させ、それに応じる受光部出力を測定する方式がある。
ところで、光センサの動作チェックは、この光センサが
紙幣鑑別装置などの高倍乾性が要求される装置に用いら
れるときには、本来の紙幣鑑別に入るのに先立って必ず
おこなわれ、光センサ動作の正常、非正常が確認される
。なお、紙幣鑑別装置における光センサは、紙幣の各所
定箇所の模様部での透光率に基づいて受光部出力を変化
させ、この出力変化のパターンによって紙幣金種が鑑別

ス化とが阻害される。
この発明の課題は、従来の技術がもつ以上の問題点を解
消し、本来の検出に先立って短い待ち時間で迅速にでき
る透過式光センサの動作チェック方法を提供することに

発光部1は、駆動回路4によってオン・オフされ、液晶
板3は、制御回路6によって透光率が変化する。また、
受光部2の出力信号は、出力回路5を介して外部に出力
される。
チェック時には、既にオン状態にある発光部1はその動
作が安定状態にあり、液晶板3はその透光率の変化がほ
とんど待ち時間なくおこなわれるから、液晶板3の透光
率変化に応じた受光部2の出力回路5を介しての出力、
つまり光センサ出力は直ちに安定化される。したがって
、光センサ動作の正常、非正常の確認が待ち時間なく、
直ぐ可能になる。
ところで、第2図は本発明方法適用後の透過式光センサ
を用いた紙幣鑑別装置の要部の構成図である。第2図に
おいて、チェック時に用いた液晶板3が撤去され、発光
部1と受光部2とを結ぶ軸線を直角方向に横切るように
、その中間を紙幣9が矢印方向に搬送される。
この紙幣9の搬送過程で、所定箇所の模様部の透光率に
応じて受光部2の出力回路5を介しての出力が変化する

頼性向上や省スペース化、低コスト化を図ることができ
