該一対の基板の表面に形成され少なくとも前記透
明基板の表面に形成される透明電極層をもち相対
向するように配置される一対の電極層と、前記一
対の基板間に配置され分散媒と該分散媒中に分散
される電気泳動粒子とを具備する分散系層と、を
もつ電気泳動表示素子において、 前記電気泳動粒子は、可視光線の波長と同程度
の0.2〜0.8μmの粒子径をもちかつ粒子径
の揃つた単分散粒子から成り、 前記電気泳動粒子の電気泳動現象を利用して、
前記透明電極層上に単分散粒子層を形成させ、可
視光線の干渉を利用して意匠性に優れた色感をも
つ表示が可能なことを特徴とする電気泳動表示素
子。 (2) 単分散粒子は、ポリスチレン、チタニア又
はシリカーアルミナから成る実用新案登録請求の
範囲第1項記載の電気泳動表示素子。
