Description
The present invention relates to esophageal catheters used, for example, during atrial fibrillation ablation.
The esophagus is located behind the heart and can be burned by the heat of atrial fibrillation ablation. An esophageal catheter is used to prevent or suppress damage to the esophagus during atrial fibrillation ablation (hereinafter "prevention or suppression" is simply referred to as "prevention"). An esophageal catheter is inserted through the patient's nose and into the esophagus. Such esophageal catheters are described in Patent Documents 1 and 2 and the like.
The esophageal catheter is equipped with a temperature sensor, and the medical staff prevents overheating of the esophagus by stopping the power supply to the ablation catheter according to the temperature inside the esophagus measured by the esophageal catheter. Additional measures, such as giving the patient water to drink, are also taken based on the temperature measured by the esophageal catheter.
In addition, the esophageal catheter is used not only during high-frequency ablation of the myocardium, but also during cryo-coagulation necrosis of the myocardium during cryoablation, and based on the measured temperature, it prevents damage to the esophagus due to excessive cooling. It is designed to
By the way, in order to prevent damage to the esophagus due to ablation, the esophageal temperature should be lowered (in the case of high-frequency ablation) or raised (in the case of cryoablation) from that temperature as quickly as possible before it reaches a dangerous temperature. is required. Therefore, it is important to measure esophageal temperature as accurately as possible.
However, since the esophageal catheter is thinner than the esophagus (generally about 1/5 the esophageal thickness), the temperature sensor provided in the esophageal catheter is often not in contact with the esophageal wall. When the temperature sensor is in contact with the esophageal wall, the esophageal temperature can be measured accurately, but when the temperature sensor is not in contact with the esophageal wall, the esophageal temperature cannot be measured accurately. By the way, if the thickness of the esophageal catheter is close to the thickness of the esophagus, the temperature sensor is likely to come in contact with the esophageal wall, so it is thought that the esophageal temperature can be measured accurately. The esophageal catheter should be made as thin as possible in order to alleviate the patient's pain, and it is not realistic to increase the thickness of the esophageal catheter in order to accurately measure the esophageal temperature.
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above points, and provides an esophageal catheter with improved esophageal temperature measurement accuracy, and an esophageal catheter that accurately and quickly lowers or raises esophageal temperature to prevent esophageal damage due to ablation treatment. To provide a more preventive esophageal temperature control system.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

<Structure of Esophageal Catheter>
FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram for explaining the configuration of the
The
Furthermore, a balloon expansion/
Injection/
The
Although the temperature sensors are provided inside the
As described above, in the

<Operation of Embodiment>
Next, operation of the embodiment will be described. Since this embodiment is characterized by the operation of the
During ablation treatment, an
The
Next, when the medical staff operates a predetermined operating section provided on the
In this state, a medical worker performs ablation treatment using an ablation catheter. The temperature of the esophagus at this time is measured by the
If the medical practitioner determines that the esophageal temperature has risen too much, the ablation treatment is discontinued. In addition, when the medical staff operates a predetermined operation unit provided on the
The cooling water ejected from the
In this embodiment, since the cooling water is blocked by the
Furthermore, the
Thus, the
Here, the case of lowering the temperature of the esophagus with cooling water when the esophagus is overheated by high-frequency ablation treatment has been described. In this case, the temperature of the esophagus can be rapidly raised, and damage to the esophagus due to overcooling can be prevented.
After the ablation treatment is completed, when the medical staff operates a predetermined operating section provided on the
As described above, according to the present embodiment, the catheter
<Other embodiments>
The above-described embodiments are merely examples of specific implementations of the present invention, and the technical scope of the present invention should not be construed to be limited by these. That is, the present invention can be embodied in various forms without departing from its spirit or essential characteristics.
The
Instead of attaching the
In addition, in the above-described embodiments, the
Further, in the above embodiment, the case where the
For example, temperature sensors may be provided on the surface of
In the above-described embodiment, the two
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the
In addition, in the above-described embodiment, the first and second expansion members (
