Description
The present invention relates to estimation of the state of a heater.
The glow plug has a heater including a heating element and a base body that holds the heating element therein, and is used as an auxiliary heat source for an internal combustion engine (for example, a diesel engine) using a compression ignition system. As the glow plug is used at a high temperature, abnormalities such as cracks may occur in the heating element. Such an abnormality increases the resistance value of the heating element and makes it difficult for the heater temperature to rise, so that the startability of the engine may deteriorate or the soot component in the exhaust gas may increase.
The resistance value of the heating element when an abnormality occurs in the heating element increases only slightly compared to the resistance value in a normal state. For this reason, in the technique of

The
The

FIG. 2 is a partial cross-sectional view showing a detailed configuration of the
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
The
The

The

As shown in FIG. 2, the
In the present embodiment, the energizing
A-2. Detection of substrate electrical resistance:
As shown in FIG. 1, since the
Since the
Incidentally, the
Therefore, in the detection of the substrate resistance value R 11 , the current flowing outside the
If the assumption of the above, the substrate resistance R 11 is determined by the following equation (5). In the following formulas (1) to (5), V 11 is a potential difference between the
R11=V11/I ・・・(1)
V11=V0−V521 ・・・(2)
I=V521/R521 ・・・(3)
R11=(V0−V521)/(V521/R521) ・・・(4)
R11=V0×R521/V521 ・・・(5)
R 11 = V 11 / I (1)
V 11 = V 0 −V 521 (2)
I = V 521 / R 521 (3)
Substituting Equation (2) and Equation (3) into Equation (1) yields Equation (4).
R 11 = (V 0 −V 521 ) / (V 521 / R 521 ) (4)
In this embodiment, since V 521 << V 0 , Equation (4) is transformed into Equation (5).
R 11 = V 0 × R 521 / V 521 (5)
FIG. 4 is a graph showing the relationship between the substrate resistance value R 11 and the temperature of the
When an abnormality such as a crack occurs in the
On the other hand, when the
FIG. 5 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of the substrate resistance value R 11 depending on the state of the
As shown in FIG. 5, the temperature of the

The
Reference range of the base resistance R 11 is set based on the acquired in advance by experimental data. For example, the reference range of the base resistance value R 11 of the
If the substrate resistance R 11 is determined to exceed the reference range (step S115: YES), the
If the substrate resistance R 11 is determined to be below the reference range (step S125: YES), the
On the other hand, the base resistance R 11 is when it is determined not to fall below the reference range: for (step S125 NO), the base resistance R 11 is within the reference range, the

In the
Detection of the base resistance R 11 is preferably carried out at a substantially constant conditions. In the

B. Comparative example:
FIG. 7 is a graph showing the relationship between the electrical resistance value of the
