Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing a solidified body of radioactive waste generated in a facility such as a nuclear power plant.
Cement, asphalt, plastic, glass, and the like are used as a solidifying material for solidifying radioactive waste in containers such as drums. Among them, the method of mixing cement and radioactive waste and solidifying it in a container is used as a standard solidification method in many nuclear facilities because it is relatively easy to process in nuclear facilities. .
However, since the solidification method using cement utilizes a reaction in which a hydrate is generated and hardened by a hydration reaction, when the radioactive concentration of the radioactive waste is increased, The added water is radiolyzed to generate hydrogen. When the generated hydrogen fills the container and exceeds the explosion limit concentration (4% in air), an explosion may occur. For this reason, in the cement solidification method, it is necessary to limit the generation amount of hydrogen by limiting the concentration or amount of radioactive waste mixed with cement. In other words, when radioactive waste with high radioactive concentration is solidified with cement, the amount of radioactive waste that can be stored in one container is limited, resulting in an increase in the number of containers used and radioactive waste. There is a problem that the transportation cost and disposal cost of goods increase.
As a method for solving this problem, it is conceivable to apply a vitrification method using glass containing no moisture as a solidification material. However, the vitrification method is a solidification method that requires advanced technology to mix radioactive waste with molten glass heated to 1200 ° C or higher and harden it in a container. It is more versatile and economical than the cement solidification method. Inferior.
Here, Patent Document 1 discloses a method for solidifying red mud in which a powder obtained by mixing red mud and ash is solidified by a geopolymer. Since the geopolymer does not use a hydration reaction, there is no water that is inseparably contained like a hydrate. Therefore, it is conceivable to solidify radioactive waste with geopolymer.
However, in the solidification method using the geopolymer of Patent Document 1, although there is no water that is inseparably contained like a hydrate, the water used during the production of the solidified body remains. Therefore, when radioactive waste is solidified with geopolymer, there is a problem in that water is generated from the solidified material by radiolysis as in the case of cement, and hydrogen is generated.
By heating the mixture of the geopolymer and the radioactive waste, the mixture can be solidified while removing moisture. Moreover, moisture can be sufficiently removed by heating at a high temperature. However, simply heating at a high temperature may cause the surface to harden densely first, leaving moisture in the mixture and causing the solidified body to explode due to its vapor pressure. Even if explosion does not occur, it becomes a solidified body with low strength.
On the other hand, moisture cannot be sufficiently removed by heating at a low temperature. Moreover, when solidifying over a long time at normal temperature, only the surface may solidify previously like the above. Thus, it is difficult to obtain a solidified body that satisfies both high strength and low water content.
This invention is made | formed in view of the said situation, The objective is to provide the manufacturing method of the solidified body of a radioactive waste of high intensity | strength and a low moisture content.
The present invention removes moisture from the mixing step of mixing the geopolymer and the radioactive waste, and heating the mixture of the geopolymer and the radioactive waste at a temperature of 100 ° C. to 150 ° C. Then, after the first heating step for solidifying the mixture and the first heating step, the mixture is heated at a temperature of 300 ° C. or higher and 400 ° C. or lower to further remove moisture from the mixture. A solidified body manufacturing method for radioactive waste comprising a second heating step.
According to the present invention, it is possible to prevent only the surface from solidifying first. In addition, water is sufficiently removed. As a result, moisture can be removed up to the inside of the solidified body. Thereby, the solidified body of the radioactive waste of high intensity | strength and a low moisture content can be obtained.
Hereinafter, modes for carrying out the present invention will be described.
The method for producing a solidified radioactive waste according to the present invention removes moisture by mixing a geopolymer and a radioactive waste and heating the resulting mixture at a temperature of 100 ° C. or higher and 150 ° C. or lower. A first heating step for solidifying the mixture while heating, and then a second heating step for further removing moisture from the mixture by heating the mixture at a temperature of 300 ° C. or higher and 400 ° C. or lower. It is a body manufacturing method.
In addition, mixing a geopolymer and a radioactive waste means mixing each material (water glass, alumina, etc.) and a radioactive waste of a geopolymer. Mixing is usually performed at room temperature. When the geopolymer and radioactive waste are mixed, a soft cream slurry is obtained.
(Geopolymer)
The geopolymer is one of inorganic polymers having a sodium silicate solution (water glass) as a monomer source.
This geopolymer is formed, for example, by mixing sodium silicate (Na 2 SiO 3 or the like), water (H 2 O), alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Water (H 2 O) is for dissolving sodium silicate into water glass (sodium silicate solution). Alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) is a binder that chemically bonds Si. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a reaction accelerator that accelerates the reaction by eluting aluminum contained in alumina into water glass.
Aluminum contained in Al 2 O 3 is eluted into water glass and polycondensates silicate monomer (SiO 4 ). Thereby, a Si-O-Al bond arises and the geopolymer which is an inorganic polymer is produced | generated. Specifically, a part of the water glass is hydrolyzed into silicic acid (metasilicic acid (H 2 SiO 3 ), etc.) and NaOH. NaOH produced by hydrolysis of water glass and hydroxide ions (OH − ) produced from NaOH added to water glass hydrate Al 2 O 3 (alumina) to form aluminum hydroxide (Al (OH 3 ) Change to 3 ) etc., and further solubilize to aluminate. By removing water (H 2 O) from the aluminate and silicic acid, a Si—O—Al bond is generated, and a geopolymer is produced. This geopolymer becomes a binder for solidifying radioactive waste.
Here, a polymer is a compound formed by polymerizing a plurality of monomers (monomer) (bonded to form a chain or network). Polycondensation means that a plurality of compounds are bonded (condensed) while removing small molecules such as water (H 2 O) from each other's molecule, and they are linked in a chain to form a polymer. . Water glass is a source of geopolymer monomer.
An example of a suitable composition of the geopolymer (geopolymer binder) used in the present invention will be described. The composition of geopolymer, by weight%, H 2 O: 15~60% , SiO 2: 15~40%, Na 2 O: 10~35%, Al 2 O 3: 5 to 20% geopolymer Contains inseparable impurities.
The composition of the geopolymer described above refers to the blending of each material (component) for producing the geopolymer. That is, the above-mentioned H 2 O: 15 to 60 wt% does not include H 2 O generated by polycondensation when the geopolymer is generated (solidified).
In addition, when mixing geopolymer and radioactive waste (for example, a clad (metal oxide particles mainly composed of iron oxide) described later) (in the mixing step), H 2 O is added and finally The H 2 O content is preferably 12 to 60 wt%. The final H 2 O content (wt%) is the ratio (wt%) of H 2 O (before solidification proceeds) in the slurry after thoroughly mixing the geopolymer and radioactive waste. That is. Note that the addition of H 2 O is not always necessary. The final H 2 O content: 12 to 60 wt% does not include H 2 O generated by polycondensation when the geopolymer is produced (solidified).
The reason why the allowable ranges of H 2 O, SiO 2 , Na 2 O, and Al 2 O 3 which are main components of the geopolymer (geopolymer binder) are set as described above is as follows.
H 2 O is a component necessary for ensuring sufficient fluidity when the geopolymer and the radioactive waste are mixed. That is, H 2 O is a component necessary for dissolving sodium silicate into water glass and suspending alumina and radioactive waste in the water glass. H 2 O is also generated by polycondensation when the geopolymer is generated (solidified). If the amount of H 2 O is insufficient, the fluidity decreases when the radioactive waste is suspended, resulting in uneven mixing. Therefore, in addition to the above-mentioned H 2 O content (weight% in geopolymer: 15 to 60%), H 2 O may be added (added) when mixing radioactive waste. In this case, in order to ensure fluidity, for example, it is preferable to add (add) H 2 O until the final content of H 2 O becomes 12 wt% or more. In addition, when fluidity | liquidity is low, the energy required for uniform mixing will become large. On the other hand, when H 2 O becomes excessive, the drying time becomes longer when water is removed by forced drying by heating (more heating energy is required). Therefore, the upper limit of the final H 2 O content is 60 wt%. Considering these, H 2 O as the composition of the geopolymer binder is 15 to 60 wt%, and the H 2 O content at the time of mixing the radioactive waste is 12 to 60 wt%.
SiO 2 is a basic component for forming a geopolymer by a Si—O—Al bond to form a solidified body. Therefore, with respect to SiO 2, it is set to 15 to 40 wt% as a ratio comprising the majority of the total components other than H 2 O.
Na 2 O is a compound that makes SiO 2 water-soluble, and coexists with SiO 2 as water glass (Na 2 O · nSiO 2 , n = 2 to 4), which is a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium silicate. Therefore, Na 2 O is set to 10 to 35 wt% in consideration of the ratio of SiO 2 .
Al 2 O 3 (alumina) is a component that serves as a binder that chemically bonds Si to each other by Si—O—Al bonds. Therefore, with respect to Al 2 O 3, and a 5 to 20 wt%.
(Radioactive waste)
A typical radioactive waste is metal oxide particles (cladding) mainly composed of iron oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ). Note that the radioactive waste to be treated is not limited to this, but is a residue of thermal decomposition treatment of ion exchange resin, powder or granular materials such as radioactive metal chips, lump such as plates and tubes, It may be liquid.
(Differential thermal analysis)
FIG. 1 shows the results of differential thermal analysis of a slurry (mixture) of geopolymer and simulated waste (iron oxide). The unit of% on the vertical axis of the graph shown in FIG. 1 is% by weight.
As shown in FIG. 1, the weight change of the differential thermal analysis of this slurry (mixture) is divided into three stages. That is, most of the water in the slurry is evaporated in the first stage, the remaining water is gradually removed in the second stage, and almost no weight change is observed in the third stage.
Such a change in weight due to evaporation of moisture corresponds to a change in strength from the slurry to the solidified body as follows. In the first stage, as the polycondensation reaction of the geopolymer proceeds, most of the water generated by the polycondensation reaction is removed and the slurry viscosity increases. The second stage is an intermediate stage in which after the majority of the water is removed, the solid body is changed into a solid body having a high strength with shrinkage. In the third stage, even the water remaining in the voids of the generated solidified body is removed from the solidified body to obtain a solidified body having a high strength and a low water content.
Here, if the slurry is first heated at a high temperature of about 300 ° C. or higher, the polycondensation reaction proceeds only at the outer periphery of the slurry. Therefore, the outer peripheral portion (surface) is hard and dense, while a large amount of moisture remains inside. As a result, the vapor pressure of internal water becomes high, and explosion may occur before the solidified body is produced. Even if explosion does not occur, it becomes a solidified body with low strength. Therefore, in order to increase the strength of the solidified body, it is necessary to sufficiently advance the polycondensation reaction of the geopolymer from the surface to the inside (center portion).
(Example)
With the composition shown in Table 1, a mixture (slurry) of geopolymer and clad (metal oxide particles mainly composed of iron oxide, simulated radioactive waste) is made at room temperature, and this mixture is heated under the following heating conditions. Thus, a solidified body having a size of 400 mm × 400 mm × 100 mm was manufactured.
[Heating conditions]
Heating at 100 ° C. for 20 hours, then 150 ° C. for 24 hours (first heating step), and then heating at 300 ° C. for 24 hours (second heating step).
FIG. 2 is an enlarged photograph of a part of the manufactured (after heating) solidified body. FIG. 2 shows that the fibrous structure of the geopolymer is well developed in the void portion of the solidified body.
The water content of the produced solidified body was examined. The water content was calculated from the weight loss when the produced solidified body was heated to 950 ° C. As a result of collecting 9 samples from the solidified body and measuring each sample for measuring the moisture content, the moisture content was 0.39 to 0.46 wt%. That is, it was a solidified body having a low water content.
Moreover, the uniaxial compressive strength of this solidified body was measured. The uniaxial compressive strength was 13 to 46 MN / m 2 (133 to 469 kg / cm 2 ). That is, it was a high strength solidified body. FIG. 3 is a photograph showing the whole solidified body after heating.
As a comparative example, a mixture (slurry) of a geopolymer and a clad was prepared at room temperature with the same composition as shown in Table 1, and this mixture was heated at 600 ° C. As a result, as shown in FIG. 4, the solidified body exploded during heating and was broken into small pieces. This explosion occurred several times when the internal temperature of the solidified body was in the range of 315 to 350 ° C.
(Action / Effect)
As described above, in the method for producing a solidified radioactive waste according to the present invention, the mixing step of mixing the geopolymer and the radioactive waste, and heating the obtained mixture at a temperature of 100 ° C. or higher and 150 ° C. or lower. A first heating step in which the mixture is solidified while removing moisture in the step, and then a second heating step in which the mixture is further heated at a temperature of 300 ° C. to 400 ° C. to further remove moisture from the mixture. And a solidified body manufacturing method.
According to this manufacturing method, after the mixing step, first, the mixture (slurry) is heated at a temperature of 100 ° C. or higher and 150 ° C. or lower until almost all of the water inside is removed by evaporation. Only the outer peripheral portion (surface) can be prevented from becoming hard and dense. In other words, the slurry viscosity can be increased as a whole from the outer peripheral portion (surface) toward the central portion. Thereby, the explosion and strength reduction of the solidified body can be suppressed. That is, it can be finally made into a high-strength solidified body. Further, the remaining moisture can be removed by subsequent heating at a temperature of 300 ° C. or higher and 400 ° C. or lower. That is, it can be set as a solid body with a low water content.
Here, the first heating step is a step of heating the mixture at a first temperature (for example, 100 ° C.) and then heating the mixture at a second temperature (for example, 150 ° C.) higher than the first temperature. It is preferable. Thus, in the first heating process in which heating is performed at a temperature of 100 ° C. or higher and 150 ° C. or lower, first, heating is performed at a first temperature (for example, 100 ° C.), and then a second temperature higher than the first temperature ( For example, heating is performed at 150 ° C.), which is a two-stage heating in which the heating temperature is higher than the previous temperature, so that only the outer peripheral portion (surface) of the mixture (slurry) is hard and dense due to the polycondensation reaction. It is possible to prevent the situation from becoming.
Moreover, it is preferable that the heating time of the mixture in the said 1st heating process is 12 hours or more and 48 hours or less, and the heating time of the mixture in the said 2nd heating process is 12 hours or more and 24 hours or less. This is because sufficient heating time is provided in each heating step, and a solidified radioactive waste having higher strength and lower water content can be obtained.
Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made as long as they are described in the claims. .
