Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce mortality rate, etc., of young livestock and contrive improvement in nourishing effects of the subject composition by containing skim milk powder or soybean meal as a principal ingredient and a specific amount of triglyceride of a medium-chain fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition obtained by containing >=0.5wt.% (preferably 5-25wt.%) triglyceride of a 6-10C medium-chain fatty acid in a substitute milk consisting essentially of skim milk powder or soybean meal. When the resultant composition is administered to young livestock, the composition is diluted with water or warm water, preferably 3-15 times (containing preferably 0.5-6wt.% triglyceride of the 6-10C medium-chain fatty acid).

The mechanism of how the milk replacer composition of the present invention has excellent effects is not necessarily clear, but in conventional milk replacer compositions, the main component of the milk replacer, skim milk powder, is denatured to improve the ability of the baby to digest the milk. It had a bad influence on sexuality (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 57-18
6445 Publication), the use of MCT significantly improves hydrophilicity, helps in the digestion and dispersion of skim milk powder in the digestive tract, and also directly provides energy supplementation for offspring, which in turn improves nutrition, and reduces diarrhea. It is thought that this will prevent the occurrence of cancer and reduce the mortality rate.

In any case, by incorporating MCT into a milk replacer composition or milk replacer (aqueous solution or dispersion) according to the present invention,
It is surprising that this method can prevent the occurrence of diarrhea and reduce the mortality rate of young animals, and it will greatly increase the value of milk replacer and greatly contribute to the promotion of the livestock industry.

The concentration was set to 10% in warm water of C, and forcedly dispersed using a homomixer. On the other hand, 0.25 kg was given to young piglets and larvae (6 each) separated from their mother livestock at 5 days old.
The larvae were fed 4 kg twice a day for 21 days. During the test period, the number of diarrhea cases, deaths, and weight gain were checked, and the results are shown in Table 2. From the results in Table 2, it can be seen that the milk replacer composition of the present invention has a remarkable effect on preventing the occurrence of diarrhea and reducing the mortality rate.
