Abstract

PURPOSE:To designate a disk drive to start a system by providing a mechanism which recognizes the disk drive capable of starting, a mechanism which receives the disk drive designating indication, and a mechanism which starts the system with this instruction. CONSTITUTION:When the power source of an information processor 101 having the system start driving designating system is turned on, connected disk drives are recognized by a disk drive capable of starting recognizing mechanism 102, and connected floppy disk drives and hard disks are displayed on a display device 201, and a disk drive designation recognizing mechanism 103 waits for key input. When the start is required with a floppy disk by an operator, the floppy disk of the system is inserted to a floppy disk drive and an input device 301 is used to select the floppy disk on a screen. A system starting mechanism 104 starts the system by the disk drive. If the system is stored on the floppy disk, the control is returned to the mechanism 102.
