Description
The present invention relates to an image display device.
In recent years, with increasing demand for miniaturization of projectors, projectors using laser light sources have been developed with the increase in output of semiconductor lasers and the appearance of blue semiconductor lasers. This type of projector can be used as a next-generation display device because the wavelength range of the light source is narrow, so the color reproduction range can be sufficiently widened, and downsizing and reduction of components are possible. It has sex.
However, in a projector using a laser light source, when displaying with image light, light spots and dark spots are distributed in a striped pattern or a spotted pattern due to light interference caused by a scatterer such as a screen. (Or “speckle”) may occur.
Scintillation causes an adverse effect such as giving a viewer a glare and giving an uncomfortable feeling when viewing an image. In particular, since laser light is highly coherent, scintillation is likely to occur. However, even in the case of a lamp light source, in recent years, the coherence has been increased by shortening the arc, and a technique for removing scintillation is important. Thus, techniques for reducing speckle noise have been proposed (see, for example,
The optical scanning image display device described in
However, in the optical scanning image display device described in
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide an image display device capable of reliably reducing speckle noise with a simple configuration and simple control. And
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides the following means.
An image display device according to the present invention includes a light source that emits laser light, a scanning unit that two-dimensionally scans the laser light emitted from the light source toward a projection surface, and a space between the light source and the scanning unit. By changing the optical path of the laser light emitted from the light source by a minute distance in time, the position of the laser light incident on the predetermined irradiation area on the irradiated surface is temporally changed. And an optical path changing means for changing.
In the image display device according to the present invention, the optical path of the laser light emitted from the light source is changed by the optical path changing means and is incident on the scanning means. Thereby, the irradiation position which irradiates the predetermined irradiation area | region on the to-be-projected surface of the laser beam scanned by a scanning means changes only a minute distance. Thereby, the speckle pattern of the laser beam which irradiates a predetermined irradiation area changes temporally. As a result, since the speckle pattern is integrated and averaged within the afterimage time of the human eye, speckle noise in the image projected on the projection surface can be suppressed. Therefore, the viewer can view the image satisfactorily.
That is, the light emission timing and the scanning timing are not changed as in the prior art, but the irradiation position is changed by providing the optical path changing means on the optical path between the light source and the scanning means, so that the entire basic configuration remains unchanged. Therefore, speckle noise can be surely suppressed by a simple configuration and simple control.
Note that the “predetermined irradiation area” referred to here is an irradiation area on the projection surface corresponding to one pixel which is the minimum unit constituting the projection image.
In the image display device of the present invention, it is preferable that the optical path changing means is an acousto-optic element.
In the image display device according to the present invention, since the swing angle of the laser light emitted from the light source is temporally changed by the acousto-optic element, the irradiation position on the projection surface changes. By using the acoustooptic device, the swing angle of the laser light emitted from the light source can be increased, and speckle noise can be reliably suppressed.
In the image display device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the optical path changing unit is an electro-optical element.
In the image display apparatus according to the present invention, since the swing angle of the laser light emitted from the light source is temporally changed by the electro-optical element, the irradiation position on the projection surface changes. By using the electro-optical element, the laser light emitted from the light source can be shaken at high speed, and speckle noise can be reliably suppressed.
Further, in the image display device of the present invention, the optical path changing means changes the optical path of the laser light emitted from the light source in one direction of the projection surface by a minute distance, and It is preferable that the apparatus further comprises other direction optical path changing means for changing the optical path of the laser light emitted from the one direction optical path changing means in a different direction substantially perpendicular to the one direction by a minute distance in time.
In the image display device according to the present invention, the irradiation position on the projection surface of the light emitted from the light source is changed by a small distance in time in one direction of the projection surface by the one-way optical path changing means, and the other direction By the optical path changing means, it is changed by a minute distance in the other direction of the projection surface. Therefore, the speckle pattern projected onto a predetermined irradiation area (one pixel) on the projection surface changes with time. As a result, since the plural types of speckle patterns are integrated and averaged, it is possible to more reliably suppress speckle noise in the image projected on the projection surface.
In the image display device of the present invention, it is preferable that the amount of change in the irradiation position of the laser beam on the projection surface is 1/10 or less of the size of a predetermined irradiation area on the projection surface.
In the image display device according to the present invention, the change amount of the irradiation position of the laser beam on the projection surface is 1 / of the size of a predetermined irradiation area (one pixel) on the projection surface based on the inventor's experience value. Since it is 10 or less, it is possible to reliably suppress speckle noise and form a clear image on the projection surface without causing image blur.
In the image display device of the present invention, the optical path changing means may be configured so that the frequency at which the optical path of the laser light emitted from the light source changes and the frequency at which the scanning means scans the laser light are not synchronized. It is preferable to periodically change the optical path of light.
Here, if the frequency at which the optical path of the laser beam by the optical path changing means changes and the frequency at which the scanning means scans the laser light are synchronized, the same speckle pattern is integrated and averaged. Can not be reduced.
Therefore, in the image display device according to the present invention, the optical path changing means changes the frequency at which the optical path of the laser light changes and the frequency at which the laser light is scanned by the scanning means so as not to synchronize, thereby Since different speckle patterns are temporally integrated in the predetermined irradiation area, speckle noise can be surely suppressed. Furthermore, since the optical path changing means periodically changes the optical path of the laser light, it is easy to control the acousto-optic element over time, for example.
In the image display device of the present invention, it is preferable that the optical path changing unit changes the optical path of laser light emitted from the light source aperiodically.
In the image display apparatus according to the present invention, since the optical path changing means changes the optical path of the laser light aperiodically, the pattern in which the optical path of the laser light changes and the frequency at which the scanning means scans the laser light are ensured. It is possible to change so as not to synchronize. Therefore, speckle noise can be suppressed more reliably.
In the image display device of the present invention, the light source includes a red light source that emits red laser light, a green light source that emits green laser light, and a blue light source that emits blue laser light, and the optical path changing unit. Is arranged at least on the optical path of the green laser light emitted from the green light source, and the optical path of the green laser light emitted from the green light source is preferably changed by a minute distance in terms of time.
In the image display device according to the present invention, a bright image is displayed on the projection surface by changing the optical path of the green laser light that contributes most to the brightness of the image displayed on the projection surface by a minute distance. It is possible to display.
In the image display device of the present invention, the optical path changing means is provided on each optical path of the laser light emitted from the red light source, the green light source, and the blue light source, and the red light source, the green light source, It is preferable to change the optical paths of the red laser light, green laser light, and blue laser light emitted from the blue light source by a minute distance in terms of time.
In the image display device according to the present invention, the optical path of the red laser light, the green laser light, and the blue laser light emitted from the red light source, the green light source, and the blue light source is changed by a minute distance by the optical path changing means. Speckle noise can be reduced more effectively.
The image display device according to the present invention includes a light source that emits laser light, a scanning unit that scans the laser light emitted from the light source toward a projection surface, and the light source that is swung and emitted from the light source. It is preferable to include an optical path changing unit that changes the optical path of the laser beam to be changed by a minute distance in terms of time.
In the image display apparatus according to the present invention, the irradiation position of the predetermined irradiation area (one pixel) on the projection surface of the laser light emitted from the light source is timed by oscillating the light source by the optical path changing means. Therefore, the speckle pattern of the laser beam that irradiates a predetermined irradiation area of the projection surface changes with time. As a result, the speckle pattern is integrated and averaged within the afterimage time of the human eye, and speckle noise in the image projected on the projection surface is suppressed. Therefore, the viewer can view the image satisfactorily.
In other words, since the speckle noise is reduced by physically swinging the light source while maintaining the control of the emission timing of the laser light emitted from the light source, it is ensured by a simple configuration and simple control. In addition, speckle noise can be suppressed.

As shown in FIG. 1, the
As shown in FIG. 3, the
Further, the optical path of the laser light is periodically changed by the
As shown in FIG. 3, the

Here, the change of the irradiation position of the laser beam irradiated to each pixel P of the
Since the laser light emitted from the
In the present embodiment, the sizes of the laser spots S1 to S4 and S1a to S4a are smaller than the sizes of the pixels P1 to P4.

Further, although the optical path of the laser light that irradiates the pixel L1 is changed every frame, the timing of changing the optical path of the laser light may be two or more frames. Further, although the
The laser spots S1 to S4 and S1a to S4a are smaller than the pixels P1 to P4, but the laser spots S1 to S4 and S1a to S4a are smaller than the pixels P1 to P4. It can be the same or larger.
[Second Embodiment]
Next, a second embodiment according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. In the drawings of the respective embodiments described below, portions having the same configuration as those of the
The
FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing the entire image display apparatus of the present embodiment, and FIG. 6 is a plan view showing a change in the irradiation position of the laser beam on the screen.
As shown in FIG. 5, the

Further, as the optical path changing means for vibrating the laser beam in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction, both acousto-optic elements are used, but one or both may be electro-optic elements.

Next, a third embodiment according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.
The image display apparatus according to the present embodiment is different from the first embodiment in that an optical path changing unit is provided in each of the
FIG. 7 is a side view showing a light source of the image display apparatus of the present embodiment.
