Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent miserasure and misoverwrite due to turning on a strong laser beam by irradiating a recording medium in the subject information recording and reproducing device with different power laser beams and inhibiting the laser from being turned on when recording or erasing is indicated by the device mode at the time of recording and/or reproducing and/or erasing a bit of information. CONSTITUTION:A laser driving signal 4 is supplied from a laser driving circuit 2 of the information recording and reproducing device to a laser 1, and a recording instruction signal 6 and an erasing instruction signal 7 are supplied to the circuit 2, and also the recording instruction signal 6 and the erasing instruction signal 7 are supplied to a CPU 3. By this CPU 3, the laser being turned on is discriminated at the 1st step, and the presence of the recording instruction signal 6 and the erasing instruction signal 7 is acknowledged at the 2nd and 3rd steps, and then a laser turning-on signal 5 is outputted to the circuit 2 at the 4th step. Then, when recording or erasing is indicated by the operation mode of the recording and reproducing device, the laser 1 is inhibited from being turned on, thus preventing miserasure and misoverwrite due to the strong laser beam at the 5th step.

A magneto-optical disk is formed by forming a magnetic thin film having an axis of easy magnetization perpendicular to the film surface on a substrate, and records information by changing the magnetization direction of this magnetic thin film. During recording, the magnetization direction of the magnetic thin film is first aligned in one direction 1, and a radar beam digitally modulated according to the information signal is irradiated while applying a bias magnetic field in the opposite direction to the magnetization direction. do. Then, the temperature of the area irradiated by the radar beam rises to near the Curie point, the coercive force decreases, and the area is magnetized in the opposite direction to the surrounding area due to the influence of the bias magnetic field, forming a magnetization pattern according to the information. . Information recorded in this manner can be optically read out using the well-known magneto-optic effect by irradiating the medium with a low-power, unmodulated beam. Furthermore, by applying a magnetic field in the opposite direction to the bias magnetic field during recording, recorded information can be erased.

However, in the conventional information recording/reproducing device as described above, even if the laser power setting value is set to the mode for recording or erasing due to an external instruction or a failure of the circuit inside the device, there is no error. Since the laser was turned on under certain conditions, there was a problem in that the information on the medium could be destroyed in some cases.
