Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a medium body by detecting the variation of frictions between a magnetic head and magnetic recording medium and sending a warning when the percentage of the variation factor of the friction variation exceeds a preset slice level. CONSTITUTION:The informations of the number of rotations of a medium 1 of the floating start and stop times of a read write head 4, the maximum output value of a sensor 5 and the rotation number at that time, etc., are recorded at any time on each contact start stop (CSS) by monitoring the behavior of the head 4 in response to the rotation and stoppage of the medium 1 of the CSS time with its synchronizing with the rotation number of the medium 1 by the sensor 5 of piezo-electricity, etc., mounted on the read write head 4 and the transition of the respective variation rates from the initial value is monitored. At the head seek time and float stopping time, also, the transition of the averaged outputs is monitored, a slice level is set by the respective items and at the time when the variation rate exceeds the slice level an alarm is generated. Consequently prior to the medium being damaged and the recorded information being destroyed the symptom thereof is grasped and the damage of the medium is prevented.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to a method for detecting wear of a recording medium in a magnetic disk device. [Prior Art] As described in Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 58-102363, a conventional device detects an abnormal impact or pressure using a piezoelectric element mounted on a head, converts it into electricity (d), and then outputs an abnormality to the outside. By generating a signal indicating , it was possible to identify the disk back that caused a head crash. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] The above-mentioned conventional technology has a problem in that it is insufficient in protecting information recorded on a medium and can only be applied to detecting a medium that has already crashed.

In order to achieve the above objective, a sensor such as a viezo sensor is mounted on the read/write head of the device, and the behavior of the head is constantly monitored. On the other hand, the movement of the head on the medium is divided into three patterns: during CSS (contact start/stop), during seek, and when stopped in a flying state. The focus during CSS is the transition of the rotational speed when the head starts rising and falling, and the MAX value of the output and the transition of the rotational speed when the MAX value is recorded. Pay attention to the changes in average output when seeking and when stopping while floating.

Using a piezo sensor mounted on the read/write head. Rotation of media during CSS. The behavior of the head in response to the stop is monitored in synchronization with the rotation speed of the medium, and information such as the rotation speed of the recording medium when the head starts floating and stops, the maximum output value of the sensor, and the rotation speed at that time can be obtained. Record each CSS at any time, monitor the changes in the rate of change from their initial values, and monitor the changes in the average output during head seek and suspension of ascent, set the slice level for each item, and monitor the changes. Danger can be predicted by generating an alarm when the rate exceeds the slice level.

The construction drawing is a configuration diagram of the present invention. In FIG. 1, an output from a sensor 5 mounted on a read/write head 4 that reads/writes data recorded on a magnetic recording medium 1 passes through a multiplier 6 and is input to an information processing device 8. A sensor 3 detects the rotation speed of the motor 2. Information on the counter 10 that counts the number of CSS, and also the cumulative operating time meter 7
This information is also input to the information processing device 8, and the processed values are output as necessary. FIGS. 2 and 3 are diagrams showing information obtained during CSS. The sensor 5 captures the behavior of the magnetic recording medium 1 and read/write head 4 when the motor 2 starts and stops, and detects the change in sensor output peak value, the change in the rotational speed at the peak value, and the rotational speed at the start of floating and stop positions. The transition is recorded in correspondence with the number of CSSs and the operating time. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing information obtained when the head seeks and when the levitation is stopped. This information is also recorded in association with the operating time and the average value of the sensor output.

If any of these values exceeds a preset slice level, the information processing device 8 issues a warning. [Effects of the Invention] According to the present invention, since the degree of media wear can be grasped in advance, This can prevent situations in which data is destroyed and it becomes difficult to restore information.
