Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately reproduce recording data irrespective of the kind and quality of a recording medium by previously recording an alternate reference corresponding to the kind of the recording medium and the quality of a recording film into the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The eight tracks of an optical disk 20 consists of a user sector group 20 where data or the like is recorded by a user and an alternate sector group 20B which is a stand-by recording area when there is a fault in the area of the user sector group 20. An outer peripheral track group is set into a system track group 21 into which various control information of a recording reproducing device are written. The alternate reference which is previously recorded in the system track group 21a of the optical disk 20 is read in accordance with the kind of the optical disk 20 and the quality of the recording film and an alternate processing is executed in correspondence with the read alternate reference. Thus, recording data can accurately be reproduced hereafter.

Furthermore, since the recording film of recording media such as optical disks is not uniform due to manufacturing defects or handling during use, a recording/reproducing device records data and then reproduces this data to create a predetermined reproduction data. If the number of errors (replacement standard) or more occurs, the same data is recorded again in a replacement sector or track that serves as a backup recording area (replacement process), so that the recorded data can be played back correctly at a later date. .
