Description
The present invention relates to a seawater electrolysis system including a seawater electrolysis apparatus that generates hypochlorous acid by electrolyzing seawater, and a seawater electrolysis method.
Conventionally, in thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, seawater desalination plants, chemical plants, etc. that use a large amount of seawater, the algae and shellfish that are in contact with seawater such as intakes, piping, condensers, and various coolers Adherence breeding is a big problem.
In order to solve this problem, there is a seawater electrolyzer that generates hypochlorous acid by electrolyzing natural seawater, and suppresses the adhesion of marine organisms by injecting the hypochlorous acid into a water inlet. It has been proposed (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
That is, this seawater electrolysis apparatus has a structure in which an anode and a cathode as electrodes are arranged in an electrolytic cell main body having a casing shape, and seawater is distributed in the electrolytic cell main body. . Since chloride ions and hydroxide ions exist in sea water, when current is passed between the anode and the cathode, chlorine is generated at the anode and sodium hydroxide is generated at the cathode. And hypochlorous acid which has the adhesion suppression effect of a marine organism is produced | generated by chlorine and sodium hydroxide reacting.
Here, as the electrode, particularly the anode, disposed in the electrolytic cell of the seawater electrolysis apparatus, generally, a titanium substrate is coated with a composite metal mainly composed of platinum, that is, a platinum-based coating material. (For example, refer to Patent Document 2).
There is also known a seawater electrolyzer that uses concentrated water having a high salt concentration discharged from a seawater concentrator such as a seawater desalination apparatus as treated water. This seawater electrolyzer reduces the power consumption by increasing the concentration of hypochlorous acid in the electrolyzed water produced by electrolyzing the concentrated water, improving the efficiency and miniaturization of the seawater electrolyzer (For example, see Patent Document 3).
By the way, when introducing seawater concentrated water into a seawater electrolyzer to generate hypochlorous acid, the efficiency of hypochlorous acid generation is increased by increasing the current density on the electrode surface according to the concentration of chloride ions. It is possible to do. However, as the current density increases, the amount of oxygen generated in the vicinity of the anode and the amount of scale generated in the vicinity of the cathode also increase. Therefore, in an electrode using a platinum-based coating material, the current density on the electrode surface cannot be increased. For example, it has been common technical knowledge to suppress the maximum value of the current density to about 15 A / dm 2 .
Since it is necessary to suppress the current density of electrolysis in this way, in order to generate sufficient hypochlorous acid from the concentrated water of seawater, it is necessary to arrange a large number of electrodes, which increases the production cost and increases the size of the device. Has been invited.
The present invention has been made in view of such problems, and it is possible to reduce the electrode area by increasing the amount of hypochlorous acid generated per unit area of the electrode using seawater concentrated water. An object of the present invention is to provide a seawater electrolysis system and a seawater electrolysis method.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides the following means.
That is, the seawater electrolysis system according to the present invention includes a seawater electrolysis apparatus that electrolyzes seawater circulated in an electrolytic cell main body in which an anode and a cathode are housed as electrodes by an electric current passed between the anode and the cathode. The anode is formed by coating titanium with a coating material containing iridium oxide, and is provided with a concentrating means for increasing the concentration of chloride ions contained in the seawater in the previous stage of the seawater electrolysis apparatus. To do.
Further, the seawater electrolysis method according to the present invention is a seawater electrolysis method in which seawater circulated in an electrolytic cell main body in which an anode and a cathode are housed as electrodes is electrolyzed by a current passed between the anode and the cathode. Titanium coated with a coating material containing iridium oxide is used as the anode, and the concentration of chloride ions contained in the seawater is increased before the seawater is distributed to the electrolytic cell.
In the seawater electrolysis system having such characteristics, concentrated water having increased chloride ion concentration and electrical conductivity is introduced into the seawater electrolysis apparatus. Furthermore, since iridium oxide is contained in the coating material of the anode, the current density on the electrode surface can be set high, and the concentration of hypochlorous acid contained in the generated electrolytically treated water can be increased. That is, by increasing the amount of hypochlorous acid generated per unit area of the electrode, the electrode area can be reduced and the apparatus can be made compact.
Moreover, in the seawater electrolysis system according to the present invention, the seawater electrolysis apparatus energizes a current between the anode and the cathode so that a current density on the electrode surface is in a range of 20 A / dm 2 to 60 A / dm 2. It is preferable to provide a power supply device.
In the seawater electrolysis system having such characteristics, the current density on the electrode surface is set to 20 A / dm 2 or more, which is larger than the conventional 15 A / dm 2, so that the hydrogen gas generated at the cathode accompanying electrolysis is reduced. The amount increases compared to the conventional one. Since this large amount of hydrogen gas produces an electrode cleaning effect, it is possible to prevent the manganese scale from adhering to the anode and the scales such as calcium and magnesium from adhering to the cathode. Further, although the amount of oxygen generated in the vicinity of the anode increases, iridium oxide has sufficient durability against oxygen, so that the electrode can be prevented from being consumed by the oxygen.
When the current density is too large, for example, exceeding 60 A / dm 2 , the amount of scale generated at the anode and the cathode exceeds the effective range of the hydrogen cleaning effect. On the other hand, in the present invention, since the upper limit of the current density is 60 A / dm 2 , the cleaning effect can be effectively expressed by hydrogen, and scale adhesion at the anode and the cathode can be effectively prevented. It becomes.
Further, the power supply device, as the current density of the electrode surface is in the range of 20A / dm 2 ~50A / dm 2 , it is preferable to energizing a current between the anode and the cathode.
Thereby, the cleaning effect by hydrogen gas can be expressed more effectively, and scale adhesion at the anode and the cathode can be effectively prevented.
Moreover, it is preferable that a hydrogen separation means is provided downstream of the seawater electrolysis apparatus, and the hydrogen gas generated at the cathode is separated by the hydrogen separation means.
This can prevent hydrogen gas from damaging the subsequent device.
Moreover, it is preferable to provide the circulation flow path which mixes the seawater after the electrolysis flowing out from the outlet of the electrolytic cell main body with the seawater before flowing in from the inlet of the electrolytic cell main body.
The higher the current density, the more concerned the scale adheres to the electrode surface. Can be prevented.
Furthermore, in the seawater electrolysis system according to the present invention, an oxide of tantalum may be added to the coating material.
By adding tantalum having high durability against oxygen to the coating material, durability against oxygen generated at the anode can be improved, and abnormal consumption of the electrode can be more effectively prevented.
Further, in the seawater electrolysis system according to the present invention, the electrode includes a plurality of bipolar electrode plates in which a portion on one side of the circulation direction of the seawater is the anode and a portion on the other side is the cathode. A plurality of electrode groups in which these bipolar electrode plates are arranged at intervals in the flow direction are arranged in parallel to each other, and the bipolar electrode plates of the electrode groups adjacent to each other in parallel are It is preferable that the anode and the cathode are arranged to face each other.
Thus, the apparatus itself can be made compact by collectively arranging the bipolar electrode plates having the anode and the cathode.
Moreover, since each bipolar electrode plate is arrange | positioned along the distribution direction of seawater, distribution of seawater is not prevented. Thereby, since the flow velocity of seawater can be maintained high, the prevention effect of scale adhesion to the electrode by the seawater can be effectively obtained.
Furthermore, since the anode and cathode of the electrode groups adjacent to each other in parallel face each other, the electrolysis is efficiently performed on the seawater flowing between the electrodes by energizing between the anode and cathode. It becomes possible.
Moreover, in the seawater electrolysis system of the present invention, the interval between the bipolar electrode plates adjacent to each other in the flow direction in each electrode group is set to 8 times or more than the interval between the electrode groups adjacent in parallel to each other. It is preferable.
When the distance between the two bipolar electrode plates adjacent to each other in the flow direction is small, a current flowing between the two bipolar electrode plates, that is, a stray current having a small contribution to electrolysis is generated. This stray current becomes more prominent as the current density on the electrode surface increases. On the other hand, by optimizing the interval between the two bipolar electrode plates adjacent to each other in the flow direction as described above, generation of the stray current can be suppressed and deterioration of seawater electrolysis efficiency can be prevented.

Moreover, it is preferable that tantalum is added to the iridium oxide-based coating material. Further, the iridium oxide-based coating material preferably does not contain platinum.

In the case of electrodes coated with a platinum-based composite metal (platinum-based coating material) that has been used in the past, the amount of oxygen and scale that increase electrode consumption increases as the current density increases. The maximum value of the current density is set to about 15 A / dm 2 . In contrast, in the present embodiment, conventionally current density is high 20A / dm 2 ~60A / dm 2 , preferably in the carrying out the electrolysis in the range of 20A / dm 2 ~50A / dm 2 .

Next, the operation of the
Part of the seawater W flowing through the intake water channel 1 is introduced into the

Thus, the concentrated water C flowing through the electrolytic cell
Specifically, when the current circulated from the constant
As described above, the current supplied to the concentrated water C has a constant current density on the surface of the
2H2O + 2e → 2OH− + H2 …(2)
As described above, the concentrated water C is electrolyzed by the current flowing through the concentrated water between the
That is, in the anode A, as shown in the following formula (1), the electrons e are taken from the chloride ions in the concentrated water C, oxidation occurs, and chlorine is generated.
2Cl − → Cl 2 + 2e (1)
On the other hand, at the cathode K, as shown in the following formula (2), electrons are given to the water in the concentrated water C to cause reduction, and hydroxide ions and hydrogen gas are generated.
2H 2 O + 2e → 2OH − + H 2 (2)
2Na+ + 2OH− → 2NaOH …(3)
In addition, as shown in the following formula (3), the hydroxide ions generated at the cathode K react with sodium ions in the concentrated water to generate sodium hydroxide.
2Na + + 2OH − → 2NaOH (3)
Cl2 + 2NaOH → NaClO + NaCl + H2O …(4)
Furthermore, as shown in the formula (4), sodium hydroxide and chlorine react to produce hypochlorous acid, sodium chloride, and water.
Cl 2 + 2NaOH → NaClO + NaCl + H 2 O (4)
Thus, based on the electrolysis of the concentrated water C, hypochlorous acid having an inhibitory effect on the adhesion of marine products is generated.
The concentration of hypochlorous acid is preferably 2,500 to 5,000 ppm because the chloride ion concentration of concentrated water C is increased to 30,000 to 40,000 mg / l.

When the electrolyzed water E temporarily stored in the storage tank 5 is introduced into the
The electrolytically treated water E flowing through the
Here, the total amount of hypochlorous acid produced is approximately proportional to the total amount of current supplied from the

In addition, by providing the circulation unit 7, scale components such as manganese, magnesium, and calcium generated during electrolysis are introduced into the

Further, when a tantalum oxide is added to the iridium oxide-based coating material covering the anode A, the tantalum exhibits high durability against oxygen. Abnormal consumption can be more effectively prevented.
The cost can be reduced by not including platinum in the iridium oxide-based coating material.

Examples will be described below.
<Chlorine generation efficiency measurement test>
A test was conducted to investigate the relationship between the current density on the electrode surface and the chlorine generation efficiency when electrolyzing seawater W and concentrated water C.
An anode plate and a cathode plate each having a plate shape with an electrode area of 50 × 50 mm were prepared and arranged to face each other with an interval of 5 mm. As the anode plate, a titanium substrate coated with a coating material containing 50% or more of iridium oxide (IrO 2 ) by mass ratio was used. As the cathode plate, a titanium substrate not coated with a coating material was used.
The chloride ion concentration of the seawater W was 20,000 mg / l, and the chloride ion concentration of the concentrated water C was 30,000 to 40,000 mg / l.
These anode plate and cathode plate are immersed in seawater W and concentrated water C, and the seawater W and concentrated water C are circulated at a flow rate of 250 ml / min, and electrolysis is performed by energizing between the anode plate and the cathode plate. It was. And the chlorine generation efficiency in each current density was measured.
The chlorine generation efficiency means the ratio of the actually generated chlorine amount to the theoretically generated chlorine amount based on the current density of the flowing current.
The measurement result of this chlorine generation efficiency is shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 6, when both the seawater W and the concentrated water C have a current density of less than 20 A / dm 2 , the chlorine generation efficiency increases as the current density increases.
If seawater W without concentration, chlorine generation efficiency during the current density is 20A / dm 2 ~30A /
In addition, in the case where the current density, which was a common technical knowledge in an electrode using a coating material containing platinum, was 15 A / dm 2 , the chlorine generation efficiency was 93%.
From this, even in the case of seawater W, in an electrode using a coating material containing iridium oxide, high chlorine generation efficiency is obtained by setting the current density in the range of 20 A / dm 2 to 30 A / dm 2. I found out that This is considered to be due to the fact that the amount of generated hydrogen gas is increased, and the effect of scale cleaning of the anode plate and the cathode plate by the hydrogen gas is obtained.
On the other hand, in the case of concentrated water C, the chlorine generation efficiency is constant when the current density is 20 A / dm 2 to 50 A / dm 2 , and the chlorine generation efficiency is 93% when the current density is 60 A / dm 2. High efficiency was maintained.
From this, in the case of concentrated water C, it can be seen that a high chlorine generation efficiency can be obtained by setting the current density in the range of 20 A / dm 2 to 60 A / dm 2 , compared with the case without concentration. It was found that the current density can be increased.
As described above, by introducing concentrated water C into the
In addition, since the electrode is gradually consumed when electrolysis is continued for a long time, it is considered that the curve of FIG. 6 showing the measurement result becomes steeper. Therefore, it can be inferred that setting the current density in the above range is even more effective, particularly after the electrodes are consumed.
<Electrolytic life test results>
A test was conducted to investigate the relationship between the current density during electrolysis of seawater W and the amount of catalyst retained.
Similarly to the chlorine generation efficiency measurement test, a plate-like anode plate and cathode plate having an electrode area of 50 × 50 mm were prepared and arranged to face each other with an interval of 5 mm. As an anode plate, there are two types: one in which a coating material containing 50% or more of iridium oxide (IrO 2 ) is coated on a titanium substrate, and one in which a coating material containing platinum (Pt) is coated on a titanium substrate. Using. As the cathode plate, a titanium substrate not coated with a coating material was used.
The anode plate and the cathode plate were respectively immersed in seawater W, the seawater W was circulated at a flow rate of 250 ml / min, and electrolysis was performed by energizing between the anode plate and the cathode plate. The amount of catalyst retained at each current density was measured over time.
The catalyst retention amount means the catalyst amount of the electrode retained after the electrolysis, and the electrode is consumed as much as the catalyst retention amount decreases with time. The measurement result of this catalyst retention amount is shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 7, when a coating material containing platinum is used as the anode plate (Pt / Ti), the catalyst retention amount gradually decreases with time, and in particular, the catalyst retention increases as the current density increases. It was found that the decrease in the amount became remarkable.
On the other hand, when a coating material containing iridium oxide was used as the anode plate (IrO 2 ), the catalyst retention amount did not decrease over time.
Thus, it was found that the anode plate using the coating material containing iridium oxide has higher electrode durability than the anode plate using the coating material containing platinum.
