Description
The present invention relates to a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material that can exhibit its performance particularly when used in a high-temperature environment, and more particularly to a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material having a high shear modulus. Related to a coil spring.
Coil springs are used as mechanical elements in various machines, devices, and mechanisms. Today, coil springs are indispensable and important components in household goods, industrial goods, and other fields.
Conventionally, coil springs are generally manufactured from a metal material, and stainless steel, low alloy steel, tool steel, titanium alloy, and the like have been mainly used. However, a coil spring made of a metal material has poor heat resistance and cannot exhibit sufficient spring characteristics in a high-temperature use environment, and therefore cannot be used or cannot be used for a long time.
For example, even if a coil spring is made of a material called a heat-resistant alloy, at a temperature exceeding 400 ° C., the strength is significantly reduced and deformed, and a sharp settling phenomenon occurs. Could not be used as.
When a coil spring is used at an environmental temperature exceeding 400 ° C., a coil spring may be manufactured using a super heat-resistant alloy such as Inconel or Hastelloy. At a temperature exceeding ℃, the strength is significantly reduced and the deformation is remarkable, and a sharp settling phenomenon occurs. Therefore, it cannot be used as a spring in such a high temperature environment.
Furthermore, coil springs have been manufactured using ceramics such as silicon nitride and zirconia instead of super heat-resistant alloys such as Inconel and Hastelloy, but such ceramic coil springs originally have low toughness, Since it is also vulnerable to thermal shock, there is a high possibility that it will be destroyed when used repeatedly in a high temperature environment. Further, at a high temperature exceeding 500 to 1000 ° C., the strength may be suddenly reduced, which may lead to breakage.
In order to solve such a problem, a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material (also referred to as a C / C composite) has been manufactured (see Patent Document 1). A carbon / carbon composite material (also referred to as a C / C composite) is a fiber reinforced composite material in which carbon fibers, which are reinforcing fibers, are solidified with graphite or a carbon matrix, and is several times as large as conventional carbon materials or graphite materials. It has excellent strength, elasticity, heat resistance, wear resistance and toughness, so it can be used for aircraft, racing cars, Shinkansen vehicles, large heavy vehicles, etc. These materials have been used for brakes, structural materials in furnaces of heat treatment furnaces, trays, heaters, product handling forks in semiconductor manufacturing furnaces and solar cell manufacturing furnaces, high-temperature jigs for metal working, and the like.
Patent Document 1 discloses a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material, for example,
(1) The preformed yarn as a raw material is made into a yarn shape, a tape shape or a sheet shape,
(2) The preformed yarn is wound around a core rod, which is a mold, together with a gap maintaining coil material (mold), and the raw material preformed yarn and the coil material (mold) are alternately arranged;
(3) Molding at about 300-2000 ° C under normal pressure or pressure by hot press,
(4) Remove the coil material (mold) from the molded product,
(5) It is manufactured by carbonizing at 700 to 1200 ° C. as necessary and then graphitizing at 1500 to 3000 ° C.
Since the coil spring made of the carbon / carbon composite material disclosed in Patent Document 1 employs the above-described manufacturing method, the carbon fiber that is the reinforcing fiber of the carbon / carbon composite material follows the spiral shape of the coil spring. Thus, it was composed of a carbon / carbon composite material as a so-called unidirectional reinforcing material oriented only in the longitudinal direction of the helix.
As described above, in the case of the unidirectional reinforced carbon / carbon composite material oriented only in the longitudinal direction of the spiral along the spiral shape of the coil spring, the strength and the elastic modulus (in the coil spring, Has a particularly important shear elastic modulus), but has a low shear elastic modulus as a coil spring supporting a large load, and thus cannot be said to have fulfilled a sufficient function.
The present invention has been made in view of the technical background as described above, and is a coil spring that can be used repeatedly even in a high temperature environment exceeding 1000 ° C., and has a high shear modulus capable of supporting a large load. It is an object to provide a coil spring having the following.
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present inventors have conducted intensive research and have found that, in a flat carbon / carbon composite material, a carbon fiber as a reinforcing material is aligned in one direction in a flat in-plane direction. Compared with reinforced carbon / carbon composite materials, short fibers are used as carbon fibers, and the in-plane shear modulus of the randomly oriented carbon / carbon composite material in which the carbon fibers are randomly oriented in the plane is dramatically improved. This led to the present invention.
That is, in the invention according to the first aspect, a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material spirally wound a plurality of times on a cylindrical surface, wherein a short fiber is used as a carbon fiber as a reinforcing material, Is a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material having a configuration randomly oriented along a cylindrical surface.

In the present invention, the coil spring made of the carbon / carbon composite material having the above-described configuration is a coil spring that can be used repeatedly even in a high-temperature environment exceeding 1000 ° C. and can support a large load. It has become possible to provide a coil spring having a high shear modulus.

In addition, the binder used in the present embodiment is used to adhere the binder pitch powder and the coke powder together with the binder pitch powder, the coke powder, and the mixture of the binder to the carbon fiber by adhesive bonding. Things. As the binder, those which are industrially used as thickeners (or pastes) such as methylcellulose can be used, and natural-derived thickeners and chemically synthesized thickeners can be used. Any of the stabilizers can be used.
An organic solvent such as alcohol or water can be used as a dispersion to be added to the mixture of the binder pitch powder, the coke powder, and the binder. Further, the volume content of the carbon fiber is preferably 5 to 70% by volume, and more preferably 20 to 60% by volume, based on the total volume of the intermediate material.
The sheet-like intermediate material used in the present embodiment is manufactured through the following steps.
(1) A step of forming a mixed solution by mixing a binder pitch powder, a coke powder, a binder, and a dispersion at a predetermined compounding ratio.
(2) a step of putting the mixed solution and a predetermined amount of short fibrous carbon fibers in a mixing tank and stirring the mixture to uniformly disperse the short fibrous carbon fibers in the mixed solution.
(3) A step of pressure-feeding a mixed solution in which short fibrous carbon fibers are dispersed and mixed from a mixing tank to a papermaking apparatus, which is a known technique, to perform papermaking processing.
In the sheet-like intermediate material thus obtained, the short fibrous carbon fibers are randomly oriented in the sheet surface, and are arranged in a nonwoven fabric in a state of being entangled with each other. Then, the continuous sheet-like nonwoven fabric composed of the short fibrous carbon fibers and the binder pitch powder, coke powder, and the binder disposed around the short fibrous carbon fibers is bonded to the cohesion mixed in the mixed solution. It has a certain tackiness depending on the agent.
Next, a method of manufacturing a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material using the sheet-like intermediate material described above will be described.
First, the sheet-like intermediate material manufactured by the above-described method is cut into a tape shape.
As a mold for forming the coil spring, a mold in which a helical projection for maintaining a gap between coils is attached to the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical core mold is used. That is, the mold forming the coil spring is cylindrical, and a groove forming the coil spring is spirally provided on the outer peripheral surface.
A tape-shaped intermediate material cut in accordance with the groove width is wound around a groove provided on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold. Therefore, in the groove provided on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold, the tape-shaped intermediate material is arranged in a state where a plurality of layers are stacked.
The die around which the tape-shaped intermediate material is wound is fired by hot pressing at about 300 to 2000 ° C. under normal pressure to 500 kg / cm 2 . After the firing under pressure, the coil-shaped molded product is removed from the core mold and the helical projection, and then carbonized at 700 to 1200 ° C. and graphitized at 1500 to 3000 ° C. as necessary to obtain the carbon / carbon of the present invention. Obtain a coil spring made of composite material.
In the carbon / carbon composite coil spring manufactured by the method described above, the short fiber carbon fibers are randomly oriented two-dimensionally along the cylindrical surface formed by the coil spring, A plurality of layers in which fiber carbon fibers are randomly oriented are stacked in the radial direction of the cylindrical surface (see FIG. 2).
In the table, PAN represents PAN-based carbon fibers, and Pitch represents pitch-based carbon fibers. Further, b / h indicates a value obtained by dividing the width b (strength in the reinforcing direction) of the wire of the coil spring by the thickness h (radial thickness) h of the wire.
As can be seen from Table 1, in the coil spring made of the carbon / carbon composite material according to the present invention, the one using Pitch carbon fiber has a somewhat higher shear modulus than the one using PAN carbon fiber. However, it can be seen that the shear elastic modulus of the coil spring in which the orientation of the carbon fibers is randomly oriented is significantly higher than that of the coil spring in which the carbon fibers are unidirectionally strengthened.
In addition, it can be seen that as the strand cross-sectional shape b / h increases, the shear modulus tends to increase.
As can be seen from the results shown in Table 1, the coil spring made of the carbon / carbon composite material according to the present invention has a shear modulus of 7 GPa or more. It can be seen that the shear modulus is dramatically improved as compared with the shear modulus of 4.8 to 5.3 GPa.
In addition, the coil spring made of the carbon / carbon composite material according to the present invention has a shear modulus of 7 to 15 GPa within the range of the practical wire cross-sectional shape b / h.
In the description of the above embodiment, a coil spring made of a carbon / carbon composite material is used by using a sheet-like intermediate material composed of short fibrous carbon fibers, binder pitch powder, coke powder, and a binder. Although the method of manufacturing No. 1 has been described, the present invention is not limited to such a manufacturing method.
If a short fiber is used as the carbon fiber that is the reinforcing material, and the production method is such that the short fiber carbon fiber is randomly oriented along the cylindrical surface, an intermediate material having a configuration different from that described above is used. May be used, or it may be manufactured by a resin method or a CVD method.
