Conventionally, as an example of a mechanical seal, a fixed-side sliding ring is supported on the housing side of various rotating equipment, and a rotating-side sliding ring is supported on the rotating shaft side inserted into the shaft hole of the housing. It is widely known that sliding rings are brought into sliding contact with each other to seal the fluid to be sealed. In particular, recently, the sliding materials used in such mechanical seals have been developed to have heat resistance, corrosion resistance, lubricity, and wear resistance. Products using carbon base materials with excellent properties have been put into practical use. In this case, the mating sliding material is often made of cemented carbide or fine ceramic, which have higher hardness.

Mechanical seals using the above-mentioned sliding materials can exhibit excellent durable sealing performance due to the above-mentioned characteristics of the carbon base material. If this occurs, leakage will occur, and this initial leakage phenomenon will continue until the sliding surfaces become accustomed to each other due to wear, and there is a problem in that it takes a considerable amount of time for the leakage to completely subside.

〔考案の目的〕[Purpose of invention]

This idea was made under the above circumstances.
The purpose is to provide a sliding material that actively promotes the wear of the sliding surface during the initial stage of operation until the two sliding materials become familiar, thereby preventing leakage at an early stage. It's about doing.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the sliding material of the present invention has a structure in which the surface layer of the sliding surface of the sliding material made of a carbon base material is impregnated with a wear accelerator made of a resin material mixed with abrasive grains. And so.

That is, in the initial stage of operation, the abrasive grains in the wear accelerator impregnated on the surface layer of the sliding surface are exposed and separated due to sliding with the mating material, and the abrasive action of the abrasive particles causes wear on the sliding surface. Therefore, even if there is uneven contact or surface distortion with respect to the sliding surface of the mating sliding material, the sliding surface can be quickly adapted.

A sliding member 1 used as a sliding ring of a mechanical seal is molded entirely with a base material 2 made of a sintered body of carbon material, and has a base material 2 at one end in the axial direction.
An annular sliding protrusion 3 whose tip end surface is a sliding surface 4 is integrally formed, and a wear accelerating portion 5 impregnated with a wear accelerating agent from the surface side is formed on the surface layer of the sliding surface 4. ing.

It is harder than the carbon base material 2, and is used to prevent the sliding material of the other party formed from cemented carbide or fine ceramic from being worn or damaged. It is selected from those that have the same hardness as the moving material or are softer. This wear accelerator with a particle size of several μm is mixed into a heated and melted resin (phenol, furan, etc.) and applied to the sliding surface 4 of the sliding material 1, and the wear accelerator is mixed with the resin. The base material 2 is impregnated with the resin and the resin is allowed to harden. This manufacturing method has the advantage that the wear accelerator can be impregnated only at desired locations.

When the sliding material 1 having the above structure is brought into sliding contact with the other sliding material, the relatively soft sliding surface 3 of the sliding material 1 gradually wears out, and as a result, the surface layer The wear accelerator impregnated with the material appears and becomes interposed independently for each grain between the sliding surfaces of both sliding materials.
The abrasion of the surface layer is accelerated by the grinding action, and the sliding surfaces of both sliding rings become compatible, so that even if there is surface distortion on the sliding surfaces, this can be quickly eliminated. In addition, since the sliding material 1 is impregnated with a wear accelerator only in the surface layer of the sliding surface 3 to form the wear accelerating part 5, the abrasion of the abrasion accelerating part 5 is completed (by this time, the sliding surface is familiar enough)
At the same time, the rate of progress of wear decreases rapidly, and the inherent low abrasion properties of the carbon base material 2 are exhibited, so there is no need to worry about the product life of the sliding material 1.
At a practical level, it can be seen that it has a long life comparable to that of conventional products.

As explained above, in the sliding material of the present invention, the initial wear of the sliding surface of the carbon base material is accelerated by the grinding action of the abrasive grains in the wear accelerator impregnated into the surface layer of the sliding surface of the carbon base material. As a result, even if there is surface distortion on the sliding surface at the initial stage of operation, it can be quickly absorbed, making it possible to prevent leakage at an early stage, and demonstrating the excellent properties of the carbon base material. The practical effects of the present invention are extremely large, as it has the characteristics of providing a product that fully demonstrates the following.
