Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve durability greatly, to obtain certain thermal contact, and to improve thermal efficiency, by a method wherein a surface of a heating part is so titled as to be opposed to a conveying direction of a recording medium in a thermal head on which the heating part protrude. CONSTITUTION:Conveying of a recording medium 8 is performed under a state wherein a platen 9 is pressed onto a thermal head 7 as it is. Then, a protruding surface of a heating part 6 is formed by tilting so as to be opposed to a side to which recording medium 8 is being conveyed. Therefore, though pressing pressure distribution on the heating part 6 is not uniform for a platen 9 standing still, it becomes uniform while the thermal head is printing. Since the pressure distribution is uniform thus, even though the platen 9 is pressed onto the heating part 6 by a more strong pressure in comparison with a traditional one, a protective film of the thermal head 7 is not broken while the thermal head is printing. Therefore, durability can be improved greatly, and high pressure can be applied. Certain thermal contact can be obtained, and thermal efficiency can be also improved.

However, such a thermal head does not have the essential heat generating part (

In thermal recording, as shown in FIG.
The recording medium (8) that performs recording by selectively generating heat in the resistor of the thermal head (7) while conveying the recording medium (8) by rotating the recording medium (8) is not limited to thermal paper. A combination of an ink sheet and a receiver (image receiving sheet) is also included.

There are two ways to transport the recording medium (8): one method is to stop the recording medium when it generates heat and transport it when no heat is generated (intermittent drive), and the other is to transport it continuously (continuous drive). In both cases, the platen is moved by the thermal head. The platen (9) is conveyed while being pressed against the recording medium (8), so that the platen (9) is elastically deformed by receiving frictional force in the direction opposite to the conveyance direction from the thermal pad (7) via the recording medium (8). . The portion of the platen (9) compressed in the horizontal direction (parallel to the conveying direction) tries to expand in the vertical direction and generates pressure. As a result, as shown in Figure 5, The distribution of the pressing pressure is different from that when a stationary platen is pressed, and the pressure is higher on the side where the recording medium is being conveyed.

その為、記録媒体の送られて来る側の端部に圧力が集中

As a result, pressure concentrates on the end of the recording medium from which it is fed, creating a problem in which cracks or the like occur in the protective film in that area.

In the present invention, the surface of the protruding heat generating portion is inclined so as to face the side from which the recording medium is fed.

Therefore, as shown in FIG. 6, the pressing pressure distribution on the heat generating part is not uniform when the platen is stationary, but becomes uniform during printing. Since the pressure distribution is uniform in this way, even if the platen is pressed against the heat generating part with stronger pressure compared to conventional models, there will be no cracks in the heat generating part during printing, and the thermal contact will be more reliable. , durability is improved.

As described above, according to the present invention, the protruding heat generating part is made to face the side from which the recording medium is fed, and the pressure distribution by the platen during recording is made uniform, so that the destruction of the protective film due to pressure concentration is prevented. The durability is dramatically improved. This also provides advantages such as higher pressure can be applied, more reliable thermal contact is achieved, and therefore thermal efficiency is improved.
