Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the material property of hardness or the like to be improved and prevent the lowering of woody feeling by impregnating resin and then infiltrating a lumber reforming agent having a hardening acceleration function into the lumber. CONSTITUTION:As a resin, a water soluble resin such as, for instance, melamine resin or the like easy to handle is infiltrated into the lumber, and then the lumber reforming agent made up of two kinds of inorganic salt forming a insoluble compound in reacting each other is infiltrated, for instance, as a lumber reforming agent. In the inorganic salt, one produces cation such as Mg, Al, Zn, Ba and the like in water solution, and the other produces anion such as sulphate ion, phosphoric ion, carbonic ion and the like in water solution. Thus, the properties of rot-proof, fire-proof and the like of the lumber are improved, furthermore, the hardening of the resin can quickly be performed and the material property by the resin is improved as well as the damage of woody feeling owing to the lowering of resin impregnation quantity can be prevented.

One generates cation ions such as Ca, , Atl Zn+ Ba, etc., and the other generates anion ions such as sulfate ion, phosphate ion, carbonate ion, etc. in an aqueous solution. These modifiers are impregnated into wood in the form of an aqueous solution, and upon drying produce inorganic compounds that are insoluble in the wood. The order of impregnation of the two types of modifiers is not particularly limited.

By impregnating wood with the wood modifier, the performance of the wood, such as its antiseptic properties and flame retardancy, is improved. Furthermore, since this wood modifier also functions as a resin curing accelerator, the resin is quickly cured, production efficiency is increased, and the physical properties of the resin (hardness, strength, dimensional stability) are improved. When used in combination with a wood modifier, only a small amount of resin is required to be impregnated, so it is possible to prevent the surface from becoming wet and discolored.

Example 1: A Japanese pine veneer (thickness IO Ilm) was placed in a vacuum pot and left under reduced pressure (evacuation below 10 Torr for 1 hour or more). Melamine resin (solid content: 50%), which is a water-soluble resin, was then injected and impregnated into the wood.

5. In these Examples, the inorganic salt was impregnated into the wood veneer. The pH in the wood is lower (pH 3-4), and the curing speed of the melamine resin is faster, and what conventionally required 5-6 hours was now able to be cured in 2-3 hours. In addition, properties such as hardness, strength, and dimensional stability based on the melamine resin have been improved, and performances such as antiseptic properties and flame retardancy have also been improved by impregnation with inorganic salts. Furthermore, the surface did not become wet and colored.

According to this invention, by impregnating wood with a wood modifier, the performance of the wood, such as its antiseptic properties and flame retardance, is improved. Furthermore, this wood modifier also functions as a resin curing accelerator, so the resin hardens quickly, improving the physical properties of the resin (hardness, strength, dimensional stability), and improving the resin's wood modification properties. Since it is used in combination with a resin, the amount of resin impregnated is reduced and the surface becomes wet and the wood texture is prevented from being damaged.
