Claims (11)
- シングルビュー・モードとマルチビュー・モードとの間で切替可能なマルチビュー表示装置であって、当該表示装置は、表示パネル、及び、前記表示パネルの表示出力側において前記表示パネル上に配置されるレンチキュラ・レンズ手段を有し、前記レンチキュラ・レンズ手段は、レンチキュラ・レンズ素子を定めるための切替不可の光学的に透明な層に隣接する複屈折性の電気光学材料を有するレンチキュラ・レンズ素子のアレイを有し、前記電気光学材料の屈折率は、前記表示装置の動作のシングルビュー・モード及びマルチビュー・モードを定めるように制御可能であり、
前記切替不可の光学的に透明な層は、前記複屈折性の電気光学材料の異常屈折率に実質的に等しい屈折率を有し、
前記表示パネルから出力されて前記レンチキュラ・レンズ手段に入射する光の偏光方向は直線であり、
シングルビュー・モードにおいて、前記複屈折性の電気光学材料は、その光学軸が、前記表示パネルから出力される光が前記複屈折性の電気光学材料に入る表面において前記表示パネルから出力される光の偏光方向である第1方向に整列され、前記切替不可の光学的に透明な層の表面において前記レンチキュラ・レンズ素子の長軸方向である第2方向に整列される第1状態であって、前記第2方向が前記第1方向に対してねじれている第1状態を定め、
マルチビュー・モードにおいて、前記複屈折性の電気光学材料は、前記複屈折性の電気光学材料の光学軸が、表示出力面に垂直に整列される第2状態を定める装置。 - 前記複屈折性の電気光学材料の屈折率が、当該電気光学材料の少なくとも一部への電場の選択的な印加によって切替可能である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記電気光学材料が、ツイステッド・ネマチック液晶材料を含む、請求項1又は請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記表示パネルが液晶表示パネルを含む、請求項1から請求項3のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記切替不可の光学的に透明な層が、複屈折材料を含む、請求項1から請求項4のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記切替不可の光学的に透明な層が、等方性材料を含む、請求項1から請求項4のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記表示パネルから出力される光の偏光の方向が、
表示カラム方向、
表示ロウ方向、又は
表示カラム及び表示ロウ方向に対して45度、
のいずれかである、請求項1から請求項6のいずれか一項に記載の装置。 - 前記表示パネルの出力側と前記レンチキュラ・レンズ手段との間に偏光子を有する、請求項1から請求項7のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 自動立体視表示装置であり、シングルビュー・モードが2Dモードであり、マルチビュー・モードが3Dモードである、請求項1から請求項8のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- デュアルビュー表示装置であり、シングルビュー・モードが、表示の全視野における2Dモードであり、マルチビュー・モードが、表示の全視野の異なる部分における2つの少なくとも部分的に分離された2Dモードを含む、請求項1から請求項8のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 請求項1から請求項10のいずれか一項に記載の切替可能なマルチビュー表示装置を制御する方法であって、
シングルビュー・モードにおいて、複屈折性の電気光学材料を切り替えられていない状態として、表示パネルから出力される光の偏光が直線であり、表示出力光が受け取られる表面において前記複屈折性の電気光学材料の光学軸が有する第1方向に整列され、前記光学軸が、前記切替不可の光学的に透明な層の表面において前記レンチキュラ・レンズ素子の長軸方向である第2方向に整列される第1状態であって、前記第2方向が前記第1方向に対してねじれており、
マルチビュー・モードにおいて、前記光学軸が表示出力面に垂直に整列される状態に、前記複屈折性の電気光学材料を切り替える、方法。
