Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a connection terminal, shorten terminal length and restrain reflective strain at a connection part for optimum application to signal transmission at a high rate by using a flexible circuit board for connecting a circuit board to the connection terminal. CONSTITUTION:A flexible circuit board 16 connected with female side signal terminals 1 and 3, and female side grounding terminals 2 and 4, is kept in a 90 deg.-bent condition, a signal pattern 21 is connected to corresponding signal wiring pads 26 and 27 on a circuit board 6 via soldering and the like, and a grounding pattern 22 is connected and fixed to a grounding wire pad 28 on the circuit board h by using a bonding agent. The terminals 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 are connected to the circuit board 6 via the circuit board 16. Consequently, it becomes unnecessary to bend the terminals 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 for the packaging surface of the circuit board 6, and it is possible to unity and simplify the shapes of the terminals, and shorten the length thereof.

3 and the female ground terminals 2 and 4 are bent with respect to the mounting surface of the wiring board 6, so the terminal lengths are not uniform and it is difficult to shorten them. For this reason, it is difficult to suppress the inductance and capacitance of the terminal part, and it is difficult to control the impedance of the terminal part, so the reflection distortion at the connection part with the wiring board is significant and difficult to control, making it unsuitable for high-speed signal transmission. there were. Also,
When connecting the female signal terminal 1.3 and the female ground terminal 2.4 to the wiring board 6, it is necessary to connect the same number of terminals as there are terminals, and the component mounting area of the wiring board 6 is the area where the terminals are connected. However, as electrical connectors become more multi-terminal, the area for mounting components decreases.

the female side signal terminals 1, 3 and the female side ground terminal 2,
4 is connected to the wiring board 6 by the flexible wiring board 16.
Since the female signal terminals 1, 3 and the female ground terminals 2, 4 do not need to be bent with respect to the mounting surface of the wiring board 6, the shape of the terminals can be made uniform and simple. Since the terminal length can be shortened, it is relatively easy to suppress the inductance and capacitance of the terminal, and the structure is suitable for high-speed signal transmission.

In addition, the cross-sectional structure of the flexible wiring board of this electrical connector is, for example, as shown in FIG. 3(a), a so-called microstrip line structure, as shown in FIG. 3(b), a so-called strip line structure, As shown in Figure (C), by adopting a so-called coplanar structure,
By setting the characteristic impedance of the flexible wiring board within the range of impedance matching conditions (within ±30%), transmission of high-speed signals such as video signals (several 10 MHz to several 100 MHz), which is difficult with ordinary electrical connectors, is realized. It becomes possible.

Furthermore, since the female ground terminals 2.4 are connected together by the ground pattern 22, the number of connection points of the ground pattern 22 connected to the wiring board 6 is compared with the number of female ground terminals 2, 4. There is no need to connect the ground terminals to the wiring board 6 as in the conventional case.
The connection area of the flexible wiring board 16 to the wiring board 6 can be reduced.
