(Technical field) The present invention relates to a continuous casting method for Al (aluminum)-Li (lithium) alloy ingots, and particularly relates to an active Al-
The present invention relates to a method for continuously and safely casting high-quality ingots of Li-based alloys. (Prior art and its problems) Conventionally, a number of methods called continuous casting method (including semi-continuous casting method; hereinafter the same) have been used to continuously produce ingots of metals such as Al-based alloys. proposals have been made. A typical example is U.S. Patent No.
As shown in the specification of No. 2983972, the outlet side opening of the casting hole in the mold is closed with a bottom stand that can be raised and lowered, and while a predetermined amount of molten metal is supplied into the casting hole, sequentially, By lowering the base, the inner wall of the mold is cooled by the coolant (usually water) flowing through the flow path inside the mold, and the coolant jetted from the bottom of the mold directly cools the inside of the mold. A predetermined ingot is obtained by solidifying the molten metal column formed in the casting hole and continuously taking out the solidified ingot from the outlet side opening of the casting hole. However, in this continuous casting method, when casting active Al-Li alloy ingots, Al
- The molten Li-based alloy reacts significantly with the water used as a coolant, and there is a risk of explosion, which is extremely dangerous, so it could not be applied as is. Therefore, in order to deal with this problem, Al-Li
As a continuous casting method for alloy ingots,
127059 discloses that an organic coolant such as ethylene glycol is used instead of water as a coolant, and JP-A-60-180656 discloses that water is used as a coolant, but it is recommended that water be used as a coolant in the casting pit. Furthermore, it is possible to constantly drain water to eliminate water accumulation, as described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 62-
Publication No. 104652 discloses that pure aluminum is added to the outer periphery of the Al-Li alloy.
It has been proposed to simultaneously cast Al and prevent cooling water from coming into direct contact with the Al-Li alloy. However, in the method disclosed in JP-A No. 60-127059, high costs are unavoidable due to the use of an organic coolant.
Regarding the method disclosed in Publication No. 60-180656,
Since water is used as a coolant, the risk of explosion due to contact of molten metal with water cannot be completely eliminated, and furthermore, in the method disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 62-104652, the equipment These methods were complex and large-scale, and therefore had inherent problems, and therefore, none of them could be called effective methods.
An effective continuous casting method for Al-Li alloy ingots had not yet been discovered. In addition, in the case of such Al-Li alloys, in particular,
Due to its strong cracking susceptibility, it not only poses safety problems during casting as mentioned above, but also requires rapid cooling during the casting process by spraying a large amount of coolant onto the ingot, as with normal metals. In some cases, casting cracks (so-called hot-
There were also problems with the quality of the ingots, such as cracking, which was likely to occur, and quality deterioration. (Solution Means) Here, the present invention was made against the background of the above-mentioned circumstances, and its purpose is to produce an Al-Li alloy ingot with excellent quality. The object of the present invention is to provide a method that allows continuous and safe casting. In order to achieve this object, the present invention is characterized by using a cylindrical mold that is cooled by the flow of a cooling fluid, and in which a predetermined Al -Al-
When continuously casting a Li-based alloy ingot, the molten alloy is cooled only through the casting hole wall surface that is in contact with the molten alloy as the mold, and the cooling fluid that is circulated is not discharged. While using a mold that has a cooling fluid passage inside that is sealed from the outside space, the bottom of the sump of the ingot to be formed is positioned upstream in the casting direction from the outlet end of the casting hole of the mold. The reason is that it was positioned and cast. (Effects of the Invention) Therefore, according to the method of the present invention, contact of the cooling fluid with the molten metal during casting can be completely avoided, even when water is used as the cooling fluid. , Al-Li alloy ingots can be cast safely without being exposed to dangers such as explosions. Furthermore, in the method of the present invention, the molten metal is cooled more slowly than in the method described above in which the cooling fluid is directly jetted, so that casting cracks can be effectively prevented. Therefore, quality can be effectively improved. Furthermore, in the mold used in the method of the present invention, there is no need to form cooling fluid jet holes, and there is no need to design the opening area, etc., so the structure of the mold can be simplified. It also has the advantage of being inexpensive to manufacture and easy to maintain. (Specific Description of the Invention) Some specific examples of such advantageous casting methods for Al-Li alloy ingots are shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, and the drawings are described below. The contents of the present invention will be further clarified with reference to the following. First, FIG. 1 shows a concrete explanatory diagram of the case where an Al--Li alloy ingot is manufactured by a vertical continuous casting method according to the method of the present invention. In this figure, 10 is a cylindrical mold, and a casting hole 12 of a predetermined shape penetrates vertically in the center of the mold.
It is equipped with Further, below the casting hole 12 in the mold 10, a bottom stand 14 is arranged so as to be movable in the vertical direction, while above the casting hole 12, an opening is provided in the casting hole 12. A nozzle 16 for supplying molten metal is provided. Then, with the lower opening (outlet side opening) of the casting hole 12 in the mold 10 closed with the bottom 14, the nozzle 16 is inserted into the casting hole 12.
By supplying a predetermined Al-Li alloy molten metal 18 through the molten metal column 20, a molten metal column 20 whose side surfaces are held in a predetermined shape by the mold 10 and has a cross-sectional shape corresponding to the casting hole 12 of the mold 10 is formed. Furthermore, while cooling and solidifying the molten metal column 20 in the mold 10, the bottom table 14 is gradually moved downward as the casting progresses.
The desired Al-Li alloy ingot 22 can be obtained continuously. In the figure, 24 is a float that constitutes a molten metal level control mechanism, and by controlling the amount of molten metal 18 supplied through the nozzle 12, the molten metal level in the molten metal column 20 is maintained at a constant level. I'm starting to get it. Here, the mold 10 is formed to have a rectangular frame-like cross-sectional shape, and is provided with a flow passage 26 extending continuously in the circumferential direction inside thereof, and in a lower part thereof, the flow passage 26 is A cooling water supply port 28 for supplying cooling fluid (usually water) into the interior of the cooling water supply port 26 is also provided at the top thereof.
At least one cooling water discharge port 30 for discharging the cooling fluid from the flow passage 26 is provided in each of the flow passages 26 . The mold 10 is cooled by the cooling water flowing through the flow path 26 through the cooling water supply port and the discharge port 28 and 30, and furthermore, the mold 10
The molten metal column 20 and the ingot 2 are brought into contact with or close to the inner wall surface constituting the casting hole 12 through the
2 is cooled so that the molten metal column 20 can be solidified. That is, in such a mold 10, cooling water flowing through the mold 10 is not jetted to the ingot 22, and the molten metal column 20 is cooled by the cooling water.
This is done only through the mold 10. The mold 10 may be made of any of copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, graphite, etc., but copper is particularly preferred because of its high thermal conductivity. By the way, when casting a predetermined Al-Li alloy ingot using such a mold 10,
Since almost no cooling effect on the ingot 22 outside the casting hole 12 can be expected, the mold 1
It is necessary to complete the solidification of the molten metal column 20 within the casting hole 12. Specifically, during casting, the lowest part of the solidified sump: A is located upstream in the casting direction (upper in the figure) than the outlet side end of the casting hole 12 in the mold 10. It is necessary to set the length of the mold 10: lm. In other words, in Fig. 1, the casting operation is performed while ensuring the relationship lm>ls (ls: distance from the inlet end of the casting hole 12 to the bottom of the sump, hereinafter referred to as the sump depth). In addition, it is necessary to set the casting speed depending on the length and cross-sectional shape of the mold 10. Here, the sampling depth: ls is expressed by the following equation (1). ls=k・v・D 2 ………(1) In the above formula, k: Parameter (coefficient) (ses/cm 2 ) v: Casting speed (cm/ses) D: Ingot diameter or ingot thickness (cm ) The coefficient: k is influenced by the casting alloy and mold cooling capacity, but usually takes a value of about 1.5 to 3.5 ses/cm 2 . In other words, the length lm of the mold 10 is set according to the intended cross-sectional shape (D) of the ingot and the casting speed (v). Here, in the method of the present invention, the cross-sectional shape of the ingot to be manufactured is not limited in any way, and may be cylindrical (billet), prismatic (slab), etc.
All of these can be effectively applied, but in particular,
It can be suitably applied to the production of ingots with a cross section of about 40 to 600 mm in the case of billets and about 150 x 300 mm to 500 x 1500 mm in the case of slabs. Moreover, the casting speed (v) is the obtained ingot 22
The length (lm) of the mold 10 is set at a predetermined value, and the length (lm) of the mold 10 directly affects the quality and productivity of the casting alloy, the quality of the ingot, and the productivity. , should be set appropriately in consideration of economic efficiency and safety, and is usually preferably about 150 to 600 mm. In addition, the method of the present invention applies to the casting of all Al-Li alloys, especially Li, which is commonly used.
This is particularly effective when casting Al alloys containing 0.5 to 5% of Al. Therefore, by casting according to this method, contact of the cooling water with the active molten Al-Li alloy can be completely avoided, and the Al-Li alloy can be cast without any risk of explosion or the like. This makes it possible to safely cast Li-based alloy ingots. In addition,
Even if the bottom of the sump is located outside the casting hole 12 of the mold 10 during casting and a breakout occurs in the solidified shell of the ingot 22, the molten metal 18
This prevents the cooling water from coming into contact with the vehicle, ensuring its safety. Further, in this casting method, rapid cooling of the molten metal column 20 and the ingot 22 can be avoided, so casting cracks can be effectively prevented and an ingot 22 of good quality can be stably obtained. be. Furthermore, since the mold 10 used in this method does not require a cooling water jet hole, its structure is simple, manufacturing costs are low, and maintenance is easy. -ing In addition, casting according to such a method has the advantage that conventional casting equipment can be used as is by simply replacing the mold 10. Next, FIGS. 2 and 3 respectively show other specific explanatory diagrams in the case of manufacturing an Al-Li alloy ingot according to the method of the present invention. In these drawings, members having the same structure as those in the first specific example are designated by the same reference numerals, and detailed explanations thereof will be omitted. First, the specific example shown in FIG. 2 is an example in which the method of the present invention is applied to a so-called hot-top casting method. Specifically, a fire-resistant cylindrical heat-insulating receiving tank 32 is provided on the upper surface of the mold 10 so as to form an overhang portion that protrudes inward from the casting hole 12 of the mold 10, and A gutter 34 is connected horizontally to this heat-insulated receiving tank 32, and a predetermined Al-Li alloy molten metal 18 is fed from a holding furnace (not shown) or the like.
It is adapted to be supplied into the heat insulating receiving tank 32 from the horizontal direction. The molten alloy 18 guided horizontally through the gutter 34 forms a molten metal column of a predetermined height on the alloy ingot 22 in the heat-insulating receiving tank 32. Compared to the normal vertical continuous casting method as in the first embodiment, this method has the advantage that a high hydrostatic pressure is applied and accurate level control is not required. Therefore, using a device with such a structure, Al
- When casting a Li-based alloy ingot, the mold length (lm) > By casting while maintaining the relationship of sump depth (ls), it is possible to cast Al-Li alloy ingots of good quality with sufficient safety, and as described above. , various effects can be effectively obtained. In addition, in the specific example shown in FIG. 3, the method of the present invention is applied to a so-called horizontal continuous casting method in which the ingot 22 is taken out in a horizontal direction, unlike the method in which casting is performed in the vertical direction as in the above example. This shows an example of what is applied to. Specifically, in such an apparatus, the mold 10
is arranged so that its axis is in the horizontal direction. The mold 10 provided in the horizontal direction
A heat insulating receiving tank 32 is provided at the end portion of the inlet side,
On the upstream side of the casting hole 12 in the mold 10,
A predetermined molten metal column 20 is formed. Therefore, using a device with such a structure, Al
- When casting Li-based alloy ingots, as in the first and second examples above, good quality can be achieved by casting while maintaining the relationship of mold length (lm) > sump depth (ls). It is possible to cast an Al-Li alloy ingot of a high quality with sufficient safety, and the various effects described above can be effectively produced. It should be noted that the present invention is by no means limited to the specific methods mentioned above, and various changes, modifications, improvements, etc. can be made based on the knowledge of those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the present invention. It goes without saying that the present invention includes such embodiments as long as they do not depart from the spirit of the present invention. In addition, in order to clarify the excellent features of the present invention described above, Examples are shown below.
Furthermore, it goes without saying that there are no restrictions imposed by this embodiment. (Example) Using a casting apparatus having the structure shown in FIG. 1, Li: 2.5%, Cu: 1.2%, Mg: 0.8%,
Ingots of Al-Li alloy (AA8090) each containing Zr: 0.12% were No. 1 shown in Table 1 below.
- No. 3 were cast under various casting conditions, and the solidification sump depth: ls during each casting was measured, and the results are shown in Table 1. The mold 10 in this casting device is made of copper and has a diameter of 165 mm (cross section) x 350 mm.
(length) of the casting hole 12 was used. Therefore, the mold length in this example:
lm is 350mm.
