Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an electrochemical capacitor used for various electronic devices, a backup power source, a regenerative power source, or a power storage for a hybrid vehicle or a fuel cell vehicle, and an electrochemical capacitor obtained thereby.
Conventionally, electric double layer capacitors have attracted attention and are used in many fields because of their high withstand voltage, large capacity, and high reliability of rapid charge / discharge. Such an electric double layer capacitor uses a polarizable electrode mainly composed of activated carbon for both the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and the withstand voltage of the electric double layer capacitor is 1.2 V when an aqueous electrolyte is used. When a system electrolyte is used, it is 2.5 to 3.3 V. Since the energy of the electric double layer capacitor is proportional to the square of the withstand voltage, the organic electrolyte with a higher withstand voltage has higher energy than the aqueous electrolyte, but even with an electric double layer capacitor using an organic electrolyte The energy density is 1/10 or less of a secondary battery such as a lead-acid battery, and further improvement of the energy density is required.
From such a background, an electrode mainly composed of activated carbon is used as a positive electrode, and an electrode in which lithium ions are previously occluded in a carbon material having a [002] plane spacing of 0.338 to 0.356 nm by X-ray diffraction is used. A secondary battery having an upper limit voltage of 3 V as a negative electrode has been proposed (Patent Document 1).
In addition, a secondary battery using a carbon material in which lithium ions are occluded in advance by a chemical method or an electrochemical method in a carbon material that can occlude and desorb lithium ions has been proposed (Patent Document 2).
Furthermore, a secondary battery with an upper limit voltage of 4 V has been proposed having a negative electrode in which a carbon material capable of inserting and extracting lithium ions is supported on a porous current collector that does not form an alloy with lithium (Patent Document 3).
In addition to the electric double layer capacitor, there is a lithium ion battery as a power source capable of charging / discharging a large current. The lithium ion battery has a feature of higher voltage and higher capacity than the electric double layer capacitor, but has a high resistance and is charged quickly. There is a problem that the life due to the discharge cycle is remarkably shorter than that of the electric double layer capacitor.
However, the secondary battery proposed for the purpose of improving the disadvantages of the conventional electric double layer capacitor has the advantages of high withstand voltage, large capacity, and rapid charge / discharge, but has a high resistance value. When used as a backup power source or regenerative power for a hybrid vehicle or a fuel cell vehicle, there is a problem that the total resistance value becomes too large to use because a large number are connected in series.
In addition, in the technology of occluding lithium ions in the negative electrode, in addition to problems such as confirmation of the amount of occlusion of lithium, potential monitoring of the positive and negative electrodes, how to maintain the sealing performance, etc. There is also a problem that it must be performed in a dry atmosphere, and there is a problem that it cannot be easily manufactured.
The present invention solves such a conventional problem, and easily provides an electrochemical capacitor that has a high withstand voltage, a large capacity, excellent reliability in a rapid charge / discharge cycle, and can realize low resistance. An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing an electrochemical capacitor that can be stably produced, and an electrochemical capacitor obtained thereby.
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention comprises a step of forming a polarizable electrode layer mainly composed of activated carbon on a current collector to produce a positive electrode connected with lead wires, and a carbon material mainly on the current collector. Forming a negative electrode in which a lead wire is formed by forming an electrode layer as described above, a step of manufacturing an element by winding the positive electrode and the negative electrode through a separator therebetween, and an organic system containing lithium ions A step of housing the metal case together with the electrolytic solution, and a step of sealing the metal case with a sealing rubber. When the element is housed in the metal case, lithium is previously disposed in the metal case. And after accommodating the element and sealing the metal case, the metal case and the negative electrode lead wire drawn from the element are electrically connected to occlude lithium ions in the electrode layer of the negative electrode constituting the element. by The electrode potential 0.13562V is obtained by the (vs. Li / Li +) of lower than so that.
In addition, as an electrochemical capacitor obtained by this manufacturing method, a positive electrode in which a polarizable electrode layer mainly composed of activated carbon is formed on a current collector and lead wires are connected, and a carbon material is formed on the current collector. An element formed by forming a main electrode layer and connecting a negative electrode to which a lead wire is connected, with a separator interposed therebetween, and a metal case containing the element together with an organic electrolyte containing lithium ions And a sealing member that seals the metal case, and a metal joining member that is electrically connected to the metal case is disposed on at least one end face of the element.
As described above, the method for manufacturing an electrochemical capacitor according to the present invention has a negative electrode constituting an element by arranging lithium in advance in a metal case and electrically connecting the metal case and the negative electrode lead wire after assembly. Since the lithium ion can be occluded in the electrode layer, an electrochemical capacitor capable of stably exhibiting excellent performance by a simple method can be provided. .
Moreover, when the capacity | capacitance of a negative electrode falls, it becomes possible to occlude lithium required for a negative electrode again by electrically connecting a metal case and a negative electrode lead wire.
In addition, by using the metal case as the third electrode, it becomes possible to measure the potential of the positive and negative electrodes individually, detecting the state such as whether the negative electrode shows a predetermined potential, and deterioration factors in the life test In addition to being able to be separated by positive and negative electrodes, it is not necessary to provide a third electrode separately, so that the sealing performance is not deteriorated.
In addition, the method of arranging lithium in the metal case in advance makes it possible to carry out the work of winding the element in the air, and the effects such as simplification of the manufacturing equipment can be obtained. It is.

(Embodiment 1)
Hereinafter, the first aspect of the present invention will be described with reference to the first embodiment.
FIG. 1 is a partially cutaway perspective view showing the structure of an electrochemical capacitor obtained by the method for producing an electrochemical capacitor according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention, and FIGS. 2 (a) and 2 (b) are the electrochemical capacitor. FIG. 1 is a conceptual diagram of a discharge state and a charge state shown to explain the principle of FIG. 1. In FIGS. 1 and 2, 1 is an element, and this element 1 is activated carbon on the front and back surfaces of a
7a and 7b are a pair of positive and negative lead wires connected to the two electrodes, respectively, and 8 is a stainless steel metal case containing the element 1 together with a driving electrolyte 9 (not shown). It is a sealing rubber that has a hole through which a pair of positive and
Further, as shown in FIG. 2, the electrochemical capacitor configured in this way is charged by the movement of lithium ions as electrolyte cations and BF 4 − as electrolyte anions contained in the driving electrolyte 9. In order to obtain a large capacity, the lithium ion in the driving electrolyte is not sufficient to obtain a large capacity. Therefore, as shown in the discharge state of FIG. It is necessary to occlude lithium ions in the electrode layer (hereinafter referred to as pre-doping), and specific embodiments will be described below mainly using such pre-doping. It is not limited to this.
First, a high-purity aluminum foil (Al: 99.99% or more) having a thickness of 30 μm was used as the positive electrode as the
Subsequently, a water-soluble binder solution in which a phenol resin activated carbon powder having an average particle diameter of 5 μm, carbon black having an average particle diameter of 0.05 μm and carboxymethylcellulose (hereinafter referred to as CMC) as a conductivity imparting agent is dissolved is 10: 2. : 1 by mixing at a weight ratio and sufficiently kneading with a kneader, and then adding methanol and water dispersion solvent little by little, and further kneading to prepare a paste having a predetermined viscosity. The
Next, as a negative electrode, a copper foil having a thickness of 15 μm was used as the current collector 4, and a
Next, the positive electrode and the negative electrode obtained in this way were made into one set, and the element 1 was obtained by winding with a separator interposed therebetween. Then, as shown in FIG. 3, the element 1 is inserted together with a driving electrolyte 9 (not shown) into a stainless
Next, a pair of positive and
Next, the electrochemical capacitor thus assembled was pre-doped using a
The results obtained by measuring the potential / capacitance / resistance characteristics of the negative electrode of the electrochemical capacitor manufactured according to the present embodiment are shown in Table 1 in comparison with a conventional product as a comparative example.
Here, the conventional product will be described. In an electrochemical device having a wound structure, generally, the negative electrode is wound so that it is outside the positive electrode, and lithium is attached to the outermost current collector of the negative electrode. After injecting the electrolytic solution, lithium was occluded in the electrode layer of the negative electrode as lithium ions. Therefore, lithium was arranged on the inner peripheral surface of the
As is clear from Table 1, the electrochemical capacitor according to the present embodiment has lithium disposed in advance on the inner bottom surface of the metal case 8 (the portion in contact with the bottom surface portion of the element 1), and the metal case after assembly. 8 and the negative
In addition, since the
Furthermore, since it took 1.93 days to make the potential of the negative electrode of the conventional product equivalent to that of the present embodiment, the manufacturing method according to the present embodiment involves the manufacture of an electrochemical capacitor. There is also a special effect that the time can be shortened.
In the present embodiment, an example in which the
The driving electrolyte may be an organic electrolyte containing lithium as a cation. For example, PF 6 − may be used as an anion. Furthermore, for example, in order to improve low-temperature characteristics, a solvent mixture mainly composed of propylene carbonate (PC) may be used instead of the solvent mainly composed of EC.
(Embodiment 2)
The invention according to the third, fourth, and sixth aspects of the present invention will be described below with reference to the second embodiment.
In the present embodiment, the pre-doping method of the electrochemical capacitor manufacturing method described in the first embodiment with reference to FIG. 3 is partially different, and other methods are different from those in the first embodiment. For the same reason, the same reference numerals are given to the same parts, and detailed description thereof is omitted, and only different parts will be described below with reference to the drawings.
5 (a) to 5 (c) are manufacturing process diagrams for explaining the manufacturing method of the electrochemical capacitor according to the second embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. This is a mesh member made of nickel (hereinafter referred to as Ni mesh) as a joining member provided for the purpose.
As shown in FIG. 5, a
With such a manufacturing method, it becomes possible to make
FIGS. 6A and 6B show examples using the
In the present embodiment, the example in which Ni meshes 13 and 14 are used as the bonding member provided to press-fit and hold
Furthermore, the electrochemical capacitor obtained by the method for manufacturing an electrochemical capacitor according to the present embodiment is subjected to the same pre-doping operation as that of the first embodiment, and then is bonded to the Ni mesh 13 (or 14) with the

(Embodiment 3)
Hereinafter, the invention described in the second to fourth aspects of the present invention will be described using the third embodiment.
