positioning it at the top of the curve, the sliding condition with the recording medium is stable, and recording and playback can be performed stably. Furthermore, the edges of the curved surface are less likely to come into contact with the recording medium, preventing scratches on the recording medium. becomes difficult to stick to.
