A video signal containing a noise component (n) shown in FIG. 3(a) is input to a noise canceller circuit (25). Then, by first passing through L P F (11), the noise components in large area and visually noticeable flat image parts, such as parts of the sky or walls, are reduced to low levels of high-frequency signals. Since the noise components are concentrated at a certain point, the noise components are removed, resulting in a signal as shown in FIG. 2(h). By subtracting the signal shown in Fig. 2 (h) output from this L P F (11) from the original video signal (a) in the subtraction circuit (12), the signal shown in Fig. 2 (i) is obtained. A difference signal component is obtained.

A noise canceller circuit consisting of a subtraction circuit and an addition circuit for both input and output signals can remove noise components remaining in the demodulated video signal and improve the S/N ratio. By providing a signal processing circuit including two series-connected delay circuits, narrow and deep peaks can be added to the transient portion of the video signal to significantly improve sharpness. Furthermore, since there is no overshoot or ringing phenomenon seen in conventional devices, the overall image quality can be significantly improved. .
