Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a high density by using a substance having a specific contact angle with an ink for the surfaces of pressure generating members composing gaps between the pressure generating members. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle forming substrate 11 is provided with a plurality of nozzles 12. The respective nozzles 12 are opposed to pressure generating members 15 made of laminate materials of piezoelectric elements 13 and metallic plates 14, which are dipped in an ink 16. Furthermore, for pressure generating member surfaces 18 forming gaps 17 between the pressure generating members 15 a substance having a 90 deg. or more of contact angle with the ink, i.e. no wetting properties to the ink, is used. With a voltage application to the piezoelectric elements 13, the pressure generating members 15 are deformed toward the nozzles 12. This deformation enhances the pressure of the ink existing in a gap 19 between the pressure generating members 15 and the nozzle forming substrate 11, thereby causing an ink drip to discharge from the nozzle 12. At this time, because the pressure generating member surfaces 18 forming the gaps 17 between the pressure generating members 15 are never wet with the ink 16, a crosstalk between the pressure generating members 15 caused by the viscosity of the ink existing in the gaps 17 can be inhibited to a large extent.

It includes a nozzle forming substrate having a plurality of nozzles, and a pressure generating member disposed facing each of the nozzles and immersed in ink.The pressure generating member is deformed by applying a voltage, and the pressure generating member is deformed in the gap between the nozzle forming substrate and the nozzle forming substrate. An on-demand inkjet head that increases the pressure of existing ink to eject ink droplets from a nozzle is disclosed, for example, in Japanese Patent Publication No. 60-8953. Due to the vertical displacement and the short ink flow path of the nozzle, it has excellent ink droplet ejection efficiency and ejection stability, and even if air bubbles or dust get mixed into the ink, it will work normally without being affected by it. Furthermore, because the pressure generating member has a cantilevered or double-sided beam structure, the electromechanical conversion efficiency is high and the required displacement of the pressure generating member can be achieved with a low voltage. have

FIGS. 2(a) and 2(b) are head sectional views for explaining the structure of the inkjet head 9 and the principle of ejecting ink droplets in the present invention. A plurality of nozzles 12 are provided on the nozzle forming substrate 11, and a pressure generating member 15 made of a laminated material of a piezoelectric element 13 and a metal plate 14 is disposed facing each other and is immersed in the ink 16. Furthermore, the pressure generating member surface 18 forming the gap 17 between the pressure generating members 15 is coated with a substance having a contact angle of 90 degrees or more with the ink, that is, the ink. 16, a non-wettable substance is used (Fig. 2(b)

3 contracts, and the pressure generating member 15 deforms in the direction of the nozzle 12 due to the bimetallic effect formed with the metal plate 14. This deformation increases the pressure of the ink existing in the gap 19 between the pressure generating member 15 and the nozzle forming substrate 11, and ink droplets (not shown) are ejected from the nozzle 12.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the surface of the pressure generating member forming the gap between the pressure generating members is a material having a contact angle with the ink of 90 degrees or more, the area is not wetted by the ink. Crosstalk between the pressure generating members caused by the viscosity of the ink existing in the 1-inch gap between the pressure generating members can be greatly suppressed, making it possible to use a narrow gap between the pressure generating members, which was previously impossible. It becomes possible to provide a high-density inkjet head. Further, according to the present invention, the energy loss consumed due to the viscosity of the ink existing in the gap between the pressure generating members is reduced, contributing to a reduction in power consumption, and the gap between the pressure generating member and the nozzle forming substrate is reduced. The dimensional margin is widened, which is advantageous in manufacturing.
