Description
The present invention relates to a photodetector and a laser device including the photodetector.
Fiber laser devices are used in various fields such as laser processing fields and medical fields because they have excellent light-collecting properties, high power density, and can obtain light that becomes a small beam spot. In order to achieve good processing quality with such a highly efficient laser device, it is required to accurately detect the intensity of light propagating in the optical fiber.
For example,
The fiber laser device described in
Further, since the sensor unit described in
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an optical detection device capable of improving the detection accuracy of the intensity of each light propagating in both directions of an optical fiber, and a laser device including the light detection device.
In order to solve the above problems, the optical detection device of the present invention includes a first optical fiber having a first core and a first clad surrounding the first core, a second core connected to the first core, and the first core. A second optical fiber having a second clad surrounding the two cores, a first clad mode stripper provided outside the first clad, and one side of the first clad mode stripper in the longitudinal direction of the first optical fiber. A first light detection unit that is arranged to detect Rayleigh scattering of light propagating through the first optical fiber, and the first one that is arranged on the other side of the first clad mode stripper in the longitudinal direction of the first optical fiber. A second light detection unit for detecting Rayleigh scattering of light propagating through the optical fiber or the second optical fiber is provided, and the diameter of the first core and the diameter of the second core are equal to each other, and the second core is equal to each other. Is characterized in that it propagates light in a higher-order mode than the light propagating in the first core.
In general, the high-order mode light tends to have higher energy at a position outside the center of the core than the low-order mode light, and therefore tends to become clad mode light at the connection portion between the optical fibers. In the photodetector of the present invention, the second core propagates light in a higher-order mode than the light propagating in the first core. Therefore, the light propagating from the second core to the first core side becomes clad mode light at the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber as compared with the light propagating from the first core to the second core side. easy. In this way, at least a part of the light that becomes the clad mode light and propagates through the first clad is emitted to the outside of the first optical fiber in the first clad mode stripper. Therefore, the detection result of the first photodetector arranged on one side of the first clad mode stripper in the longitudinal direction of the first optical fiber and the detection result of the second photodetector arranged on the other side are at least the first. There is a difference in the amount of light emitted by the 1-clad mode stripper. The magnitude of this difference depends on at least the intensity of the light propagating from the second core to the first core side. Therefore, the intensity of the light propagating from the second core to the first core side can be estimated by using the difference between the detection result in the first photodetector and the detection result in the second photodetector. Further, in the above-mentioned optical detection device of the present invention, the first optical detection unit detects Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in both directions in the first optical fiber, and the second optical detection unit detects the first optical fiber or the second optical fiber. Detects Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in both directions. Here, by estimating the intensity of the light propagating from the second core to the first core side as described above, the first to second cores are obtained from the detection results of the first photodetector or the second photodetector. The intensity of the light propagating to the core side can also be estimated. Further, in the above-mentioned photodetector of the present invention, the first photodetector and the second photodetector each detect Rayleigh scattering. Therefore, it is estimated from the detection result and the detection result even when the intensity of the light propagating in the optical fiber is stronger than the case where the leaked light is detected as in the case of the fiber laser device described in
Further, the second optical fiber is arranged on the downstream side of the first optical fiber in the propagation direction of the light from the light source that emits the light propagating through the first optical fiber, and the first optical detection unit is arranged. The second light detection unit is located upstream of the first clad mode stripper in the propagation direction of light from the light source, and the second light detection unit is downstream of the first clad mode stripper in the propagation direction of light from the light source. It is preferable to be arranged in.
In the following, the upstream side in the propagation direction of light from the light source may be simply referred to as the upstream side, and the downstream side in the propagation direction of light from the light source may be simply referred to as the downstream side. Further, the direction from the upstream side to the downstream side may be referred to as a forward direction, and the direction from the downstream side to the upstream side may be referred to as a reverse direction.
By arranging the second optical fiber that propagates the light of the higher order mode than the first optical fiber on the downstream side of the first optical fiber, the light propagating from the first optical fiber to the second optical fiber side is emitted. It is suitable when light in a low-order mode such as a basic mode is emitted from a light source. By arranging the second optical fiber downstream of the first optical fiber, the low-order mode light emitted from the light source can be propagated from the first optical fiber to the second optical fiber with low loss. On the other hand, the reflected light propagating in the direction opposite to the propagating direction of the light emitted from the light source tends to include the light of the higher order mode. Therefore, among the reflected light, the light in the higher order mode can be regarded as the clad mode light at the connection portion between the second optical fiber and the first optical fiber and emitted in the first clad mode stripper.
Further, it is preferable that the first optical fiber is a single mode fiber.
Since the first optical fiber is a single-mode fiber, the light that becomes multimode light and propagates from the second optical fiber to the first optical fiber is at the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber. It becomes easier to become clad mode light. Therefore, the above difference between the detection result of the first photodetector and the detection result of the second photodetector tends to be large, and the detection accuracy of each light propagating in both directions of the optical fiber can be further improved.
Further, it is preferable that the second clad mode stripper is provided on the outside of the second clad.
If the clad mode light propagating from the second clad to the first clad side is not removed, at least a part of the clad mode light propagating from the second clad to the first clad side can propagate through the first clad. Therefore, by providing the second clad mode stripper on the second optical fiber as described above, the clad mode light propagating the second clad to the first clad side is reduced, and the first clad is referred to as the second clad. The clad mode light propagating to the opposite side can also be reduced. By reducing the clad mode light propagating through the first clad in this way, the influence of the clad mode light on the first photodetector is suppressed, and the light propagating through the first optical fiber by the first photodetector. Intensity can be detected more accurately. Further, when the clad mode light propagates the first clad to the second clad side, at least a part of the clad mode light can propagate the second clad to the opposite side to the first clad. By providing the second clad mode stripper as described above, the clad mode light propagating in the second clad can be reduced in this way.
Further, in the longitudinal direction of the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber, the first optical detection unit and the second optical detection unit sandwich the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber. Is arranged, and it is preferable that the second light detection unit detects Rayleigh scattering of light propagating through the second optical fiber.
In the photodetector of the present invention, in the first photodetector generated by removing the clad mode light generated at the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber by the first clad mode stripper as described above. The difference between the detection result and the detection result in the second photodetector is used. By the way, since there is a difference in the concentration of additives between the clad and the core, the ratio of Rayleigh scattering is different between the light propagating in the core and the light propagating in the clad. Therefore, it is preferable that the first photodetector and the second photodetector detect Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in either the core or the cladding, respectively. Here, since the second core propagates the light in the higher-order mode than the first core, the light propagating from the first core to the second core side propagates through the second core with the loss at the connection portion suppressed. do. On the other hand, at least a part of the light propagating from the second core to the first core side is incident on the first clad at the connection portion as described above. In this way, at least a part of the light incident on the first clad is emitted to the outside in the first clad mode stripper before the first photodetector. Therefore, by arranging the first light detection unit and the second light detection unit with the connection unit interposed therebetween, the first light detection unit mainly detects Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in the first core, and the second light detection unit is used. The light detection unit mainly detects Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in the second core. In this way, the first photodetector and the second photodetector mainly detect Rayleigh scattering of light propagating in the core, so that the detection accuracy of the intensity of each light propagating in both directions of the optical fiber is improved. Can be improved.
Further, it is preferable that the second photodetector is arranged on the side opposite to the first optical fiber side of the second clad mode stripper provided on the outside of the second clad.
By arranging the second photodetector and the second clad mode stripper in this way, at least a part of the clad mode light propagating the second clad to the side opposite to the first clad side is the second photodetector. In the foreground, it is discharged to the outside of the second optical fiber in the second clad mode stripper. Therefore, the second photodetector can more accurately detect the intensity of the light propagating in the second core.
Further, it is preferable that no dopant is added to the first core and the second core.
By not adding the dopant to the first core and the second core, it is possible to suppress an error in the detection results in the first photodetector and the second photodetector due to the concentration distribution of the dopant.
Further, from the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber to the first clad mode stripper, the first clad is coated with a low refractive index resin having a lower refractive index than the first clad. Is preferable.
By coating the first clad with the low refractive index resin in this way, the clad mode light generated at the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber is suppressed from leaking in the vicinity of the connection portion, and the first clad is prevented from leaking. It can propagate to one clad mode stripper. By suppressing the leakage of light in the vicinity of the connection portion in this way, heat generation in the vicinity of the connection portion can be suppressed, and a change in the amount of light loss in the connection portion can be suppressed. Therefore, the light intensity can be detected more accurately in the first photodetection unit and the second photodetection unit.
Further, it is preferable that the outer diameter of the first clad and the outer diameter of the second clad are equal to each other.
Since the outer diameter of the first clad and the outer diameter of the second clad are equal to each other, a non-uniform step is formed at the connection portion when the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber are fused and connected. Can be suppressed and bending at the connection can be suppressed. Therefore, the loss of light at the connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber can be suppressed.
Further, it is preferable to provide a mode scrambler unit for reducing the energy difference of the light of each mode propagating in the second core.
By providing a mode scrambler unit that scatters the propagating light in the core propagating the light in the multi-mode, it is possible to reduce the difference in the energy density distribution of the propagating light in the core. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the difference in the amount of loss due to the angle of the propagating light at the connection portion between the second core and the first core. Therefore, variations in the detection results in the first photodetection unit and the second photodetection unit can be suppressed.
Further, in order to solve the above problems, the laser apparatus of the present invention includes the optical detection apparatus and at least one light source that emits light propagating through the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber. It is a feature.
As described above, according to the photodetector of the present invention, it is possible to improve the detection accuracy of the intensity of each light propagating in both directions of the optical fiber. Therefore, according to the laser device including the photodetector, the accuracy of control based on the intensity of the light propagating in the optical fiber can be improved.
As described above, according to the present invention, there is provided a light detection device capable of improving the detection accuracy of the intensity of each light propagating in both directions of an optical fiber, and a laser device including the light detection device.

Next, the operation and operation of the
First, when the excitation light is emitted from each of the
M2=Pf+Pr ・・・(1)
The light emitted from the
M2 = Pf + Pr ... (1)
M1=Pf+αPr ・・・(2)
Further, the light returning to the second
M1 = Pf + αPr ・ ・ ・ (2)
Pr=(M2-M1)/(1-α) ・・・(3)
Pf=(αM2-M1)/(α-1) ・・・(4)
The detection results in the
Pr = (M2-M1) / (1-α) ... (3)
Pf = (αM2-M1) / (α-1) ... (4)
M1=Pf+γPr ・・・(5)
M2=βPf+Pr ・・・(6)
Further, when considering the connection loss of light propagating in both directions at the connection portion between the
M1 = Pf + γPr ... (5)
M2 = βPf + Pr ・ ・ ・ (6)
Pr=(γM2-M1)/(γβ-1) ・・・(7)
Pf=(βM1-M2)/(γβ-1) ・・・(8)
Then, from the above equations (5) and (6), the intensity Pf of the light propagating in the forward direction of the
Pr = (γM2-M1) / (γβ-1) ... (7)
Pf = (βM1-M2) / (γβ-1) ... (8)
The β and γ can be obtained by conducting a test in which light is propagated in the forward and reverse directions to the first
After the
As described above, in the
Further, in the
Further, in the
Further, in the
Further, in the
Further, the
Although the present invention has been described above by exemplifying embodiments, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, in the above embodiment, the second
Further, in the above embodiment, the example in which the second
Further, as shown in FIG. 3, another
Further, in the above embodiment, the first
Further, in the above embodiment, it has been described that the
Further, in the above embodiment, an example in which the outer diameter of the first clad 12 and the outer diameter of the second clad 22 are equal to each other has been described, but the outer diameter of the first clad 12 and the outer diameter of the second clad 22 have been described. May be different from each other. However, since the outer diameter of the first clad 12 and the outer diameter of the second clad 22 are equal to each other, the loss of light at the
Further, in the above embodiment, an example in which a dopant is not added to the
Further, in the above embodiment, the
光源5がファイバレーザ装置とされる場合、MO-PA(Master Oscillator Power Amplifier)型のファイバレーザ装置であってもよい。
Further, in the above embodiment, the
As described above, the present invention provides an optical detection device and a laser device capable of improving the detection accuracy of light propagating in both directions of an optical fiber, and is used in fields such as a fiber laser device and an optical fiber communication.
