Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the destruction of the connection part of a bone and a stem by mounting a plurality of projecting pins to the surface of the stem inserted in and fixed to the medullary cavity of a bone at required places. CONSTITUTION:The stem S being the main body of an artificial joint J is made of a metal such as a Co-Cr alloy or titanium alloy and a plurality of projecting pins T are implanted in the surface of the stem S. The height H of the projecting part of each projecting pin T is about 1-5mm and the shape thereof has an arm shape, a truncated cone shape or a spherical shape and, in this case, one having a shape forming an intricated space D between the surface of the stem and each projecting pin is pref. By this method, each projection pin can be implanted in the arbitrary free curved surface of the stem S. In bonding and fixing the projecting pins T to the stem S, the projecting height H can be adjusted by adjusting screwing quantity, while the irregularity of the gap between the medullary cavity and the stem S can be also finely adjusted.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to an artificial joint for replacing joints such as the hip, knee, elbow, and shoulder.

One of the components of an artificial joint is a stem that is inserted into and fixed in the medullary cavity of a bone. In order to firmly fix this stem to the bone, the stem itself is made of biocompatible ceramic material, or the surface of the metal stem is coated with a bioactive substance such as hydroxyapatite. It is being

On the other hand, a method of inserting a stem made of metal such as a Co-Cr alloy or a titanium alloy into a medullary cavity filled with bone cement in advance and fixing the stem with the cement has also been adopted.

Among these methods, the latter method of fixing the stem with bone cement is still widely used because of its ease of surgical procedure and good initial fixation.

However, when fixing the stem with bone cement, the performance of the cement itself deteriorates over a long period of time, and in particular, the cement layer between the bone and the stem becomes partially thin due to uneven thickness. Cracks that occur in the area where the joint is bent propagate one after another to the surrounding area, eventually destroying the bond between the bone and the stem and causing loosening, which causes the inconvenience that the artificial joint no longer functions in the human body. There was a great possibility that this would occur.

In order to prevent the above-mentioned loosening phenomenon from occurring, a spacer is used on the stem surface to maintain a constant distance between the stem that makes up the artificial joint and the bone into which the stem is inserted, and to make the cement layer uniform. Moreover, it is characterized in that a plurality of protruding pins are attached to provide an anchoring (engaging) effect.

The protruding pin T can be attached to the stem S by screwing it onto the stem S as shown in Fig. 2, by tapered fitting as shown in Fig. 3, or by using adhesive H as shown in Fig. 4.
The protrusion pin T may be adhesively fixed to a hole made in the stem S. The height H of the protrusion of the protrusion pin T is about 1 to 5 mm, and its shape is arm-like (Fig. 2), trapezoidal (Fig. 3), and spherical (Fig. 4). In this case, it is preferable to have a shape in which a space is formed between the surface of the stem S and the protrusion.

Furthermore, when screwing the protrusion pin T onto the stem S, fitting it with a taper, or fixing it with adhesive, the height H of the protrusion can be adjusted by, for example, adjusting the screw-in amount or changing the taper angle. Can be adjusted.

The material of the protrusion pin T is preferably the same as that of the stem S, but is not limited to this and may be made of ceramic or plastic.
By forming the protrusion pin T with polymethyl methacrylate, which is the same material as the cement C used to fix the femur B to the femur B, the protrusion pin T and cement C are attached to the human body after being attached to the human body.
can be well recombined to provide an excellent bonding state. Although the above embodiments have been described with respect to an artificial hip joint, the present invention is not limited to this, and can be similarly applied to stems constituting other joints such as knees, elbows, and shoulders.

According to the present invention, a plurality of protruding pins are planted on the surface of the stem to form protrusions that serve as spacers, and by adjusting the height of these protrusions, the stem is When inserted into a cavity and cemented, the thickness of the cement layer can be made uniform, thus relieving the local stress concentration on the cement and avoiding destruction of the cement layer, which allows the loose can be prevented.

Furthermore, a great anchoring effect is obtained by the cement penetrating into the intrusive space formed by the projection pin. In this way, it has been possible to create an artificial joint with a stem that can be more firmly fixed with cement, which will greatly contribute to improving human welfare.
