In a thermal transfer printing device that prints an image by thermal transfer of ink applied to an ink sheet surface, a detecting means for dividing a printing surface into predetermined quadrants and detecting the presence or absence of a print in each quadrant individually; a memory means for storing the used quadrant of each ink; a reusable ink sheet surface is selected by comparing the quadrant with the print detected by the detection means and the unused ink quadrant of the thermally transferred ink sheet surface; 1.
