(1次成形工程)

例えば、容器内から鱗片状の竹粉を含むシート状物30を取出し(図3(C))、両面からプレス機22により圧縮して脱水する(図3(D))。脱水後のシート状物に水分が残留する場合は、乾燥させて残留水分を蒸発させることが好ましい。なお、シート状物の両面からプレスして脱水する際、プレスとともに加熱して乾燥させてもよい。
乾燥手段は特に限定されず、例えば、温風又は熱風を当ててもよいし、ヒータによって加熱してもよいし、高温又は低湿の乾燥室内に放置してもよいし、自然乾燥してもよい。
抄造法により形成した鱗片状の竹粉を含むシート状物から水分を除去することで1次成形体31を得ることができる(図3(E))。
図4は1次成形工程後の成形体を示しており、鱗片状の竹粉が厚さ方向に層状に重なっている。

脱水・乾燥後、所定の型に入れてホットプレスにより圧縮成形することで、強度が高まるとともに所望の形状に成形することができる。なお、2次成形工程を行う場合は、成形容易性及び強度の向上の観点から、竹粉分散液に、バインダー、好ましくは熱可塑性樹脂、より好ましくは熱可塑性の繊維状バインダーを予め含ませて竹粉とバインダーを含むシート状物を形成することが好ましい。
