Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title repellent retainable stably on the skin surface and keeping the repelling effect over a long period, by compounding N,N-diethyl- m-toluamide with castor oil. CONSTITUTION:The title repellent can be produced by compounding 1pt.wt. of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide with 0.2-3.0pts.wt. of castor oil. The repellent is resistant to be lost from the skin surface by evaporation, transcutaneous absorption, perspiration and abrasion with clothes when applied to the skin and keeps the repelling effect over a long period. The title preparation is used as a liquid, liniment, aerosol, non-aerosol spray, etc., in the form of a solution produced by dissolving or dispersing both components in an organic solvent (preferably ethanol) or in the form of an emulsion.

These repellent ingredients are put to practical use in the form of alcoholic solutions in sprays and aerosols, or in the form of creams and liniments. In particular, DEET is widely used as a repellent ingredient because it has an excellent repellent effect, does not irritate the skin, and has no unpleasant odor.

It is difficult to maintain the repellent effect over a long period of time because the repellent component is easily lost from the skin surface due to friction caused by clothing, etc.

Techniques for maintaining the repellent effect include the addition of powder (Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 199602/1986), but powder agents stain the skin white, liquid agents require shaking before use, and spray agents require shaking before use, and spray agents require nozzle This is undesirable as it causes clogging.

[Means for Solving the Problems] As a result of intensive research to solve the above problems, the present inventors found that a liquid formulation containing DEET and castor oil coexisted with DEET.
It was discovered that the retention of the skin on the skin surface was increased, and as a result, the repellent effect lasted for a long time, and based on this knowledge, the present invention was completed.

That is, castor oil is added to DEET and dissolved in an organic solvent to form a solution, or an emulsion is further formed by a conventional method. This is filled into a container with a coating stopper to form a liquid agent, or filled into a liniment container to form a liniment agent. Also, this can be filled into a non-aerosol type spray device to make a spray, or it can be filled into an aerosol container together with liquefied gas to make an aerosol.
