Description
The present invention relates to an underwater plasma sterilization method and an underwater plasma sterilization apparatus.
Underwater plasma is a discharge phenomenon that occurs in the liquid phase. For example, when a high voltage that rises sharply, that is, a pulse voltage, is applied to a sharp electrode such as a needle or wire placed in water, a streaky discharge that spreads radially from the tip of the electrode is obtained. This is an example of underwater plasma. At the tip of this discharge, various high energy density phenomena such as ultra-high electric fields, ultraviolet rays, shock waves, and generation of radicals occur. Utilizing these phenomena, it is possible to eliminate underwater microorganisms and decompose harmful organic compounds (see Patent Document 1). If low-temperature plasma can be used, it is highly efficient because it does not heat the target, and it is environmentally friendly because it does not use chemicals.
There are various discharge types of underwater plasma. When a grounded metal flat plate is placed on the tip of an electrode placed in water and the distance between the electrode and the flat plate is sufficiently large, the above described streamer discharge is a streak-like streamer spreading radially from the tip of the electrode as described above. For example,
However, when sterilization is performed by spark discharge, there is a problem that the electrodes are consumed quickly and the cost is high. Streamer discharge has a large contact area with water, but its energy is so weak that it does not cause a very strong phenomenon, and therefore has a problem of weak sterilization power.
In addition, the conventional spark streamer discharge (pulse streamer discharge) is performed in a state where the needle electrode and the flat plate electrode are opposed to each other, but there is a problem that the sterilization ability is not sufficient, and further spark streamer discharge ( Improvement of sterilization ability by pulse streamer discharge is required.
An object of the present invention is to provide an underwater plasma sterilization method and an underwater plasma sterilization apparatus capable of suppressing electrode consumption and improving the sterilization performance by spark streamer discharge.

FIG. 2 shows the result of the sterilization treatment in which spark streamer discharge was performed in Example 1. As shown in the figure, the initial viable count was 100,000, and the sterilization time was about 2 minutes. Moreover, it was confirmed that the voltage required for plasma generation was about 300 V. FIG. 3 shows the measurement results of voltage and current in Example 1. FIG. 4 shows the results of the sterilization treatment of Comparative Example 1.
In Comparative Example 1, the interelectrode distance, output pulse width, output pulse period, and output voltage were performed under the same conditions as in Example 1, but sterilization time was 3 minutes or longer. In Comparative Example 1, the voltage required for plasma generation was 1300 V (see FIG. 5).
In Comparative Example 2, the distance between the electrodes, the output pulse width, the output pulse period, and the output voltage were performed under the same conditions as in Example 1. However, the mesh electrode was perforated, and the discharge form was a streamer shape in the middle. The sterilization effect was not sustained (see FIG. 6). In Comparative Example 2, it was difficult to generate a stable discharge. The voltage required for plasma generation in Comparative Example 2 was 1300 V (see FIG. 7).
When Example 1 was compared with Comparative Examples 1 and 2, it was confirmed that the voltage required for discharging was greatly reduced, and in the case of mesh electrodes as in Example 1, the power supply capacity could be reduced.
In Example 2, by using a titanium mesh coated with TiO 2 , the sterilization efficiency was higher than that in Comparative Example 3 in which the distance between electrodes, the output pulse width, the output pulse period, and the output voltage were performed under the same conditions as in Example 1. (See FIG. 8). When compared with the D value (Desimal reduction time) representing the sterilization time, the treatment speed was improved three times. Moreover, in Example 2, it was able to sterilize completely by the process for 3 minutes or more.
FIG. 9 shows the relationship between the discharge time and the increase in the solution temperature in Example 2. After 3 minutes of discharge, the water temperature was approximately 45 ° C., and from this result, it was confirmed that Example 2 did not have a sterilization effect due to heat. Thus, in Example 2, it was shown that the titanium mesh of TiO 2 coating is effective in improving the sterilization efficiency.
