本実施形態における改質システム(以下、単に「システム」ともいう。)は、第1反応器と、第2反応器とを備える。システムは、酸素キャリアが第1反応器と第2反応器とを循環流動するケミカルループ式のシステムであってもよいし、ガスを交互に切り替えてスイッチングさせるサイクリックオペレーションシステムであってもよい。
第1反応器10は、第1入口11と第1出口12とを有する。第1入口11からは、炭化水素系材料が供給される。そして、炭化水素系材料が第1入口11から第1出口12に向けて移動するにつれて、炭化水素系材料と、第1反応器10の内部にある酸化された酸素キャリアM(O)とが反応し、還元された酸素キャリアM( )と水素と炭素酸化物とを生成する。そして、水素と炭素酸化物は、第1出口12から排出される。一方、還元された酸素キャリアM( )は、第2反応器20の第2入口21に向けて循環流動する。

本実施形態では、酸素キャリアの酸化還元サイクルを利用する。700℃未満で酸化還元サイクルを実現可能にするため、酸素キャリアは、固体電解質であることが好ましい。
酸素キャリアの平均一次粒子径の上限は、特に限定されないが、反応物質との暴露表面積(接触可能性)の最大化、また格子歪による酸素空孔易形成性の観点から、1μm以下であることが好ましく、100nm以下であることがより好ましく、50nm以下であることがさらに好ましく、30nm以下であることがよりさらに好ましく、10nm以下であることが特に好ましい。
酸素キャリアの形状は、低温でのより大きな酸素移動性(OSC)を有することから、最も活性な面を露出させることが必要であり、それによって粒子形状が決まる。最活性面は酸素キャリア材の種類によって異なるが、熱力学的に最も不安定な面であり、その情報は材料データベース等から容易に入手できる。例えばCeO2の場合の酸素キャリアの形状は、略立方体であり、(100)面を主な露出面とすることが好ましい。Fe3O4の場合、(110)面を主な露出面とするのが好ましい。
酸素キャリアの製造方法は、特に限定されるものでないが、酸素キャリアが金属酸化物ナノ粒子である場合、例えば、特許第3047110号(当該特許の発明者の一人は本発明者である)に開示されている方法によって製造することができる。
(i)高温高圧水を反応場として、金属化合物を水熱反応に付してCeO2等の金属酸化物ナノ粒子を形成し、
(ii)高温高圧水を反応場として、金属酸化物ナノ粒子表面と有機修飾剤とを反応せしめ、置換されていてもよいし非置換のものであってよい炭化水素基を共有結合、あるいはエーテル結合、エステル結合、N原子を介した結合、S原子を介した結合、金属-C-の結合、金属-C=の結合及び金属-(C=O)-の結合からなる群から選ばれたものを介してナノ粒子の表面に結合せしめてナノ粒子の表面を有機修飾し、
(iii)(1)水溶液に分散させた金属酸化物ナノ粒子を沈殿させて回収すること、(2)水溶液に分散させた金属酸化物ナノ粒子を有機溶媒中へ移行せしめて回収すること、又は(3)有機溶媒相-水相界面に金属酸化物ナノ粒子を集めることによって、金属酸化物ナノ粒子が得られる。
炭化水素系材料とは、分子中に炭素と水素とを含む化合物若しくはそれらの混合物をいい、分子中に酸素等、他の元素を含んでいてもよい。炭化水素系材料の例として、炭化水素類、アルコール類、エーテル類、バイオ燃料等が挙げられる。
反応温度の上限は、特に限定されないが、低温廃熱を利用するため、上限は、600℃以下であることが好ましく、550℃以下であることがより好ましく、500℃以下であることがさらに好ましく、450℃以下であることがよりさらに好ましく、400℃以下であることが特に好ましい。
反応時間の上限は、特に限定されないが、よりいっそうの短縮化を実現するため、反応時間は、50分以下であることが好ましく、33分以下であることがより好ましく、25分以下であることがさらに好ましく、20分以下であることがよりさらに好ましく、10分以下であることが特に好ましい。
第1反応器10の材質は、特に限定されるものでなく、クロム-モリブデン鋼、ステンレス鋼のような温度耐性の高い材料に限らず、普通鋼であってもよい。

第2反応器20は、第2入口21と第2出口22とを有する。第2入口21からは酸化剤が供給される。そして、酸化剤が第2入口21から第2出口22に向けて移動するにつれて、酸化剤と、第2反応器20の内部にある還元された酸素キャリアM( )とが反応し、酸化された酸素キャリアM(O)と酸化剤の還元生成物とを生成する。そして、酸化剤の還元生成物は、第2出口22から排出される。一方、酸化された酸素キャリアM(O)は、第1反応器10の第1入口11に向けて循環流動する。
酸化剤は、還元された酸素キャリアM( )を酸化可能な材料であれば、特に限定されない。酸化剤の例として、水、二酸化炭素、酸素及び/又は空気等が挙げられる。
酸化剤が水である場合、第2反応器20において炭化水素系材料の水蒸気改質を実現できる。
M( )+H2O→M(O)+H2
酸化剤が二酸化炭素である場合、第2反応器20において炭化水素系材料のCO2ドライリフォーミングを実現できる。
酸化剤が酸素及び/又は空気である場合、第2反応器20において炭化水素系材料の部分酸化を実現できる。
第2反応器20では、酸化剤に含まれる酸素成分が酸素キャリアを酸化し、それによって酸化剤の還元生成物が生成する。第2反応器20での反応は発熱反応であり、低温でも好適に反応が進行する。したがって、第2反応器20において、反応温度は特に限定されない。

〔実施例1-1〕 市販の酸化セリウムナノ粒子
酸素キャリアとして、酸化セリウムナノ粒子(一次粒子径:<25nm,製品番号:544841-25G,CAS番号:1306-38-3,アルドリッチ社)を使用した。
(2)500℃にて測定系内にO2ガスを流し、試料に十分量吸着させる。
(3)500℃にて測定系内にHeガスを流す。
(4)500℃にて測定系内にH2ガスを流し、試料を還元し吸着O2を取り除く。
(5)500℃にて測定系内にHeガスを流す。
(6)反応温度すなわち検出温度(200℃、250℃、300℃、350℃、400℃、450℃及び500℃)にて測定系内にHeガスを流す(ここまでが前処理である。)
(7)上記検出温度にて、Heガスをキャリアガスとして、O2ガスをパルスで測定系内に流す。
(8)流したパルスのO2ガスが検出器によって検出されなくなるまで、O2ガスをパルスで測定系内に流す。
(9)O2ガスの全流出量から全検出量を引いた値が、O2ガスの全吸着量(cm3)として見積もられる。
(10)上記(9)で求めたO2ガスの全吸着量(cm3)と試料の仕込み量(g)からO2ガスの単位吸着量(cm3/g)を算出し、試料1gあたりの酸素モル数を求めてOSCとする。
酸素キャリアとして、超臨界法により合成されたヘキサン酸修飾CeO2ナノキューブ(株式会社アイテック製,CASNo.1306-38-3,平均一次粒子径:10nm±3nm)を使用した。このナノキューブは、酸素移動性(酸素貯蔵放出能)を高めるため、有機修飾剤(本実施例ではヘキサン酸)を用いて(100)面が主な露出面になるように制御されている。そこで、ナノキューブを300℃で2時間燃焼し、ナノキューブから有機修飾剤を除去した。以下では、有機修飾剤除去後の(100)面が露出したCeO2をCeO2ナノキューブという。
[Cr-CeO2の合成]
クロムドープ酸化セリウム(Cr-CeO2)は、報告されている流通式超臨界水熱合成法により合成した。Cr-CeO2の合成にあたっては、図2に示す装置30を用いた。
酸素キャリアが上記の立方晶CrドープCeO2ナノ粒子であること以外は、実施例1-1と同じ手法にて酸素キャリアのOSCを測定した。結果を図3に示す。
[FeOx-ZrO2の合成]
酸素キャリアが酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物(FeOx-ZrO2)である場合についても、図2と同様の流通系のシステムで合成した。FeSO4・7H2O(0.45M)及びZrO(NO3)2・2H2O(0.18M)を含有する水溶液を室温で供給し、もう一方の流路から超臨界水を供給し、急速昇温反応させた。反応温度は400℃、反応圧力は30MPa、反応時間は2秒以下であった。
酸素キャリアが上記の酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物粒子であること以外は、実施例1-1と同じ手法にて酸素キャリアのOSCを測定した。結果を図3に示す。
図3は、試験例1における低温域での酸素貯蔵放出能(OSC)の評価の結果を示す図である。実施例1-1の市販のCeO2と比較すると、露出面制御酸化セリウム(実施例1-2)はより高く、Crドープ酸化セリウム(実施例1-3)はさらに高く、鉄ジルコニア(実施例1-4)では、4桁近くも高い値を示している。
〔試験方法〕
実施例1-3と同様の手法にて、Crのドープ量が7mol%、23mol%、29mol%、30mol%であるCr-CeO2を合成した。
図4より、試験例2で用いられた酸素キャリアは、いずれも、600℃以下の低温廃熱レベルでも十分なOSCが得られるといえる。また、図4より、CrのCeO2へのドープ量が多いほど、より大きな酸素移動度が得られることが確認された。図3に示すように、露出面制御CeO2は、市販のものと比較して、低温でも高いOSCすなわち酸素移動度がえられた。図4におけるCr0%の縦軸上の点は、実施例1-3の結果を示す。CrのDopeにより、非常に高いOSCを得ることができる。なお、通常のオートクレーブによる、バッチ型の反応装置では、CrのDope量は数%であった。しかし、流通型急速昇温合成法による非平衡系合成法によれば、数10%もの高いDope率を達成できた。これにより、非常に高いOSCが得られた。
〔試験方法〕
実施例1-2で用いたCeO2ナノキューブについて、TEM(透過型電子顕微鏡)により酸素キャリア粒子の画像を撮像し、そのTEM像を画像解析・画像計測ソフトウェアにより解析することで、平均一次粒子径と粒子内の酸素空孔形成性との関係を調べた。結果を図5~図8に示す。
図5は、上段から平均一次粒子径が11nm、10nm、9nm、8nm、7nm、6nm、5nmであるときのセリウム元素の原子カラム(横軸)と、Ce3+/(Ce3++Ce4+)、すなわち粒子内の酸素空孔形成性(縦軸)との関係を示す。図5によると、平均一次粒子径が11nmである場合、表面付近で酸素欠陥が現れているのに対し、平均一次粒子径が小さくなればなるほど、セリウム元素の中心にまで酸素欠陥が現れていることが分かる。セリウム元素の内部にまで酸素空孔が広がることは、酸素原子が移動しており、ナノ粒子表面だけでなく、粒子全域の酸素が使えていることを意味する。これにより、酸素キャリアの平均一次粒子径が小さいほど、反応物質との暴露表面積(接触可能性)の最大化と、格子歪による酸素空孔易形成性とを実現できるといえる。そして、高いOSCが得られた要因がここに見られる。
図9の(B)に示すように、第1反応器R1と、第2反応器R1とを備え、ガスを交互に切り替えてスイッチングさせるサイクリックオペレーションシステムを使用して、図9の(A)に示すケミカルループ反応を模して酸素キャリアの反応速度を評価した。
2つの反応器R1,R2に、酸素キャリアとして、実施例1-2で使用したCeO2ナノキューブを充填させた。反応器R1,R2は、CH4又は水を導入可能に構成され、酸素キャリアが酸化された状態にある反応器では、CH4を導入してCH4を酸化させつつ、酸化された酸素キャリアを還元させる第1反応工程を行った。他方、酸素キャリアが還元された状態にある反応器には、水を導入し、還元された酸素キャリアを酸化させつつ、水を還元させる第2反応工程を行った。2つの反応器R1,R2のそれぞれに充填された酸素キャリアの状態によって、反応器R1,R2に導入する材料をCH4と水との間で交互に切り替えた。そして、反応温度は、400℃及び350℃の2種類としてCO2生成量の経時変化を測定した。結果を図10に示す。
酸素キャリアを実施例1-3で使用したクロムドープ酸化セリウム(Cr-CeO2)とし、反応温度を300℃として、実施例4-1と同様の手法にてCO2生成量の経時変化を測定した。さらに、この測定を25回繰り返した。結果を図11及び図12に示す。
酸素キャリアを実施例1-4で使用した酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物(FeOx-ZrO2)とし、反応温度を500℃として、実施例4-1と同様の手法にてCO2生成量の経時変化を測定した。結果を図13に示す。
実施例1-1で使用した酸化セリウム(CeO2)100質量部に対し、助触媒として0.1質量部のPdを担持させた。そして、Pd担持CeO2を酸素キャリアとして、反応温度を400℃として、実施例4-1と同様の手法にてCO2生成量の経時変化を測定するとともに、H2生成量の経時変化も測定した。結果を図14に示す。
〔実施例5-1〕 酸素キャリアが酸化セリウム(CeO2)の場合
実施例1-1で使用した酸化セリウム(CeO2)を酸化状態にし、1台の反応器に充填した。そして、CH4を導入し、300℃でCH4を酸化させ、二酸化炭素及び水素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。その際、反応圧力は、0.15MPaであった。結果を図16(A)に示す。
実施例1-1で使用した酸化セリウム(CeO2)100質量部に対し、助触媒として10質量部のNiを担持させた。そして、Ni担持CeO2を酸素キャリアとして、実施例5-1と同様の手法にて二酸化炭素及び水素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。結果を図16(B)に示す。
実施例5-1に関し、CeO2との反応で、理論的には、H2がCO2に対して2倍の量で生成するはずであるところ、H2生成量がCO2の生成量よりも少ない。その理由は、生成したH2が燃焼し、H2Oになったためと推察される。
実施例5-2で用いたNi担持CeO2を酸素キャリアとし、反応圧力を0.15MPa、0.3MPa、0.6MPa、0.9MPaの4種類として、実施例5-1と同様の手法にて二酸化炭素及び水素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。反応時間はそれぞれ20分であった。結果を図17に示す。
〔試験例7-1〕 酸素キャリアが酸化セリウム(CeO2)の場合
[CO2生成]
実施例1-1で使用した酸化セリウム(CeO2)を酸化状態にし、1台の反応器に充填した。そして、CH4を導入し、300℃でCH4を酸化させ、二酸化炭素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。その際、反応圧力は、0.6MPaであった。結果を図18(A)に示す。
実施例1-1で使用した酸化セリウムを還元状態にし、1台の反応器に充填した。そして、水蒸気を導入し、300℃で還元状態の酸化セリウムを酸化させ、水素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。その際、反応圧力は、8MPaであった。結果を図18(B)に示す。
[CO2生成]
実施例4-3で使用した酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物(FeOx-ZrO2)を酸化状態にし、1台の反応器に充填した。そして、CH4を導入し、400℃でCH4を酸化させ、二酸化炭素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。その際、反応圧力は、0.6MPaであった。結果を図19(A)に示す。
実施例4-3で使用した酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物を還元状態にし、1台の反応器に充填した。そして、水蒸気を導入し、400℃で還元状態の複合酸化物を酸化させ、水素の生成量の経時変化を測定した。その際、反応圧力は、8MPaであった。結果を図19(B)に示す。
酸素キャリアが酸化セリウム(CeO2)の場合、CH4から二酸化炭素の生成反応における反応速度定数kは、0.060[min-1]であり、水蒸気から水素の生成反応における反応速度定数kは、0.044[min-1]であった。それに対し、酸素キャリアが酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物の場合、CH4から二酸化炭素の生成反応における反応速度定数kは、0.07[min-1]であり、水蒸気から水素の生成反応における反応速度定数kは、0.135[min-1]であった。このことからも、本反応系において、酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物が酸素キャリアとして特に優れることが裏付けられる。

Claims (10)
- 酸化された酸素キャリアと炭化水素系材料とを、反応温度を550℃以下とし、反応時間を4分以上50分以下として反応させ、水素と炭素酸化物とを生成する第1反応器と、
還元された酸素キャリアと酸化剤とを反応させ、前記酸化された酸素キャリアを生成する第2反応器とを備え、
前記酸素キャリアの一次粒子の平均粒子径が30nm以下であり、
前記第2反応器での反応生成物の1つである前記酸化された酸素キャリアが前記第2反応器での反応熱を回収し、当該酸素キャリアが前記第2反応器から前記第1反応器に向けて循環流動し、前記第1反応器にて前記反応熱を回収した前記酸化された酸素キャリアと前記炭化水素系材料とを接触させることで、前記酸素キャリアを酸素の輸送源として機能させるだけでなく、熱の輸送源としても機能させる、
ケミカルループ式炭化水素低温改質システム。 - 酸素キャリアが充填された複数の反応器を備え、
前記複数の反応器は、炭化水素系材料又は酸化剤を導入可能に構成され、
前記複数の反応器のうち、前記酸素キャリアが酸化された状態にある反応器には、前記炭化水素が導入され、反応温度を550℃以下とし、反応時間を4分以上50分以下として前記炭化水素系材料を酸化させることが可能であり、
前記複数の反応器のうち、前記酸素キャリアが還元された状態にある反応器には、前記酸化剤が導入され、前記酸化剤を還元させることが可能であり、
前記酸素キャリアの一次粒子の平均粒子径が30nm以下であり、
前記複数の反応器のそれぞれに充填された前記酸素キャリアの状態によって、前記反応器に導入する材料を前記炭化水素系材料と前記酸化剤との間で切り替え可能であり、
前記反応器に導入する材料が前記酸化剤であり、前記酸素キャリアが還元された状態にある反応器での反応生成物の1つである前記酸化された酸素キャリアが当該反応器での反応熱を回収し、前記酸素キャリアが酸化された状態にあり、前記反応器に導入する材料を前記酸化剤から前記炭化水素系材料に切り替えられた反応器にて前記反応熱を回収した前記酸化された酸素キャリアと前記炭化水素系材料とを接触させることで、前記酸素キャリアを酸素の輸送源として機能させるだけでなく、熱の輸送源としても機能させる、
炭化水素低温改質システム。 - 前記酸化剤が水を含む、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記酸化剤が二酸化炭素を含む、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記酸化剤が酸素及び/又は空気を含む、請求項1又は2に記載のシステム。
- 前記酸素キャリアは、酸化セリウム(CeO2)、クロムドープ酸化セリウム(Cr-CeO2)、酸化鉄-ジルコニア系複合酸化物(FeOx-ZrO2)、酸化鉄(Fe2O3)、酸化インジウム(In2O3)、イットリウム安定化酸化ジルコニウム(YSZ)、酸化スカンジウムドープ酸化ジルコニウム(ScSZ)、酸化スカンジウム(Sc2O3)、酸化ランタンガリウム(LaGaO3)、ランタンストロンチウムマンガナイト(LSM)、ガドリニウムドープ酸化セリウム(Gd-CeO2)、酸化モリブデン(MoO3)、酸化マンガン(MnO3)、ランタンストロンチウムコバルトフェライト(LSCF)、ランタンストロンチウムフェライト(LSF)、四酸化三コバルト(Co3O4)、酸化コバルトII(CoO)、酸化バナジウム(V2O5)、及びセリア・ジルコニア固溶体からなる群から選択される1種以上を含む、請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のシステム。
- 前記反応器の内部に前記酸素キャリア及び金属助触媒が共存されている、及び/又は前記酸素キャリアに金属助触媒が担持されている、請求項1から6のいずれか1項に記載のシステム。
- 前記酸素キャリアの形状が最も活性な露出面を有する形状である、請求項1から7のいずれか1項に記載のシステム。
- 酸化された酸素キャリアと炭化水素系材料とを、反応温度を550℃以下とし、反応時間を4分以上50分以下として反応させ、水素と炭素酸化物とを生成する第1反応工程と、
還元された酸素キャリアと酸化剤とを反応させ、前記酸化された酸素キャリアを生成する第2反応工程とを含み、
前記酸素キャリアの一次粒子の平均粒子径が30nm以下であり、
前記第2反応工程での反応生成物の1つである前記酸化された酸素キャリアが前記第2反応工程での反応熱を回収し、当該酸素キャリアが前記第2反応工程での反応器から前記第1反応工程での反応器に向けて循環流動し、前記第1反応工程にて前記反応熱を回収した前記酸化された酸素キャリアと前記炭化水素系材料とを接触させることで、前記酸素キャリアを酸素の輸送源として機能させるだけでなく、熱の輸送源としても機能させる、水素及び/又は合成ガスの低温での製造方法。 - 酸素キャリアが充填された複数の反応器を備え、
前記複数の反応器は、炭化水素系材料又は酸化剤を導入可能に構成され、
前記複数の反応器のうち、前記酸素キャリアが酸化された状態にある反応器では、前記炭化水素を導入し、反応温度を550℃以下とし、反応時間を4分以上50分以下として前記炭化水素系材料を酸化させる第1反応工程を行い、
前記複数の反応器のうち、前記酸素キャリアが還元された状態にある反応器には、前記酸化剤が導入され、前記酸化剤を還元させる第2反応工程を行い、
前記酸素キャリアの一次粒子の平均粒子径が30nm以下であり、
前記複数の反応器のそれぞれに充填された前記酸素キャリアの状態によって、前記反応器に導入する材料を前記炭化水素系材料と前記酸化剤との間で切り替える切替工程を含み、
前記第2反応工程での反応生成物の1つである前記酸化された酸素キャリアが前記第2反応工程で反応熱を回収し、前記反応器に導入する材料を前記酸化剤から前記炭化水素系材料に切り替え、当該切り替え後、前記第1反応工程として、前記反応熱を回収した前記酸化された酸素キャリアと前記炭化水素系材料とを接触させることで、前記酸素キャリアを酸素の輸送源として機能させるだけでなく、熱の輸送源としても機能させる、水素及び/又は合成ガスの低温での製造方法。
