Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent transmission loss from occurring by providing a ferrule including an optical fiber whose tip is inclined and protrudes in its center. CONSTITUTION:An inclined surface 1 is formed at the tip part of the ferrule 3 and the optical fiber 4 is fixed in the center of the surface to protrude from the surface 1. The ferrule is provided with a key groove 2 for positioning so that the tip surfaces of the optical fibers 4 may come into contact with each other and preventing rotation. A key 9 which engages with the groove 2 of the ferrule 3 is provided at the right and left opening parts of a cylindrical adapter housing 7. In the case of connecting a pair of ferrules, the respective inclined surfaces are arranged and fixed to that the optical fibers may be butted together. The ferrule 3 is pressed toward the tip by a spring 5. Since the ferrule including the optical fiber whose tip is inclined and protrudes in the center is provided, it is effective to prevent the transmission loss from occurring.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to optical communications, and particularly to an optical connector for connecting optical fibers.

Conventionally, this type of optical connector has a ferrule with an obliquely polished end surface (for example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 59-38707), or one with a convex spherical surface (for example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 62-1).
No. 06419).

When the above-mentioned conventional optical connector includes a ferrule whose tip surface is obliquely polished (hereinafter referred to as an obliquely polished connector),
There is a disadvantage that a loss due to Fresnel reflection occurs about 0.3 dB, and - When the force tip includes a ferrule with a convex spherical surface (hereinafter referred to as a convex spherical polished connector), foreign matter such as dust may adhere to the ferrule tip. There is a drawback that when this happens, the original effect of reducing reflection loss tends to be lost.

Particularly in the latter case, there is a serious drawback that the PC coupling is damaged and reflection occurs, which causes the reflected light to return to the light source such as a laser, which tends to cause problems such as unstable light emission.

An inclined surface l is formed at the tip of the ferrule 3,
Further, an optical fiber 4 is fixed at the center of the surface and protrudes from the inclined surface 1 by 17,100 to 10 microns. Furthermore, a keyway 2 is provided for positioning the optical fiber tip surfaces so that they come into contact with each other and for preventing rotation. The tip end surface of the optical fiber 4 is obliquely polished so as to be parallel to the ferrule inclined surface l. In FIG. 1, an embodiment of the present invention incorporating the ferrule 3 shown in FIG.
A key 9 that fits into the key groove 2 is provided. Thereby, when connecting a pair of ferrules, the respective inclined surfaces are arranged and fixed so that the optical fibers butt each other. The spring 5 presses the rule 3 toward the tip. A knob 6 is arranged at the negative end of the spring, and the knob 6 is fitted into an outer peripheral screw of the adapter housing 7.

As described above, since the present invention has a ferrule that includes a protruding optical fiber with an inclined tip in the center, there is an effect that no reflection loss occurs. In particular, even if dust etc. adheres to the ferrule tips and the ferrule tip surfaces no longer come into close contact with each other, the reflected light returns to the light source and makes the laser etc. unstable, as in conventional optical connectors that include ferrules with polished convex surfaces This has the effect of not causing any problems such as causing
