Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate gradation display or multicolor display of a discharge type display panel by forming the display panel with a construction of lamination of two or more of the discharge type display panel of a specific type. CONSTITUTION:On the surfaces of a display surface side glass substrate 1 and a back surface side glass substrate 2 respectively opposite to the back surface side glass substrate 2 and the display surface side glass substrate 1, are formed a transparent electrode 9, a dielectric body film 10, a spacer part 11, etc., as main functional parts of the discharge display. The display surface side and back surface side glass substrates 1, 2 are mated with their opposing surfaces and the two substrates are bonded with seal members 3, 4, 6, 7, and two or more of such combinations are bonded together. With this constitution, gradation display or multicolor display is facilitated.

In the conventional discharge type display panel described above, a display function is formed on the opposing surfaces of two opposing glass substrates on the display side and the back side, and these two glass substrates are aligned with their opposing surfaces,
Since the structure is sealed with a sealing member, each light emitting display section, that is, a discharge display cell, formed by opposing surfaces of two glass substrates is arranged in a plane.

Now, in order to obtain a discharge type display panel having, for example, a gradation display function or a multicolor display function with the above structure, a gradation display function or a multicolor display function is formed for each of the discharge display cells. Because of this necessity, the structure of each discharge display cell has traditionally been complicated.

Nowadays, discharge type display panels are manufactured by uniformly injecting a mixed gas mainly composed of Ne, which has stable discharge voltage characteristics and high visibility when emitting light, into each discharge display cell. If the discharge display cell is caused to emit light and perform a display operation based on the structure and operation method, there is a drawback that only monochromatic and monochromatic light can be obtained.

As described above, with the structure and operation method of conventional discharge type display panels, when performing gradation display or multicolor display, the structure of the discharge display cell itself as well as the electronic control circuit of the discharge display cell becomes complicated, resulting in a reduction in manufacturing yield. It is difficult to improve and reduce costs and is not suitable for mass production.

The conventional discharge type display panel described above has a structure in which the opposing surfaces of two opposing glass substrates, one on the display surface side and the other on the rear side, are sealed together with a sealing member. The present invention is different from the prior art in that it is possible to extremely easily realize gradation display or multi-color display on discharge type display panels by using a structure in which two or more discharge type display panels are laminated and bonded together.

Here, this embodiment has a structure in which the 0 part and the D part, which have the same structure as the above-mentioned part B, are joined to the B part by sealing members G of 6 and 7, and the discharge display cells of 8.8' and 8" are connected. Since they are arranged in a line in a layered manner, if the same discharge gas is introduced from the 5.5' and 5" exhaust parts and the 8.8' and 8" discharge display cells are selectively emitted, the gradation can be adjusted. By arranging fluorescent materials that emit different colors in the discharge display cells of each 8" bending layer, when viewed from the display section, it is possible to easily achieve multicolor display on the same display section, which is impossible with other methods. Therefore, it provides an extremely effective structure for future fine coloring.

In this embodiment, the discharge display cell is formed in three layers by joining the 0 part and the D part to the B part, but according to the main idea, only the 0 part or the C part and the D part can be formed. Furthermore, by laminating them, two layers or four or more layers can be formed, and more diverse gradation displays and multicolor displays can be easily realized.

As explained above, the present invention forms a discharge display function on the opposing surfaces of two opposing glass substrates, one on the display surface side and the other on the rear side, and aligns these two glass substrates with their opposing surfaces, using a sealing member. In contrast to conventional discharge display panels that have a sealed structure, by forming a discharge display panel with a structure in which two or more discharge display panels are stacked, gradation display or multicolor display can be achieved. This has the effect of being extremely easy to achieve.
