Abstract

PURPOSE:To hold the display screen of the display device invariably in an easy-to-see state even if external light varies in brightness by adjusting the brightness on the display screen of the display device automatically according to the brightness of the external light. CONSTITUTION:An optical sensor 100 detects the brightness of the external light and its detection output is amplified to a prescribed level by an amplifier 102 and inputted to an A/D converter 104. The light signal which is digitized by the A/D converter 104 is inputted to a P-ROM 106 stored with a table indicating the relation between the brightness of the light signal and the brightness on the display screen of the display device and converted logarithmically so that the brightness of the external light matches the brightness of the display screen of the display device. This light signal is inputted to a brightness control part 108 and a control signal for adjusting the brightness of the display screen of a display part 110 to brightness corresponding to the logarithmically converted light signal is outputted to the display part 110. Consequently, the brightness on the display screen is adjusted according to the brightness of the external light and the display screen is held in the easy-to-see state.

制御する機能を備えた表示装置に関する。

光の明るさに応じて調整するように構成されていなかっ
た。すなわち、表示装置の表示面の輝度は一定の輝度に
固定されているか、または表示面に直射日光があたって
いる場合、直射日光があたらない場合、夜で周囲が暗い
場合のそれぞれに対応する三段階程度に制御されるのが
通常であった。

くなり、他方外光が暗い時に見易いように表示面の輝度
を調整しておくと、外光が明るくなった時に表示面が白
くなって見えなくなるという問題があった。

力信号に基づいて表示面の輝度を制御する制御手段とを
含んで構成されることを特徴とするものである。

制御する制御手段とを含んで構成されることを特徴とす
る表示装置。
