Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the labors and time for repairing a pipe by using an inflatable sleeve inside of the pipe. CONSTITUTION: A sleeve used for repairing a pipe comprises a sheet 14 having two longitudinal edges and a means for fixing the longitudinal ends of the sheet 14 one another for coiling the same. An outer surface of the sheet 14 is coated with a compressive material 2 such as plastic, rubber or the like. To repair the pipe by using the sleeve, the sleeve is inserted into a damaged part of the pipe, then the sleeve is pressed from the inside by an air bag or the other expansive means to inflate the sleeve, and a male end 24 and a female end 26 are engaged. Then the air bag or the like is removed from the sleeve.

British Patent No. 2,136,912 to Barry discloses a method of sealing a tube using a sleeve impregnated with a curable resin placed around an inflatable and deflated bag. The sleeve and bag are attached to a tow line and pulled into the damaged section of the tube. The bag is inflated, which causes the fiberglass laminate sleeve to expand and come into tight contact with the inner wall of the tube. After the resin hardens, the bag is deflated and moved.

The object of the present invention is to provide a coiled repair sleeve having fixing parts at the edges and covered with an elastic gasket material, the coiled repair sleeve being inserted into the sleeve and being expanded by an airbag, for example. This is accomplished by using a repair sleeve. The sleeve with the airbag inserted is moved to the location of the damage or leak, and upon reaching the location,
An air bag or other expansion means uncoils the sleeve and inflates or expands to compress the gasket material against the inner wall of the tube. Thereafter, when the airbag is deflated, the sleeve will contract to some extent due to its spring-type nature and the resiliency of the gasket material. When this contraction occurs, the male fixation part of the sleeve slides into the groove of the male fixation part, and
Forms a continuous sleeve inside the tube. After deflation, the airbag is removed from the tube structure.

As shown in FIG. 3A, the male engaging portion 24 whose outer surface is exposed from the gasket 22 corresponds to the female engaging portion whose outer surface is covered by the compressible gasket 22. As another example, the male engaging portion 24 may be covered with a gas scaler 122. The thickness of the gasket 22 is substantially the same over the entire outer surface of the sleeve 14, except that if the outer surface of the male engagement portion is covered by the gasket, the thickness of the gasket at the male engagement portion may be The thickness is preferably thinner than the thickness of the rest of the outer surface of the sleeve 14 and is designed to ensure watertightness, typically using low density polyethylene foam or foam rubber. To effect the engagement or mutual fixation of the male engagement part 24 and the female engagement part 26, a wider groove than required is used, in which case the male engagement part 24 is covered with a gasket. As shown, the female engaging portion 26 preferably has an outer lip having a length substantially corresponding to the exposed portion of the male engaging portion having an outer surface covered with a gasket. and a shorter inner or lower lip 28 . As a result of pressurization by an air bag or other inflation means, the sleeve 14 expands into a larger configuration. That is, the male engaging portion 24 passes over the edge of the lower lip 28 and slides on the inner surface of the lower lip. Thereafter, when the airbag is deflated, the sleeve 14 tends to return to its smaller shape due to its spring characteristics, so that the male engagement portion 24 of the sleeve 14 engages the female engagement portion of the sleeve, as shown in FIG. 3B. It fits into a groove formed between the inner and outer lips of the portion 26. When the contraction ends,
After the airbag is removed from the sleeve, the male and female engaging portions 24 and 26 of the sleeve are fully secured together and a continuous sleeve or tubular portion is formed inside the tube 10, as shown in FIG. 3C. Form a liner.

Referring to Figures B and 4C, the grooved ends of the female engagement portions may be welded as shown in Figure 4A, stamped as shown in Figure 4C, stamped and welded as shown in Figure 4B, or as shown in Figure 4D. It can be formed by rolling.

In the example shown in Figure 4, the edge of the female engagement part has a series of holes 25 and the male engagement part has a series of projections 27 in the form of hooks or studs. This example is particularly preferred if the two edges of the sleeve are to be fastened together. The protrusion and hole anchoring assembly locks the edges of the sleeve to hold the sleeve in a circular configuration once the elongated male engagement portion fits within the groove of the female engagement portion or the expansion force is released. When interconnected, it can be used as in the example described here. Therefore, when the airbag is inflated, the sleeve takes on a larger shape, and the male engaging portion 24 becomes the female engaging portion 26.
and then a series of projections on the hook or stud 2
7 slides into a series of holes. When the bag is retracted, the protrusion 27 hooks into the hole and remains firmly engaged in the anchoring position.

The sleeve is inserted into the end of the tube 10 at position B. A TV left camera or similar camera 13 is placed in front of the sleeve 14 to help detect damage or leakage points 20. As shown in FIGS. 8A and 9, when the sleeve 14 is placed at the damaged location 20, the airbag 12 is inflated, and as shown in FIG. 8B,
Expand the sleeve. As previously discussed, FIG. 8C shows the pipe repair in which the airbag is deflated and removed from the sleeve, and the dekeying portions of the sleeve are fully secured together, thereby forming a continuous inner sleeve within the pipe 10. The sleeve is shown. The airbag and TV left camera 3 removed from the sleeve are removed via the manhole or hatch MH2 using the cable 16 and winch 18.
