Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a video tape recorder by providing a means to change a background color corresponding to the set day of the week when time set and reservation set is executed by using character signal generating function and to change an operation set selecting menu to the background color of that date. CONSTITUTION:When the information of timer reservation start are sent from a main body key or an operation unit 4 such as a remote controller, etc., a microcomputer 1 operates character signal generating function 2 and displays characters on a monitor 7. Simultaneously, an internal/external synchronous changeover switch 5, which is housed in the character signal generating function, is switched to an internal part. Then, the background color of the monitor 7 is changed by varying a phase angle to the color burst of the character signal generating function 2. Thus, for example, when the color of at the time of no-signal, menu display or reservation set is unified according to the day of the week, in each condition, it can be clearly informed a user what day of the week the day is or the change of the date, etc. Accordingly, the operability of the VTR can be improved.
