Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the initial conformability for a member to be braked by dispersing metallic fillers respectively so as to be thin in the region of a pressing surface and the neighborhood thereof, and to be thick in the region nearer to the bonding surface side than the above region. CONSTITUTION:A friction pad 1 for a disk brake comprises a lining plate 2 being suspended by hanger pins and a lining 4 having been adhered to the lining plate 2 via a bonding surface 3. The lining 4 contains steel fibers f as an abrasion-resistant metallic filler having magnetism. The steel fibers f are dispersed respectively so as to be thin in the region r of a pressing surface 6 and the neighborhood thereof, and to be thick in the region nearer to the bonding surface 3 side than the above region r. Thus, the initial conformability for the member to be braked can be improved.

The present invention also provides a brake lining that includes a wear-resistant metal filler, has one surface as a pressing surface for a braked member, and has a surface opposite to the pressing surface as an adhesive surface for a backing plate. A lining material containing the magnetic metal filler is prepared, and then when the lining material is subjected to a molding operation, a magnetic force is applied from the adhesive surface side to spread the metal filler onto the pressing surface and its surface. It is characterized in that it is distributed coarsely in nearby areas and densely on the adhesive surface side of the area.

(2) Effect According to the above-mentioned lining, the amount of metal filler dispersed in the pressing area and the area near it is smaller than the initial amount, so the wear resistance of the area is reduced accordingly, and this causes the lining to be hardened against the braked member. Good initial conformability can be achieved.

During the compression molding, for example, switch 1 is pressed before starting the molding operation.
5 is closed and the electromagnet 17 is energized until the end of the forming operation, and a magnetic force is applied to the steel fibers f in the lining material m to attract the steel fibers r to the adhesive surface 3 side. By appropriately adjusting the magnetic force at this time, the amount of dispersion of the steel fibers f can be increased on the adhesive surface 3 side and decreased on the pressing surface 6 side.
