For example, a press-molded boat-shaped cover glass is mainly used as a cover glass for a fluorescent display tube, but as the size of the display tube increases, the boat-shaped cover glass becomes relatively thick. Since a glass plate is required, there are problems such as making press processing difficult and reducing the viewing angle.

As a cover glass that solves these problems, a cover glass that is composed of a glass plate and a spacer bonded to the periphery of the glass plate has been proposed. Conventionally, when manufacturing this type of cover glass, as shown in FIG. The end surfaces of the glass members 1a to 1e are butted against each other and bonded with frit glass 6 to form a spacer 2 having the shape shown in the figure. A frit glass 6a is applied to the bottom surface of each of the glass members 1a to 1e forming the spacer 2 and a predetermined surface of the windshield, and then the spacer 2 is bonded to the windshield 3 by the frit glass 6a. Thereafter, the exhaust pipe 5 is attached to the spacer 2 by inserting one end of the exhaust pipe 5 into the gap 4 between the glass members 1a and 1b and gluing it with frit glass (not shown). ing.

However, in such conventional methods, a glass plate of a predetermined shape is cut into strips and the glass members are individually assembled using a jig, which increases the number of work steps and impairs work efficiency. In addition, if the processing precision when cutting into strips is poor, gaps may be created at the bonding surface due to irregularities in the dimensions and angles of the strips, which may cause leakage. Furthermore, it is extremely difficult to accurately cut into strips, and post-processing such as polishing is required.

The present invention relates to a state in which a plurality of glass plates of a predetermined shape are combined into a cylindrical shape, and one end surface of a pair of glass plates forming one surface of the glass plates is separated from each other to provide a gap between which an exhaust pipe is to be fixed. A cylindrical container having a gap for fixing the exhaust pipe is formed by butting and gluing all other end faces, or a plurality of a step of attaching each exhaust pipe; a step of cutting the cylindrical container into rings to create a spacer member; and a step of applying fritted glass to each surface to be bonded of both the spacer member and the flat glass plate. The method of manufacturing a cover glass is characterized by the step of bonding the spacer member and the flat glass plate with the frit glass.

With one end face of the pair of glass plates 11a, 11b separated and a gap provided between them, the other end face of the pair of glass plates 11a, 11b and the end face of each of the glass plates 11c to 11e are connected to each other. A cylindrical container 13 is formed by butting them together and airtightly adhering them with a frit glass 20. Next, one end of the plurality of exhaust pipes 12 is inserted into the gap provided between the pair of glass plates 11a and 11b along the longitudinal direction at equal pitches, and each exhaust pipe 12 is inserted into the frit glass 20a. By airtightly adhering them, a cylindrical container 13 having a plurality of exhaust pipes 12 attached thereto is formed, as shown in FIG.

As described above, in the manufacturing method according to the present invention, a glass plate having a predetermined shape is cut into a predetermined size, and the glass plates 11a to 11e are made of frit glass to form the cylindrical container 13. Since the spacer member 15 including one exhaust pipe 12 is created by arranging and assembling the exhaust pipes 12 in the cylindrical container 13 and cutting the cylindrical container 13 into rings, the spacer member 15 including one exhaust pipe 12 is manufactured using the conventional method. This eliminates the need for individual assembly, greatly reducing the number of man-hours required. Furthermore, by cutting the cylindrical container 13 with a diamond cutter or the like to create the spacer member 15, there are advantages such as there is no irregularity in the dimensions of the glass strips as in the past, and the adhesive surface is flattened. have

In addition, although the above-mentioned embodiment shows the case where a plurality of exhaust pipes are assembled to the cylindrical container, the present invention is not limited to this, and the exhaust pipes are assembled to the spacer member after cutting the cylindrical container. Alternatively, when the end surfaces of each glass plate forming a cylindrical container are to be airtightly bonded, it is also possible to seal them by welding or the like instead of using frit glass. Furthermore, it goes without saying that the present invention is equally applicable to any cover glass that is bonded to a glass substrate to form an airtight container, regardless of whether or not an exhaust pipe is provided.

As explained above, according to the method of the present invention,
When manufacturing a cover glass, the number of work steps can be reduced and the sealing surface can be flattened, which has excellent effects such as lower manufacturing costs and improved reliability of the cover glass.
