Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a coat with a sharp color, excellent gloss and transparency by first forming an electrodeposited film and a color intermediate film sequentially on an object to be coated and then baking a color intermediate film. CONSTITUTION:An object to be coated, for instance, an automobile body is coated using electrodeposition technique and then a color intermediate film is formed. After this, the color intermediate film is baked, and a clear paint is applied using the so-called wet on wet technique without baking the color intermediate film for process simplification, and the paint is baked. After baking the clear coat, a finish paint with lower hiding property than a conventional super color finish coat is applied on the clear coat so that a mutual action with a lower layer becomes significant. Then this applied finish coat is baked. It is possible to obtain sharp color and high gloss and transparency due to the application of a clear paint between the color intermediate film and the finish coating.

BACKGROUND ART Conventionally, a method generally called a three-coat method has been widely used as a method for painting, for example, an automobile body. This three-coat method is based on a combination of three coatings: electrodeposition, intermediate coating, and top coating. This method does not produce a lacquer-like shine, but it can be achieved by improving the paint resin of the intermediate coating or top coating. Attempts have been made to improve the sense of well-being, but sufficient results have not yet been achieved.

On the other hand, recently, a method called "super color" has been adopted in which the intermediate coat is colored and a highly colored, low-hidden top coat is applied thereon. However, this method is only a method for producing vivid colors, and does not contribute to improving gloss or transparency.

In the coating method of the present invention, an electrodeposition coating film and a color intermediate coating film are provided in this order on the object to be coated, and after the color intermediate coating film is baked, or wet-on-wet, the color intermediate coating film is coated on top of the color intermediate coating film. Apply clear paint, bake,
Furthermore, it is characterized in that a low-hidden top coat is provided on the obtained clear coat.

First, the object to be coated, the automobile body, is electrocoated, and then a color intermediate coat is applied. Then, after the color intermediate coating film is baked, or to simplify the process, a clear paint is applied and baked without baking the color intermediate coating film, that is, in a so-called wet-on-wet manner.

The electrodeposited coating film and the color intermediate coating film may be formed in a conventional manner. For example, melamine alkyd resin, polyester resin, polyurethane resin, etc. can be used as the color intermediate coating, and commonly used pigments such as red iron, titanium oxide, carbon black, and permanent red 4R can be used as the coloring pigment. It will be done.

The clear paint used has the same composition as a conventional intermediate paint, except that it does not contain pigments. The thickness of the clear coating film is preferably about 15 to 50 mm. If the thickness of the clear coating film is less than 15 m, the effect on gloss is insufficient, and if it is greater than 50 m, coating defects such as sagging or wrinkling of the clear will occur.

When a clear coat is applied wet-on-wet over a color intermediate coat, it is preferable to use a melamine alkyd resin or a polyester resin as the clear coat in view of appropriate compatibility with the base coat and adhesion with the top coat.

After the clear paint film is baked, a top coat with lower opacity than the conventional super color top coat is applied on top of the clear paint film in order to strongly interact with the underlying paint film, and then baked.

In this way, by providing a clear coating film between the color intermediate coating film and the top coating film, it is possible to obtain not only high color but also high gloss and transparency. In general, when comparing the surface shapes of a layer that contains pigments such as an intermediate coat and a layer that does not contain pigments such as a clear coat, the clear coat has more surface irregularities than the intermediate coat. This is because it is small and smooth.

As the pigment, in addition to the above-mentioned commonly used pigments, weather-resistant, high-chroma pigments with relatively low hiding power can be used. Examples of the weather-resistant pigments used include fast scarlet, quinacridone red, green galt, titanium oxide, and carbon black. Examples of the highly colored pigments used include quinacridone red, phthalocyanine green, fast sky blue, Hansaero-3G, and phthalocyanine blue. These pigments may be used alone or in mixtures.

The pigment concentration in the top coat is preferably about 15 to 35% by weight of the pigment with high hiding power, and about 20 to 45% by weight of the pigment with low hiding power. When the pigment concentration is higher than the above range, it is difficult to improve the transparency and glossiness, while when it is lower than the above range, the desired coating color cannot be obtained.

上塗塗膜の厚さは20〜60一程度が適当である。The appropriate thickness of the top coat is about 20 to 60 mm.

In the above-described coating method, if the top coat and color intermediate coat have the same color, a transparent color can be obtained. Furthermore, by using different colors for the top coat and color intermediate coat, a color different from the original color of the top coat can be obtained.
