Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent lubricating oil, dust, and the like from adhering to the light emitting element or the light detecting element of an optical sensor by a method wherein cases enclosing the light emitting element and the light detecting element is composed of a light transmissive material. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 2 and a light detecting element 3 are built in cases 1 which are formed of a transparent material and provided with no light emitting window and no light detecting window, and the cases 1 are tightly sealed up with sealing agent 6. By this setup, a pair of the light emitting element 2 and the light detecting element 3 are held separate from each other by a certain distance and lubricating oil, dust, or the like can be prevented from attaching to the light emitting element 2 an the light detecting element 3, so that the failures of an optical sensor can be decreased.

Optical sensors generally consist of a pair of light-emitting elements and light-receiving elements that are housed in a resin case that holds them facing each other, and are used in a wide range of applications, such as optically detecting moving pieces of paper or metal. However, depending on the mounting position of the sensor, for example, lubricating oil may adhere to and enter the mechanism, or
There is a problem in that the detection ability of the sensor is inhibited by adhesion of dust or the like. As a conventional technique, there is an optical sensor with a dustproof cover as described in the Sharp parts catalog (model GI) LA20), but no consideration was given to preventing oil intrusion.

The present invention relates to the improvement of a case that holds the light emitting element and light receiving element of an optical sensor. Conventionally, the case of the sensor was made of opaque resin, and the light emitting element and the light receiving element were sealed inside the case. The device is an optical sensor whose case itself is made of transparent resin.

For this reason, FIG. 1 shows an example of an improved case 11 in which the case itself is made of a transparent material and has no light-emitting window or light-receiving window. With these few steps, extremely high airtightness can be achieved. Note that even if it is necessary to limit the amount of light depending on the application, the second
