去ギヤツプをもつた消去ヘツドとから成る組合せ
型磁気ヘツドに関する。

ヘツドの両側部に消去ヘツドを配置した形式の磁
気ヘツドが知られている。一方の消去ヘツドはト
ラツクを覆つて主トラツクの一方の側部を限定
し、他方の消去ヘツドは同じ主トラツクの他方の
側部を限定する。記録動作中は記録再生ヘツドお
よび消去ヘツドは共に付勢され、これによつて記
録動作と同時にトラツクの両側を所定の巾で消去
していく。消去ヘツドによつて消去すべき巾は磁
気ヘツドの所定のトラツク上への位置調整を行う
ための位置決め機構の精度に依存する。近年、磁
気記録・再生装置の小形化の要望にともない、高
密度記録のためにトラツク密度も高くなつてきて
いる。

第2図に示すストラドルイレーズ方式の磁気ヘツ
ドがあり、それぞれ利点および欠点を有してい
る。第1図のトンネルイレーズ方式のものは、消
去ヘツド1,2の消去ギヤツプ3,4が磁気媒体
の走行方向に対して直角の方向に延在している。
なお、矢印は磁気媒体例えば磁気テープの記録再
生時の走行方向を表わす。消去ギヤツプ3,4か
ら磁気媒体の走行方向上流側にずれた位置に記録
再生ヘツド5の記録再生ギヤツプ6が形成されて
いるが、この方式では記録再生ギヤツプ6および
消去ギヤツプ3,4がともに平行である。この構
造の利点は後述する第2図のストラドル方式のも
のに比較して製造がやや容易であることである。
しかし、この構造では、消去ヘツド1,2の有効
ギヤツプに生じた磁束が記録再生ヘツド5による
有効ギヤツプ6の磁束に影響を与え、さらに消去
ギヤツプ3,4をこの位置とすることは記録再生
ギヤツプ6によつて記録された信号を再生する場
合に不適当である。消去ヘツド1,2と記録再生
ヘツド5の両者の磁束は同じ方向であるため、こ
れらの磁束間に相互の干渉が起る。さらに記録再
生トラツクの側縁に消去ギヤツプ3,4による消
去磁束を集中させるのが困難である。これに対
し、第2図のストラドルイレーズ方式の磁気ヘツ
ドは、記録再生ヘツド5の両側部にギヤツプ形成
用の非磁性材例えば樹脂、ガラス、チタン箔など
を介して消去ヘツド1,2を配置したものであ
り、消去ギヤツプ3,4は磁気ヘツド前面におい
て磁気媒体の走行方向に平行して延在し、記録再
生ヘツド5のギヤツプ6に対して直角となつてい
る。記録再生ギヤツプ6と消去ギヤツプ3,4の
磁束方向は同方向でなくなり、したがつて記録さ
れた信号に対する消去ギヤツプの磁束の影響およ
び記録再生ヘツドの磁気回路に対する干渉は最小
となる。この構造の利点は消去ヘツドとして強固
なコアを形成することが可能なことであり、また
磁気ヘツド自体の製造も比較的容易なことであ
る。しかしながら、この第2図の構造のものは、
再生すべきトラツクの巾が狭い場合、即ち高密度
トラツクの場合は大きな難点がある。実際上消去
されたトラツクの両側には常に遷移部が生ずる。
この部分は記録再生トラツクの外縁部から少なく
とも記録再生トラツクに隣接する消去ギヤツプの
巾に等しい距離だけ記録再生トラツク内に延在す

プ6が形成されている。この記録再生ヘツド5の
両側の側部に第3図および第4図a,bに示すよ
うに第1の消去用磁気ギヤツプ形成用の非磁性板
7,8を介してそれぞれ第2の消去用磁気ギヤツ
プ9,10をもつ一対の消去ヘツド1,2を配置
し、さらにこれらの消去ヘツド1,2を磁気テー
プ走行方向の前面あるいは後方の端部で、かつ磁
気テープ走行面から離して連結コア(後部コア)
11で連結し、この連結コア11にコイル12を
装着する。また各々の消去ヘツド1,2にもその
側方に後部コア13を取付けこのコアにもコイル
14を装着する。前記コイル12および各コイル
14は、独立してまたは直列または電源から並列
して接続すればよい。消去ヘツド1,2自体の第
2の消去用磁気ギヤツプ9,10は記録再生ヘツ
ド5の記録再生ギヤツプ6と平行に延在させてあ
る。この構造によりこの磁気ヘツド全体としては
磁気テープの走行方向に直角な記録再生ギヤツプ
6と磁気テープの走行方向に直角および平行な一
対のT字形消去ギヤツプとが形成されることにな
る。この消去ギヤツプのうち記録再生ヘツド5に
隣接した非磁性板7,8の部分の第1の消去用磁
気ギヤツプでは磁束の方向が記録再生ギヤツプ6
の磁束の方向と異つた方向となるのでこの部分の
磁束は記録再生ヘツドの磁気回路への干渉が少な
い。消去用の磁束は記録再生ヘツドの側部に集中
することとなるので、高い消去効率が得られる。
また磁気ヘツドの製造も第1図のトンネルイレー
ズ方式のものに比較してはるかに容易となり、さ
らに磁気ヘツド全体の強度も高めることが可能と
なる。
