Abstract

PURPOSE:To image-pickup a picture desired to transmit such as a character or graphic information, etc., in a direction just as it is written, and to transmit it in the correct direction just as it is written to a cathode-ray tube of not only a transmitting side but a remote party side by switching electrically the scanning direction of a camera. CONSTITUTION:If the angle of the camera 1 is as shown by a full line in a figure, as being connected with it, a vertical switching relay 12 and a horizontal switching relay 13 are laid down by a switch driving means 14 so that the vertical and the horizontal scanning directions of the camera 1 are reversed. Accordingly, as for the pictures displayed on the cathode-ray tube 11 and the remote party side and displayed as well, 'I', 'RO', 'HA' (Japanese syllabary) which is written on scratch paper and of the correct direction reverse in all directions can be reproduced. Thus, by providing a means to switching the scanning direction of the camera in both a horizontal and a vertical directions in addition to a mechanism to change the camera angle, the character or the graphic information written on the scratch paper can be reproduced on the cathode-ray tubes of the transmitting side and the remote party side in the correct direction just as it is written on the scratch paper in addition to the picture information of mainly a sender in the past.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In recent years, telephone network communication has been widely used for not only voice but also text and image transmission since telephone lines were released. In particular, so-called videophones, which use a combination of a telephone and a display device such as a cathode ray tube to transmit the face of the person on the other end of the phone, have been attracting attention recently.

The purpose of the functions from the camera 1 to the O/A converter 4 is to perform band conversion for transmitting images over a general telephone line. That is, the image output from the camera 1 has a band of several MHz, but the band of a general telephone line is 3.4 Hz, and images cannot be transmitted as is. Therefore, in order to make this possible, the image signal is
After D conversion, the image data is stored in a memory 3 and taken out from the memory 3 at a slow time so as to be transmitted over a general telephone line 7. For example, image data is A/D
When converting, the image is 100 dots horizontally and 1 dot vertically.
Assuming that it is composed of 60 dots and the luminance component of one dot is represented by one bit, a memory capacity of 64 bits is required. The memory output becomes 8000 bits/second when one dot is taken out every 015 msec. This memory 3
When the output of is D/A converted, the maximum frequency of this output is
Since one dot takes 0.5 seconds, it becomes 1 Hz. This signal is A
The amplitude is modulated by the M modulator 5. It is possible to set the carrier frequency of the AM modulator 5 to, for example, 2 Hz, which is within the frequency band of a general telephone line, and modulate the D/A conversion output at a maximum frequency of 1 Hz. The output amplitude modulated by the AM modulator 5 is transmitted to the other party via the switching relay 8 and the telephone line 7. After transmitting the image, the switching relay 8 is moved to the telephone 6 side, and the user can talk to the other party normally. Incidentally, the vertical deflection circuit 9 and the horizontal deflection circuit 10 are drive units that cause the camera 1 to scan horizontally and vertically, respectively.

The telephone network communication device configured as above for transmitting images and sounds will be explained below with reference to FIG. 4 and FIG. 1. In the conventional technology shown in FIG. 4, the camera 1 only takes the angle indicated by the broken line in the drawing, and mainly transmits only the image of the caller located in front of the camera 1. However, in this configuration, the camera 1 By providing a mechanism that can change the angle between the broken line position and the solid line position (front direction and downward direction), it is possible to easily write notes such as letters and figures on the transmission surface 15, which was not possible before. Moreover, with the conventional technology, as shown on the cathode ray tube 11 in FIG. In this configuration, when the angle of the camera 1 in FIG. 4 is on the solid line, the switching drive means 14 moves the vertical switching relay 12 and the horizontal switching relay 13 in FIG. 1 downward. The vertical and horizontal scanning directions of camera 1 are respectively reversed. As a result, the image transmitted and displayed on the cathode ray tube 11 in FIG.

In the above embodiment, the camera body is rotated as a mechanism for changing the angle of the camera 1, but a mirror may be used in front of the camera to change the angle. Furthermore, although the horizontal switching relay 13 and the vertical relay 12 shown in FIG. 1 are switched in conjunction with each other depending on the camera angle, they may be switched manually instead of in conjunction with each other.

Effects of the Invention As described above, according to the present invention, in addition to the mechanism for changing the camera angle, a means for switching the scanning direction of the camera both horizontally and vertically is provided, thereby making it possible to easily change the angle in one direction. In addition to transmitting the image of the caller, which has been used up until now, the scanning direction switching means can also transmit text and graphic information written in memos in the correct direction on the CRTs of the caller and the other party. It has the effect of being able to reproduce.
