図1は、本発明の一実施例に係る燃料電池100の外観構成を示す説明図である。本実施例の燃料電池100は、比較的小型で発電効率に優れる固体高分子型燃料電池である。燃料電池100は、複数の燃料電池セルCLと、エンドプレートEPと、テンションプレートTSと、インシュレータISと、ターミナルTMと、を備えている。複数の燃料電池セルCLは、インシュレータISおよびターミナルTMを挟んで、2枚のエンドプレートEPによって挟持される。すなわち、燃料電池100は、燃料電池セルCLが、複数個積層されたスタック構造である。また、燃料電池100は、テンションプレートTSがボルトBTによって各エンドプレートEPに結合され、各燃料電池セルCLを、各部材を積層する方向(以下では、積層方向とも呼ぶ)に所定の力で締結する構造となっている。なお、本実施例の燃料電池100では、酸化ガスとしては、空気を用い、燃料ガスとしては、水素を用いる。積層方向に直交する方向であって、燃料電池セルCLに沿った方向を面方向とも呼ぶ。

図4は、カソード12を説明するための図である。具体的には、図4(A)は、カソード12の一部を示した斜視図であり、図4(B)は、図4(A)のB−B断面を示す図である。カソード12は、カーボンプレート70と、カーボン71と、白金72と、フッ素系の電解質支柱73と、を備えている。なお、カソード12において、電解質支柱73は、フッ素系電解質に限らず、炭化水素系電解質で構成されていてもよい。
