実施例1:乾式正極、バイモーダル正極活物質、大径:小径の正極活物質重量比7:3、合剤密度3.6g/cm 3
(正極の製造)
第1正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)18μmの大径LiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、大径NCA91と称する)、第2正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)3μmの小径のLiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、小径NCA91と称する)、乾燥導電材として炭素導電材(Denka Black)、及び乾燥バインダとしてポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)を67.2:28.8:1.8:2.2の重量比でブレードミキサーに投入した後、25℃、1000rpmの速度で10分間1次乾式混合して、正極活物質、導電材、及びバインダが均一に混合された第1混合物を準備した。
前記で製造された正極を使用し、リチウム金属を相対電極とし、PTFEセパレータ(separator)と1.3M LiPF6がEC(エチレンカーボネート)+EMC(エチルメチルカーボネート)+DMC(ジメチルカーボネート)(3:4:3体積比)に溶けている溶液を電解質として使用してコインセルを製造した。
正極活物質層の合剤密度を3.0g/cm3に変更したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
第1正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)18μmの大径LiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、大径NCA91と称する)、第2正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)3μmの小径のLiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、小径NCA91と称する)、乾燥導電材として炭素導電材(Denka Black)、及び乾燥バインダとしてポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)を76.8:19.2:1.8:2.2の重量比に変更したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
第1正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)18μmの大径LiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、大径NCA91と称する)、第2正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)3μmの小径のLiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、小径NCA91と称する)、乾燥導電材として炭素導電材(Denka Black)、及び乾燥バインダとしてポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)を76.8:19.2:1.8:2.2の重量比に変更し、正極活物質層の合剤密度を3.0g/cm3に変更したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
(正極の製造)
第1正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)18μmの大径LiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、大径NCA91と称する)、第2正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)3μmの小径のLiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、小径NCA91と称する)、炭素導電材(Denka Black)、及びポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVdF)を67.2:28.8:1.8:2.2の重量比で混合した混合物をN-メチルピロリドン(NMP)と共にメノウ乳鉢で混合してスラリーを製造した。
前記で製造された正極を使用したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法でコインセルを製造した。
正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)18μmの大径LiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、大径NCA91と称する)のみを使用し、小径の正極活物質は除外したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
正極活物質として平均粒径(D50)3μmの小径のLiNi0.91Co0.05Al0.04O2(以下、小径NCA91と称する)のみを使用し、大径の正極活物質を除外したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
第2混合物をすり鉢(mortar mill)に入れ、100rpmの速度で5分間追加処理した後、押出機に投入し、押出して、シート状の正極活物質層自立膜(self-standing film)を準備したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
第2混合物を遠心分離型高速粉砕機(centrifugal mill)12000rpmにおいて3分間追加処理し、200μmの篩(sieve)に通過させた後、押出機に投入し、押出してシート状の正極活物質層自立膜を準備したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で正極及びリチウム電池を製造した。
カーボン層がコーティングされていない10μm厚さのアルミニウム薄膜を正極集電体として使用したことを除いては、実施例1と同様の方法で乾式正極を製造した。
SAICAS (SAICAS EN-EX, Daipla Wintes, JAPAN)を使用して実施例1及び比較例1で製造された正極が含む正極活物質層の結着特性を分析した。
垂直方向相対結着力(FVR, Vertical Relative Force)の変化率=[(垂直方向相対結着力の最大値-垂直方向相対結着力の最小値)/垂直方向相対結着力の最小値]×100
SAICAS (SAICAS EN-EX, Daipla Wintes, JAPAN)を使用して、実施例1及び比較例1で製造された正極が含む正極活物質層の結着特性を分析した。
第1地点と第2地点の水平方向結着力の比率(%)=[FH2/FH1]×100
実施例1ないし4及び比較例1ないし5で製造されたリチウム電池を25℃で0.1C rateの電流で電圧が4.4V(vs.Li)に至るまで定電流を充電し、次いで、定電圧モードで4.4Vを保持しながら、0.05C rateの電流でカットオフ(cut-off)した。次いで、放電時に電圧が2.8V(vs.Li)に至るまで0.1C rateの定電流で放電した(化成(formation)サイクル)。
容量保持率[%]=[100thサイクルでの放電容量/1stサイクルでの放電容量]×100
実施例1ないし4及び比較例1ないし5で製造されたリチウム電池を25℃で0.1C rateの電流で電圧が4.4V(vs.Li)に至るまで定電流を充電し、次いで、定電圧モードで4.4Vを保持しながら、0.05C rateの電流でカットオフ(cut-off)した。次いで、放電時に電圧が2.8V(vs.Li)に至るまで0.1C rateの定電流で放電した(化成(formation)サイクル)。

Claims (18)
- 電極集電体と、
前記電極集電体の一面または両面上に配置される電極活物質層と、を含み、
前記電極活物質層が第1電極活物質、第2電極活物質及びバインダを含み、
前記電極活物質層が第1クラスタを含み、前記第1クラスタ(1st cluster)は、複数の第1電極活物質を含む凝集体(agglomerate)であり、
前記電極活物質層の一面が前記第1クラスタを含む第1領域(1st domain)を含み、
前記第1領域の面積が前記電極活物質層の一面の全体面積に対して15%~60%であり、
前記電極活物質層の一面が第2クラスタ(2 nd cluster)を含む第2領域(2 nd domain)をさらに含み、
前記第2クラスタは、複数の第2電極活物質及びバインダを含む凝集体(agglomerate)であり、
前記第1電極活物質が前記第2電極活物質に比べて大きな粒径を有する大径の電極活物質であり、前記第2電極活物質が前記第1電極活物質に比べて小さな粒径を有する小径の電極活物質である、電極。 - 前記第1クラスタを構成する複数の第1電極活物質の個数が4~200である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記電極活物質層の一面において1つの第1クラスタが占める面積が2500μm2以上である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記第1電極活物質と第2電極活物質が粒度分布図においてバイモーダル粒径分布を有する、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記第1電極活物質と前記第2電極活物質との粒径比が3:1~40:1である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記第1電極活物質の粒径は、15μm~30μmであり、前記第2電極活物質の粒径は、1μm~6μmである、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記第1電極活物質と前記第2電極活物質との重量比が90:10~60:40である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記バインダが乾燥バインダであり、前記乾燥バインダが繊維化(fibrillized)バインダを含み、前記乾燥バインダがフッ素系バインダを含む、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記電極活物質層が導電材をさらに含み、前記導電材が乾燥導電材であり、前記乾燥導電材が炭素系導電材を含む、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記電極活物質層が自立膜(self-standing film)であり、前記電極活物質層に残留工程溶媒(residual processing solvent)が不在(free)である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記電極集電体は、ベースフィルムと、前記ベースフィルムの片面または両面に配置された金属層とを含み、
ベースフィルムはポリマーを含み、ポリマーは、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)、ポリエチレン(PE)、ポリプロピレン(PP)、ポリブチレンテレフタレート(PBT)、ポリイミド(PI)、またはそれらの組み合わせを含み、
金属層は、インジウム(In)、銅(Cu)、マグネシウム(Mg)、ステンレス鋼、チタン(Ti)、鉄(Fe)、コバルト(Co)、ニッケル(Ni)、亜鉛(Zn)、アルミニウム(Al)を含む )、ゲルマニウム(Ge)、リチウム(Li)、またはそれらの合金を含む、請求項1に記載の電極。 - 前記電極集電体が前記電極集電体の一面または両面上に配置されるコーティング層を含み、前記コーティング層の厚さが前記電極集電体厚さの30%以下であり、
前記コーティング層がバインダを含み、前記バインダが伝導性バインダ及び非伝導性バインダのうち、選択された1つ以上を含み、前記バインダがフッ素系バインダを含む、請求項11に記載の電極。 - 前記コーティング層が炭素系導電材をさらに含む、請求項12に記載の電極。
- 前記電極活物質層が、SAICAS(surface and Interfacial Measuring Analysis System)測定時に、前記電極活物質層の全体厚さに対して前記電極活物質層の表面から前記電極集電体方向に5%離隔された第1地点から、前記電極集電体の表面から5%離隔された第2地点までの深さによる垂直方向相対結着力(FVR, Vertical Relative Force)の変化率が300%以下である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記電極活物質層が、SAICAS測定時に、前記電極活物質層の全体厚さに対して前記電極活物質層表面から電極集電体方向に10%離隔された第1地点での第1水平方向結着力(FH1, Horizontal Force)に対する前記電極集電体の表面から10%離隔された第2地点での第2水平方向結着力(FH2, Horizontal Force)の水平方向結着力の比率が50%以上である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 正極;負極;及び
前記正極と負極との間に配置される電解質;を含み、
前記正極及び負極のうち、1つ以上が、請求項1ないし15のうち、いずれか1項に記載の電極である、リチウム電池。 - 前記電解質が液体電解質または固体電解質である、請求項16に記載のリチウム電池。
- 第1電極活物質、第2電極活物質、乾燥導電材及び乾燥バインダを乾式混合して乾燥混合物を準備する段階と、
前記乾燥混合物から電極活物質層を形成する段階と、
前記電極活物質層を圧延する段階と、
前記圧延された電極活物質層を電極集電体に配置して電極を製造する段階と、を含み、
前記電極が、電極集電体と、
前記電極集電体の一面または両面上に配置される電極活物質層と、を含み、
前記電極活物質層が第1電極活物質、第2電極活物質及びバインダを含み、
前記電極活物質層が第1クラスタを含み、前記第1クラスタ(1st cluster)は、複数の第1電極活物質を含む凝集体(agglomerate)であり、
前記電極活物質層の一面が前記第1クラスタを含む第1領域(1st domain)を含み、
前記第1領域の面積が前記電極活物質層の一面の全体面積に対して15%~60%である、電極製造方法。
