A typical method for applying a patch to a surgical wound (eg, abdominal surgery) is as follows. That is, first, a primary patch such as sterile gauze is applied to the wound. Next, an absorbent patch, called a secondary patch, is placed over the primary patch and secured there. In use, body fluids penetrate the primary patch and are absorbed and retained by the secondary patch.

Traditionally, patches such as those described above have been used for many years, but conventional secondary patches have been designed to prevent liquid from completely damaging the secondary patch, especially if pressure is applied to the secondary patch during use. It was not suitable as a barrier to prevent people from passing through. Once the liquid completely penetrates the secondary patch, it creates a path for bacteria to easily penetrate the patch and reach the wound, with deleterious consequences for the patient. However, it is not sufficient to apply a liquid-impermeable barrier over the patch to prevent liquid penetration. The dressing needs to be permeable to water vapor and gases to allow the wound to breathe and promote healing, as normal liquid-impermeable barriers prevent the wound from breathing. In addition, the conventional patch cloth is
It took a long time to apply it to the affected area, which was inconvenient for hospital nurses and others.

The back sheet 16 is further coated with a water-repellent and breathable adhesive 50 over the entire surface including the edge portions 48 of the front surface 38. Suitable adhesives are acrylic-based adhesives, such as the Kendall trademark "Tenderskin" No. 1596 mentioned above. The adhesive 50 forms a water-repellent wall on the underside 20 of the pad 12, thereby minimizing the possibility of permeation of bodily fluids during use, providing a barrier against the passage of bacteria, and preventing the passage of bacteria from the affected area during use. minimize the possibility of contamination. Air passes through the adhesive and the back sheet 16, making the cloth breathable and promoting healing of the affected wound. Additionally, the adhesive 50 connects the side portion 32 of the upper sheet 14 to the side portion 4 of the back sheet 16.
4 and can be used to adhere the edges 36 of the top sheet 14 to the inside portions of the edges 48 of the back sheet. Adhesive 50 also contacts the back side of pad 12 and stabilizes the pad when it becomes wet during use. As shown, the patch has a pair of release sheets 52 attached to the edges 48 of the back sheet and its adhesive 50 so as to cover them.
When the release sheet 52 is peeled off from the edge 48 of the back sheet 16, the adhesive 50 underneath is exposed and the edge 48 of the patch can be conveniently attached to the affected area.

In the patch of the present invention, a suitable adhesive on the backing sheet 16 provides a water repellent wall and stabilizes the pad. The adhesive on the back sheet can also be used to adhere the front and back sheets to each other, and the edges of the back sheet and their adhesive are useful for attaching the patch to the affected area, and can also be used to attach the patch to the affected area. There is no need to use other fixing means.

As described above, the present invention can also be applied to various structures used in the field of disposable diapers and sanitary napkins whose basic components are at least a permeable front sheet, a back sheet, and an absorbent material between the two sheets. . Generally, in such a structure, the back sheet is
Conventionally, it has been a liquid-impermeable member such as a polyethylene film. In these structures, the present invention can be applied by using a fluid permeable back sheet coated with a water repellent breathable adhesive in place of the conventional liquid impermeable back sheet.
