Description
The present invention relates to a wired circuit board and a manufacturing method thereof, and more particularly, to a wired circuit board suitably used for a suspension board with circuit mounted on a hard disk drive and a manufacturing method thereof.
The suspension board with circuit is obtained by sequentially laminating a base insulating layer, a conductor layer having a terminal portion, and a cover insulating layer on a metal supporting layer, and then externally processing the metal supporting layer.
Such a suspension board with circuit is usually mounted on a hard disk drive after positioning and mounting a magnetic head with reference to a reference hole formed in a metal support layer.
On the other hand, in recent years, the terminals of the magnetic head and the terminals of the suspension board with circuit have been made finer pitch, and therefore it is necessary to improve the connection reliability thereof. Therefore, it is necessary to form the reference hole with high accuracy and improve the positioning accuracy of the magnetic head.
For this reason, for example, a method is proposed in which a reference hole is formed by attaching a material that is harder to etch than stainless steel, such as zirconium or palladium, to the surface of a suspension board made of stainless steel, and then etching the suspension board. (For example, refer to Patent Document 1). In the etching process of
However, in the conventional etching process including
Since the etching of the
However, in such etching, the etching solution may enter the boundary between the front-side etching resist 52 and the
An object of the present invention is to provide a printed circuit board in which a reference hole is uniformly formed with excellent accuracy and a method for manufacturing the same.
In order to achieve the above object, a wired circuit board according to the present invention comprises a metal support layer, an insulating layer formed on the metal support layer, and a conductor layer formed on the insulating layer. In the substrate, a reference hole for positioning is formed in the metal support layer, and a step portion is formed so as to surround the reference hole.
In the wired circuit board of the present invention, it is preferable that the step portion is formed as the same layer as the insulating layer and / or the conductor layer.
In the wired circuit board of the present invention, it is preferable that a distance between the step portion and the reference hole is 100 μm or less.
In the wired circuit board of the present invention, it is preferable that the thickness of the step portion is 5 μm or more.
In the wired circuit board of the present invention, it is preferable that the insulating layer is made of polyimide.
In the wired circuit board of the present invention, it is preferable that the conductor layer is made of copper.
The wired circuit board of the present invention is preferably used as a suspension board with circuit.
Further, the method for manufacturing a wired circuit board according to the present invention includes a step of forming a metal support layer, an insulating layer formed on the metal support layer, and a conductor layer formed on the insulating layer, and positioning. Forming a step portion so as to surround a removal region for opening a reference hole used in the step, and a reference hole forming step of forming the reference hole by etching the removal region in the metal support layer And the reference hole forming step includes etching resist so as to cover the stepped portion on one side in the thickness direction of the metal support layer and on the other side in the thickness direction of the metal support layer. A step of forming so as to be exposed, a step of removing the removal region exposed from the etching resist by etching, and a step of removing the etching resist It is characterized.
According to the wired circuit board of the present invention, the step portion is formed so as to surround the reference hole.
Therefore, in the method for manufacturing a printed circuit board according to the present invention, the stepped portion described above is formed, and then, in the reference hole forming step, the stepped portion is covered with the etching resist on one side in the thickness direction of the metal support layer. By forming, the contact area between the etching resist around the reference hole, the metal support layer, and the stepped portion can be secured wider, and the adhesion between them can be improved.
Further, since the stepped portion can secure the hook-like locking of the etching resist, the adhesion between the stepped portion and the etching resist can be further improved.
Therefore, even if the etching resist is formed on the other side in the thickness direction of the metal support layer so that the removal region is exposed, and then the removal region is removed by etching, the etching solution is not removed from the etching resist and the metal around the removal region. It is possible to prevent the etching resist from peeling from the metal support layer by preventing entry into the boundary with the support layer.
Therefore, it is possible to prevent the minimum diameter of the reference hole from expanding due to the penetration of the etching solution, and to form the reference hole with excellent accuracy and uniformity.
As a result, connection reliability can be improved by improving positioning accuracy.

Example 1
First, a metal support layer made of stainless steel having a rectangular flat plate shape in plan view was prepared (see FIG. 5A). The thickness of the metal support layer was 20 μm.
Next, a varnish of a photosensitive polyamic acid resin was applied to the entire upper surface of the metal support substrate, then heated and dried, exposed through a photomask, and developed with an alkaline developer. Thereafter, the base insulating layer and the step base layer made of polyimide were formed in the above-described pattern by heating and curing (see FIG. 5B).
The thickness of the base insulating layer and the step base layer was 10 μm. The step base layer had a width of 300 μm and an inner diameter (d3) of 840 μm.
Next, a chromium thin film and a copper thin film were sequentially formed on the metal supporting substrate, the base insulating layer, and the step base layer by a sputtering method, thereby forming a metal thin film. Thereafter, a plating resist was formed from a dry film resist on the surface of the metal thin film with a reverse pattern of the conductor layer and the stepped conductor layer. And after forming a conductor layer and a level | step difference conductor layer simultaneously by electrolytic copper plating, the plating resist was peeled and the metal thin film exposed from a conductor pattern and a level | step difference conductor layer was formed by etching (refer FIG.5 (c)).
The thickness of the conductor layer and the step conductor layer was 12 μm. The width of the step conductor layer was 215 μm, and the distance (L2) between the inner peripheral surface of the step conductor layer and the inner peripheral surface of the step base layer was 30 μm.
Next, a varnish of photosensitive polyamic acid resin is applied to the entire upper surface of the metal support layer including the base insulating layer, the step base layer, the conductor layer, and the step conductor layer, and then heated, dried, and exposed through a photomask. And developed with an alkaline developer. Thereafter, the cover insulating layer and the step cover layer made of polyimide were formed in the above-described pattern by heating and curing (see FIG. 5D).
The cover insulating layer and the step cover layer had a thickness of 5 μm. The width of the step cover layer was 290 μm, and the distance (L3) between the inner peripheral surface of the step cover layer and the inner peripheral surface of the step base layer was 5 μm.
As a result, a first step portion and a second step portion having a thickness of 27 μm, which were composed of a step base layer, a step conductor layer, and a step cover layer, were formed simultaneously. The first step portion and the second step portion have a two-step shape and are formed with the same dimensions.
Next, the slit and the gap groove were formed by etching, and the first reference hole and the second reference hole were formed by etching (see FIGS. 6E to 6H).
That is, first, a dry film resist is laminated on the entire upper surface of the metal support layer including the base insulating layer, the conductor layer and the cover insulating layer, and the first step portion and the second step portion, and then exposed and developed. Then, a first etching resist was formed with a pattern covering them (see FIG. 6E). The thickness of the first etching resist was 40 μm.
Next, after a dry film resist is laminated on the entire lower surface of the metal support layer, exposure and development are performed through a photomask, so that the second etching is performed in a pattern in which the first opening and the second opening are formed. A resist was formed (see FIG. 6F).
The inner diameter (d4) of the first opening was 770 μm, and the distance (L4) between the inner peripheral surface of the first opening and the inner peripheral surface of the step base layer was 20 μm. The thickness of the second etching resist was 25 μm.
Thereafter, the metal support layer exposed from the second opening of the second etching resist is removed by etching, and the first removal region and the second removal region exposed from the first opening of the second etching resist are removed by etching. (See FIG. 6 (g)).
In the etching, an immersion method using an aqueous ferric chloride solution as an etching solution was performed.
Thus, a slit was formed to form a gimbal, and a gap groove was formed to form a suspension board with circuit including a metal support board, a support frame, and a joint portion from the metal support layer. At the same time, the first reference hole was formed in the metal support layer in the suspension board with circuit, and the second reference hole was formed in the support frame.
The first reference hole and the second reference hole are formed in a trapezoidal shape that is gradually narrowed and inclined toward the upper side, and the minimum diameter (D), that is, the inner diameter (d1) of the upper end portion is about It was 800 μm. Note that the inner diameter (d2) of the lower ends of the first reference hole and the second reference hole was 820 μm.
The distance (L1) between the inner peripheral surface of the step base layer and the inner peripheral surface (upper edge) of the first reference hole was 50 μm.
Thereafter, the first etching resist and the second etching resist were removed by peeling (see FIG. 6H).
Thereby, a suspension board assembly sheet with circuit was obtained (see FIGS. 1 and 2).
