Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable germination and rearing of a plant simply by laying a mat on the ground surface, by holding seeds and a water holding property imparting material between an inorganic fiber mat and a nonwoven fabric by processing of needling. CONSTITUTION:A seeded mat 1 is prepared by forming rock wool into a mat 2 with a binder and seeds 3 and bentonite 4 as a water holding property imparting material are scattered on the surface thereof. A nonwoven fabric 5 made of polypropylene is then superposed thereon and continuously subjected to processing of needling. Thereby, the seeded mat 1, holding the seeds 3 and water holding property imparting material 4 in the mat and wound in the form of a roll is produced.

Generally, in order to grow lawns in home gardens, parks, schools, etc., seeds are sown in a separate turfgrass cultivation area in advance, grown to an appropriate size, and then stripped from the ground along with the roots. A method is used in which the material is spread over the desired location.

Furthermore, in order for seeds to germinate, a turfgrass cultivation area requires topsoil suitable for plant growth, and when the turfgrass is stripped and transplanted, the topsoil is lost, and the soil that is removed from the turfgrass is lost. There is also the problem that the weight is large due to the adhesion, making it unfavorable for transportation.

Therefore, the present inventors have developed a method that allows plants such as turfgrass to be easily grown without the need for first sowing seeds of plants such as turfgrass on the ground and then covering them with soil. We have proposed a seeding mat (Japanese Patent Laid-open No. 2590-7 from 1982) that allows for easy transplantation of cultivated plants.

Although the above-mentioned problems have been solved by this seeding mat, when this seeding mat is laid on a slope, etc., the moisture in the seeding mat moves to the bottom of the seeding mat.
A new problem arose: lack of moisture in the upper seed mat.

The present inventors conducted research to solve the above problems, and found that by layering nonwoven fabric on the surface of inorganic fibers, sandwiching seeds and water-retaining materials between them, and performing needling processing, uneven moisture distribution was achieved. He realized that this could be prevented and completed the present invention.

In the present invention, a nonwoven fabric is layered on the surface of this mat and subjected to needling processing. The nonwoven fabric is made of organic synthetic fibers such as rayon, nylon, polypropylene, poval, etc., using an adhesive, heat pressure, and sewing. , conventionally known ones made by irregularly arranging or entangling them can be used. Among these, poval fiber is particularly desirable because it has poor weather resistance, decomposes in a short period of time, and does not cause problems of environmental pollution.

The thickness of the mat should be sufficient to serve as a medium for holding roots at least during the germination of plant seeds and the subsequent initial stage of plant growth, and it is not necessary to completely hold roots even after the plants have grown to a large size.

In the planting mat with the above structure, the seeds are sandwiched between the mat and the non-woven fabric and held by needling, so the seeds can be germinated by being placed on the ground and watered, and the mat can be used as a potting soil. It is possible to cultivate. At this time, the ground on which the mat is placed does not need to have good topsoil necessary for germination. When a plant needs to be transplanted after it has been grown to a certain extent, such as when growing turfgrass, this mat is removed from the ground while holding the grown plant and transplanted directly to the desired ground. Ru. Therefore, the mat also acts as a carrier during plant transportation. After the mat holding the plants is placed on the ground where the plants will be grown, as the plants grow, the roots will grow into the soil under the mat and take root, and the mat will become part of the soil. At this time, since most of the material composing the mat is rock wool made from natural rock, there is no problem of environmental pollution.

In Figures 1 and 2, a seeding mat 1 is formed by forming rock wool into a mat 2 using a binder.Seeds 3 and bentonite 4 as a water-retaining material are sown on the surface of the mat 1, and a polypropylene seed mat 1 is sown on the surface of the mat 2. By continuously needling the nonwoven fabrics 5 after stacking them, a rolled seeded mat 1 in which the seeds 3 and the water-retaining material 4 are held within the mat is manufactured.

Next, the case where the seeding mat of the present invention is used for growing turfgrass will be explained. Planting mats holding turfgrass seeds are simply laid out in a suitable growing area and watered. At this time, since the seeds and the water-retentive material are retained within the mat, the seeds will not be scattered by wind and rain, and will germinate well. After germination and growth to an appropriate size, the mats are removed from the ground and shipped as products. The purchaser places the mat on the desired ground and further grows the grass. As turfgrass grows, its roots extend from the mat into the soil beneath it and become firmly rooted in the soil, thus forming a good lawn.

According to this method, there is no need to sow the grass or cover it with soil, and after the grass has grown, it is extremely easy to peel it off the ground and ship it. Moreover, since mats are used as a medium for growing turfgrass, there is no need for topsoil suitable for turfgrass growth, and turfgrass can be grown on any type of land.In addition, there is no need to consume topsoil, and it has excellent water retention properties. Sufficient moisture will be supplied by the feed material.

At this time, due to the action of the water-retaining material in the mat, the water is not biased toward the bottom of the mat. Then, the seeds are germinated and grass is grown in that position.

The grown grass extends its roots from the mat to the slope below, firmly establishing itself and holding down the slope. In this way, by simply arranging and fixing the mats on the slope, plants can be planted on the slope to suppress the slope and make it green.

As explained above, in the present invention, seeds and water-retentive materials are held between an inorganic fiber mat and a nonwoven fabric through needling processing, so plants can germinate and grow simply by laying this mat on the ground. It is possible to grow plants, and there is no need for top soil for plant germination, which has the effect of greatly simplifying the work of growing plants. Furthermore, when transplanting a plant that has grown to a certain size, the plant can be removed from the ground along with the mat and transplanted as is, which simplifies the transplanting process and consumes the topsoil used for growing. It has the effect of not causing any problems. In addition, the water-retaining material prevents the moisture in the mat from shifting downward even when the mat is fixed on a sloping surface such as a slope, which has the effect of allowing plants to germinate and grow well.
