Conventionally, various methods have been used as a recording method for forming an image on a recording medium such as paper based on an image data signal. Among these, the ink jet system is an inexpensive apparatus, and ink is ejected only to a required image portion to form an image directly on a recording medium. Therefore, the ink can be used efficiently, and the running cost is low. Furthermore, the inkjet method is excellent as a recording method because of its low noise.

First, when the thickness of the cured film is relatively thin, oxygen inhibition is affected in the case of a radical polymerization reaction system, resulting in poor curability. Therefore, the film must be thickened to the extent that oxygen inhibition does not occur at the time of printing, resulting in a problem that the print image quality is deteriorated. On the other hand, when the thickness of the cured film is relatively large, the pigment has a strong tendency to absorb a part of the ultraviolet rays, so that the coating film discharged onto the recording medium is completely cured even when the ultraviolet rays are irradiated. Since the energy required for this is insufficient, the vicinity of the surface of the coating may be cured first, resulting in incomplete curing of the interior of the coating or may require time for curing. And when the uncured ink existing inside the coating film is cured, the vicinity of the previously cured surface is wrinkled, or the ink flows irregularly before the ink inside the coating film is cured. As a result, wrinkles (hereinafter also referred to as “cured wrinkles”) occur on the surface of the coated film after curing. Due to the cured wrinkles, there is a problem that the film properties of the coating film are inferior.

One embodiment of the present invention relates to an inkjet recording apparatus, that is, a printer. The recording apparatus uses an inkjet recording method described later. FIG. 1 is a schematic view of the vicinity of a recording area in one embodiment of a line printer.

Examples of printer types include line printers and serial printers.
These are different printer systems. Briefly speaking, the line printer has a line head having a length equal to or longer than the width of the recording medium, preferably a length corresponding to the width of the recording medium (recording medium width). The head is fixed without moving (almost) and printing is performed in one pass (single pass). On the other hand, a serial printer normally performs printing in two or more passes (multi-pass) while the head reciprocates (shuttle movement) in a direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction of the recording medium. In this embodiment, any type of printer can be used.

Among these, a line printer (line ink jet recording apparatus) forms an image only by scanning a recording medium once in a predetermined direction (hereinafter referred to as “conveying direction”), as will be described later. For this reason, the line printer is preferable because the printing speed is significantly higher than that of the serial printer. However, there is a problem that the ink discharge amount per pass is large and curing wrinkles are easily generated. Therefore, the present embodiment capable of preventing the occurrence of curing wrinkles exhibits a remarkable effect particularly for a line printer. Hereinafter, FIG.
A description will be given with reference to FIG.

The transport unit 20 is for transporting the recording medium S in the transport direction. As shown in FIG. 2, the transport unit 20 includes, for example, an upstream transport roller 23 </ b> A and a downstream transport roller 23 </ b> B, and a belt 24. When a transport motor (not shown) rotates, the upstream transport roller 23A and the downstream transport roller 23B rotate, and the belt 24 rotates. The recording medium S fed by a paper feed roller (not shown) is conveyed by the belt 24 to a recordable area (area facing the head). As the belt 24 transports the recording medium S, the recording medium S moves in the transport direction with respect to the head unit 30. The recording medium S that has passed through the recordable area is discharged to the outside by the belt 24.
Note that the recording medium S being conveyed is electrostatically attracted or vacuum attracted to the belt 24. In addition, although the term “paper feeding” is used here for convenience, a recording medium described later can be used as the recording medium in the present embodiment.

The first irradiation units 42a to 42e irradiate ultraviolet rays for temporarily curing the dots formed on the recording medium. The first irradiation units 42a to 42e are disposed in front of the second irradiation unit 44 where curing is performed, that is, upstream in the transport direction. To position. Here, “temporary curing” is also referred to as pinning, which means temporary fixing of ink, and more specifically, curing for preventing bleeding between dots and controlling the dot diameter. Therefore, at least a part of the dots (droplets), for example, the dot surface only needs to be cured.
In the following, in order to distinguish from temporary curing, the final curing, that is, curing by irradiating ultraviolet rays from an ultraviolet light emitting diode (UV-LED) having an irradiation peak intensity of 800 mW / cm 2 or more is referred to as “main”. Also called “curing”.

It is possible to easily change the irradiation energy. The UV-LED is a type having a condensing lens (hereinafter also referred to as “LED with lens”), and the irradiation energy is maintained by condensing and irradiating a limited irradiation region from the LED with lens. However, spot irradiation can be performed with a higher irradiation peak intensity.
Hereinafter, the LED with lens will be described. FIG. 3 shows a U with lens in the first irradiation unit.

The UV-LED 72 includes a UV-LED chip 72a and a condenser lens 72 that emit ultraviolet rays.
The ultraviolet ray emitted from the UV-LED chip 72a is mainly composed of b, and the condenser lens 7
The light is condensed by 2b to form a constant irradiation angle, and is irradiated toward the lower side of the first irradiation unit. The condensing lens 72b is a package that covers the UV-LED chip 72a, and includes a lens whose surface is formed in a hemispherical shape and a cover that protects the surface, and hemispherical ultraviolet light emitted from the UV-LED chip 72a. The light is condensed toward the center line. The material for the lens and the cover is not limited to the following, but for example, a transparent resin such as glass, silicon resin, and silicon rubber can be used. The structure of the lens is not limited to that described above, and any lens that can collect light may be used. For example, the lens is not molded into a hemisphere integrally with a package, but a separate hemispherical lens is attached. It may be a thing. The UV-LED chip 72a included in the irradiation unit 40 has a supply current value controlled by a UV-LED driving circuit (not shown) controlled by the controller 60, and can be switched between an on state and an off state instantaneously. Then, it is possible to irradiate ultraviolet rays having an irradiation intensity necessary for temporarily curing the uncured ultraviolet curable ink attached to the recording medium S.
And many UV-LEDs are arranged in a line in the width direction and the transport direction of the recording medium S,
Each 1st irradiation part is comprised. Positioning the UV-LEDs arranged in a line in the transport direction of the recording medium S between the width directions of the UV-LEDs arranged in a line in the width direction of the recording medium S is UV-LE.
It is preferable in that the condensed irradiation region of D can be evenly dispersed in the width direction of the transport direction.

The 2nd irradiation part 44 of this embodiment is equipped with UV-LED as a light source of ultraviolet irradiation.
Since the UV-LED has been described in the first irradiation units 42a to 42e, the description thereof is omitted here. Here, lamps such as metal halide lamps, xenon lamps, carbon arc lamps, chemical lamps, low-pressure mercury lamps, and high-pressure mercury lamps can also be used as the light source. However, the irradiation with the lamp has a light emission wavelength up to a short wavelength, so that the inside is irradiated and no curing wrinkle is generated, while the heat generation and size of the light source (including a cooling device).
Problems arise in various respects, such as power consumption, lifetime, and cost of the irradiator. further,
The UV-LED is extremely superior in that it is small in size, has a long life, generates little heat, has high efficiency, and is low in cost as compared with the lamp.
The irradiation energy of the main curing by the second irradiation unit 44, the emission peak wavelength, and the irradiation peak intensity will be described later.

In the recording apparatus according to the sixth modification, an input current to at least one of the first irradiation units 42a to 42e and the second irradiation unit 44 is turned on and off by a UV-LED drive circuit (not shown). Are repeatedly switched to a pulse current to perform ultraviolet pulse irradiation (hereinafter, the LED is also referred to as “pulse irradiation LED”). As a driving circuit for the pulse irradiation LED, a MOFSET circuit for performing PWM control can be used. FIG. 5A is a waveform diagram of a current passed through the UV-LED in the printer according to the present embodiment when ultraviolet pulse irradiation is not performed. FIG. 5B is a waveform diagram of a pulse current that flows through the UV-LED in the printer of this embodiment in the case of performing pulsed irradiation of ultraviolet rays. In the case of a pulse current, the input current is a peak input current that is a current at the peak of the pulse. The total amount of power input to the UV-LED is calculated by the following mathematical formula.

総電力量=入力電圧×T1×Duty比

Total power amount = input voltage × T1 × Duty ratio In the above formula, the irradiation time (T1) to the recording medium is the time from the start of irradiation to the recording medium to the end of irradiation. The duty ratio is a value represented by the following formula when the pulse is driven for one period.

Duty ratio = duration when the current is on / (duration when the current is on + duration when the current is off) The duty ratio in the case of an LED that does not perform pulse irradiation is 1. The duty ratio in the case of performing pulse irradiation may be 0.5, for example, and the pulse frequency may be 1 kHz, for example. The heat generation of the UV-LED generally increases as the total amount of power increases.

In general, the irradiation peak intensity of the UV-LED increases as the input current increases. By performing pulse irradiation as shown in FIG. 5b, the irradiation peak intensity can be further increased while maintaining the total input current amount when the time T1 from the start of irradiation to the end of irradiation is fixed. it can. Thus, since pulse irradiation LED increases an irradiation peak intensity | strength efficiently, it is especially suitable for using with the 2nd irradiation part 44 for which bigger irradiation peak intensity is required. Pulse irradiation LED may be used also in the 1st irradiation parts 42a-42e, and when performing this hardening instead of temporary hardening, it is preferable that the said 1st irradiation part also uses pulse irradiation LED.

Irradiation energy = irradiation peak intensity × T1 × Duty ratio Therefore, when T1 is fixed, the peak intensity can be increased while maintaining the same irradiation energy of the LED in the case where the pulse irradiation is not performed, or The irradiation energy of the LED can be reduced while maintaining the same peak intensity.

Alternatively, the ink may be discharged without heating the ink at room temperature or without heating the ink as long as it is as described above. On the other hand, the ink may be discharged at a predetermined value by heating the ink to a predetermined temperature. In this way, good discharge stability is realized.

Since the ultraviolet curable ink has a higher viscosity than the water-based ink used in a normal inkjet ink, the viscosity fluctuation due to the temperature fluctuation during ejection is large. The viscosity variation of such ink is
A large influence is exerted on the change of the droplet size and the change of the droplet discharge speed, and as a result, the image quality can be deteriorated. Therefore, it is preferable to keep the temperature of the ink during ejection as constant as possible.

[Curing process]
Next, in the curing step, the ink ejected onto the recording medium is transferred to the second irradiation unit 44.
In the case where the main curing is performed instead of the temporary curing, the first irradiation units 42a to 42e are cured by irradiation with ultraviolet rays (light). In other words, the ink coating film formed on the recording medium is
A cured film is formed by irradiation with ultraviolet rays. This is because the photopolymerization initiator that can be contained in the ink is decomposed by irradiation with ultraviolet rays to generate starting species such as radicals, acids, and bases, and the polymerization reaction of the photopolymerizable compound depends on the function of the starting species. It is to be promoted. Or it is because the photopolymerization reaction of a polymeric compound starts by irradiation of an ultraviolet-ray. At this time, if a sensitizing dye is present together with the photopolymerization initiator in the ink, the sensitizing dye in the system absorbs active ultraviolet rays to be in an excited state and contacts the photopolymerization initiator to decompose the photopolymerization initiator. It can be accelerated and a more sensitive curing reaction can be achieved.

Peak intensity of ultraviolet rays irradiated by the (irradiated peak intensity) is a 800 mW / cm 2 or more, preferably 1,000 mW / cm 2 or more. When the irradiation peak intensity is within the above range, the curability is excellent and the generation of curing wrinkles can be effectively prevented. More specifically, it effectively prevents the surface of the ink coating from being cured first and curing wrinkles as a result of the internal curing of the ink coating being delayed compared to the surface curing. Can do.

The irradiation peak intensity will be further described. An LED has a narrow emission wavelength range due to its characteristics. Among them, a long wavelength LED having an emission peak wavelength in the range of 360 to 420 nm as described above is inexpensive, but has only a limited emission wavelength range of a long wavelength. Therefore, it is difficult for the irradiated ultraviolet rays to reach the inside of the ink droplets that have landed on the recording medium, and only the surface of the ink coating film is cured first. Therefore, there is a tendency for hardened wrinkles to occur. Thus, the present inventors have found that by setting the irradiation peak intensity to 800 mW / cm 2 or more, curing wrinkles can be reduced even when a long wavelength LED is used. On the other hand, an ultraviolet curable ink containing a vinyl ether group-containing (meth) acrylic acid ester represented by the following general formula (I) as a polymerizable compound has a high curing rate.
A large curing rate can also be obtained by ultraviolet irradiation from a light source having a limited emission peak wavelength such as ED. However, when the ink is used, there is a problem that curing wrinkles are likely to occur. Even when such an ink is used, the irradiation peak intensity is 80.
The inventors of the present application have also found that, by setting it to 0 mW / cm 2 or more, it is possible to obtain a high-quality recorded product having excellent curability and no cured wrinkles. When such an ink is used and the irradiation peak intensity is small, the cause of curing wrinkles is that such an ink has a fast curing speed on the surface of the coating film, but has a perfect effect inside the coating film. Presumed to be slow. But the cause is not limited to this.

When the irradiation peak intensity, irradiation energy, and emission peak wavelength described above are within preferable ranges, curing at low energy and high speed is possible due to the composition of the ink described later. Further, the irradiation time can be shortened by the composition of the ink described later, and in this case, the printing speed is increased. On the other hand, the irradiation peak intensity can be reduced by the composition of the ink, which will be described later. In this case, the apparatus can be downsized and the cost can be reduced.

In addition, the irradiation peak intensity | strength of each Example mentioned later was adjusted by changing the input current of a LED element, and was measured by the distance from a light emission surface to a recording medium. The irradiation energy is a value calculated from the product of the irradiation peak intensity [mW / cm 2 ] and the irradiation time [s]. Each of the irradiation units 42 and 44 keeps irradiating during printing, and an irradiation region in which one point of the irradiated surface of the recording medium conveyed under the irradiation unit is irradiated by the irradiation unit. The irradiation continuation time at the time of passing was set as irradiation time T1. The irradiation time T1 was adjusted by changing the number of light emitted from the plurality of UV-LEDs arranged in the recording medium conveyance direction in the irradiation unit as necessary. Other unit heads and irradiation units were not used.

From the above results, the ultraviolet curable ink containing a predetermined vinyl ether group-containing (meth) acrylic acid ester is excellent in curability, and includes a discharge step including discharging the ink onto a recording medium, and the recording target. The above ink landed on the medium has an irradiation peak intensity of 800 mW / c.
The recording method (each example) including a curing step including curing the ink by irradiating ultraviolet rays from an ultraviolet light emitting diode of m 2 or more, compared with a recording method (each comparative example) that is not so, It was clarified that the curability is excellent, the curing wrinkles can be effectively prevented, and the abrasion resistance, ejection stability, and bleed resistance are also improved.

Consider the above results. From Comparative Example 1, when the result of curing wrinkles is bad,
It is presumed that the abrasion resistance tends to be poor. From Example 5 and Comparative Example 2, it is estimated that even when the second irradiation is performed, the result of curing wrinkles is affected when the irradiation peak intensity in the first irradiation is less than 800 mW / cm 2 . The reason why the result of the bleed resistance in Comparative Example 5 is poor is presumed to be because the curing by the first irradiation is slow. From Comparative Examples 3, 7, 8, and 11, the predetermined vinyl ether group-containing (meth) acrylic acid esters contained in the ink have excellent curability and increase the curing speed. It is presumed that the bleed resistance is also good, and the ink contains a predetermined vinyl ether group (meta)
Even when acrylates are not included, it is assumed that curing wrinkles will be improved if the irradiation energy is increased to improve the printing curability. Note that Comparative Example 11 is not preferable because the number of UV-LEDs arranged in the transport direction of the irradiation unit 42b needs to be very large, and the heat generation of the irradiation unit is increased due to the large number of UV-LEDs. Guessed.

Further, from Examples 3 and 11, when the irradiation peak intensity and irradiation energy of the first irradiation are very large, the viscosity of the ink in the nozzle is greatly reduced due to heat generation of the light source, and the ejection characteristics are changed. It is presumed that the ejection stability deteriorated due to the increased light leakage and the increased viscosity due to the polymerization of the ink at the nozzle. From Example 8, it is presumed that the bleed resistance tends to deteriorate when the first irradiation part does not perform irradiation. From Examples 9, 10, and 14, when the amount of the predetermined vinyl ether group-containing (meth) acrylic acid ester contained in the ink is large, curing wrinkles tend to occur slightly, while the irradiation peak intensity of the first irradiation It is presumed that generation of hardening wrinkles can be effectively prevented by making the diameter relatively large. When Example 1 and 11 are compared, when LED without a lens is used, it is estimated that it is necessary to increase the input current of the light source, and as a result, the heat generation increases, and thus the ejection stability tends to be inferior. From Examples 9 and 12, even if the LED is a lens-less LED, if the LED by pulse irradiation is used, the heat generation of the LED can be reduced by reducing the irradiation energy while increasing the irradiation peak wavelength, and the discharge stability is improved. It is estimated that it will be excellent. In addition, the inks 6 and 10 tend to be difficult to dissolve the initiator, and it is estimated that the ejection stability of Example 16 and Comparative Example 10 was inferior due to the precipitation of the initiator. The reason why the abrasion resistance of Example 18 is inferior is presumed to be that the abrasion resistance of the ink 8 is inferior.
