Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve overall treatment efficiencies and to minimize influence on a local environment by oxidizing and removing harmful substances and malodorous components contained in the moisture, i.e., vapor, in feed sludge having been decomposed by heat in a dryer by means of a vapor treatment apparatus without causing condensation of said moisture. CONSTITUTION:Feed sludge 1 is heated at a dryer 2 to vaporize the moisture therein, whereby the dried sludge is discharged from said dryer 2, while the moisture which is separated by heat from the sludge is sent, in the form of vapor 3, to a vapor treatment apparatus 10 by means of a blower 4, wherein, at first, harmful substances and malodorous components, etc., in the vapor are heated up to predetermined temperatures high enough to cause combustion under the action of catalyst by means of a heater 5. And at a catalytic combustion device 6, the harmful substances and malodorous components, etc., in the vapor are caused to burn and are oxidized at relatively low temperatures by the action of catalyst, whereby they are turned to carbon dioxide, water, etc., which can be vented to atmosphere. Consequently, as a whole, sludge treatment efficiencies can be improved, thereby preventing a bad influence on a local environment.

(Problem to be solved by the invention) In conventional treatment methods, in order to discharge condensed water as it is,
Since the discharge standards cannot be met, the condensed water is sent to biological treatment. This poses a problem, such as an increase in the overall load, even in the case of a sewage treatment plant where the entire treatment system includes biological treatment. In particular, this becomes a big problem when treating sludge containing a large amount of ammonia as a whole. Furthermore, when biological treatment is not available, such as in the case of industrial waste treatment, treatment of this condensed water becomes a big problem.

The sludge supplied from the pre-treatment system is heated in the dryer to evaporate its water content and become dried sludge, which is discharged from the dryer. On the other hand, the water that has been heated and separated from the sludge is sent to the evaporative steam treatment device by a blower while remaining in the form of evaporated steam. In the evaporative steam treatment device, first, a heater heats the evaporated steam to a predetermined temperature at which harmful substances, odor components, etc., can be combusted by the action of a catalyst. and,
In a catalytic combustor, the action of a catalyst combusts and oxidizes harmful substances and odor components in evaporated steam at relatively low temperatures, converting them into carbon dioxide and water, which can be released into the atmosphere.

As a result, there is no need to return the water separated from the supplied sludge by the action of the dryer to water as condensed water for treatment, and there is no need to send the water to biological treatment as condensed water. Sludge treatment efficiency can be increased. Furthermore, there is no need to worry about the presence of odor components in the non-condensable gas, which may adversely affect the local environment.
